  1. Yes agree ACC is one of those options that if you haven't had before not an issue but once you have driven a car with ACC wouldn't be without it. Surprised not standard for you in Ireland, One of the factors that drew me to the Superb rather than Audi that charge a small fortune for something standard on many Skoda and VW cars.
  2. Hi quite new to forum but read this with interest if I can pass on my view! Just purchased a new VW Golf (same parts), Superb estate next. Wouldn't be without heated screen so chose this as option. On the Golf called 'Comfort Screen' non wired and is the thin film version helps keep car cool in summer deflecting sun rays and you have to select 'phone box, with it, no choice. Works brilliant as winter approaches clears the screen of moisture and no doubt ice in seconds. Have the built in SatNav but sometimes use our TomTom also. Never had a GPS issue for Tom Tom or iPhone and we hardly ever use the phone box. May be other factors not just the screen causing issues though obviously a problem for some and hope you find a quick solution.
  3. Can anyone tell me if the 280 has a special servicing schedule being high performance with associated additional costs please?
  4. Interesting as the Superb is back on the New Car Discount site with about 16% off retail price. Has anyone returned to them for ordering?
  5. Hi, have just specified what will be my new Superb Estate and just wanted feedback from anyone who has the 'Retractable Parcel Shelf' and / or 'Variable boot floor' please. Wondered how they operated and if you were happy with paying extra for them.
  6. Has anyone further information about this new trim as dealers and the Skoda website seem to be behind with this at the moment. Mentioned as available (UK) from this month in the press and can be specified on Car Wow and Drive the Deal? Was looking at the SL Executive Estate but waiting to see the full trim details of this before ordering. Thanks.
  7. So sorry to hear this news for those of you who have ordered this way. I do feel that Skoda should honour these sales and sanction the franchise dealer that allowed fleet sale cars to be sold on the general market, it wasn't as if it was a big secret they were doing this. +1 for Car Wow who are very good though you won't get discounts like NCD, they have a number of Skoda main dealers registered with them and just pass your build spec on. Main dealers reply direct and you buy from them as if walking into the showroom, all open and above board. Only other broker recommended by the press is Drive the Deal but again you won't get fleet discounts. I did consider the Superb and it really is a nice car but as so new to the market discounts from main dealers are not that great yet. On the other hand Audi have about 20% discount on the A6 Avant at the moment putting it only a few thousand above similar spec Superb and a class above in finish, quality so that's what I am buying now.
  8. Hi all, interesting topic and yes my own dilemma too. Skoda are the only VW group brand that offer the petrol (large estate)unlike the Audi A6 or VW Passat which are diesel only (excluding the S6 that is). I wish they would offer the 1.8TSi DSG Superb as in Germany here in the UK, if they did I think they would get many more petrol sales. Keen on the 220 but committing to that is hard with the temptation of the 280! Interestingly have just changed my 12 plate VW Golf 1.6 Diesel DSG for a new 1.4 TSi (125) Golf DSG and what a difference. The diesel and DSG gearbox were 'tuned' for economy and in normal drive mode a nightmare with the DSG box changing up far too early. Could also be hesitant moving off and had to think ahead, VW forums full of nightmare stories where that few seconds hesitation moving into a roundabout almost caused a collision (need S mode). MPG was good at about 49 mpg but my 1.4 petrol with only 1000 miles on is recording about 42-44 mpg already. DSG take up, drive etc so much smoother. In the diesel I often had to select S mode, never an issue in the petrol. As you say petrol engines are far more economical now, no AdBlue hassle (still an extra expense, not the 150 though), smelly hands at the pumps and the VW dealer said the rise in sale of petrol Golfs has been astronomical (before issue of emissions came up). If you look at the real mpg figures for diesel you will also find them far lower than advertised. The 220 looks a great car, yes wish we had the 1.8TSi which would be a no brainer for me, 280 wow, if you choose that mpg is not your main issue anyway! Sorry if sound biased against diesel but doing no more than 12,000 miles a year can choose between the two. Some of you are worried about petrol residuals but looking ahead I might be worried about diesel residuals as tide is maybe turning against them if keeping car long term. Have been told that one of the main reason we have had such a push with diesels in the EU is because manufactures are charged for the percentage of car engines that produce over 130 CO2 which 'hits' petrol engines. New awareness of NO2 problem will change that. If you like the diesel then its a great engine regardless of bhp, if you want the petrol go for it, real mpg closer than you think and a generally a smoother power plant.
