  1. I think they are related. Garage told me the oil leak was due to corrosion so he patched hole up with putty. But RAC said engine was burning excessive oil. I don't think cylinder misfire issue was properly fixed first time and has deteriorated.
  2. About 7 months ago my car broke down on the A19 engine light came on RAC couldn't fix it at the road side so took it to garage. RAC diagnostics identified a misfire in one of the cylinders. £700 later and persumadly a fix engine I thought I was done. Well 7 months later another engine failure and another cylinder misfire. I have attached a photo of the original work and a photo of the current RAC diagnostics. Do I have any rights in terms of warranty with it only being 7 months and seemingly related issue. Any advice on legal standing and repair advice would be appreciated. Can't afford another £700 on this engine.
  3. Hi, i have a 08 petrol manual Skoda fabia, this morning on the way into work, my engine light came on and i lost power of my car and it had a big stutter. I pulled over, turned the engine off waited about a minute, turned it back on and the engine light had gone off and the engine felt smooth and it drove fine again. Any explanation for this? is it something i should be seriously concerned about? Thanks for your time and advice.
  4. Just been in touch with the mechanic and it's the PCV valve that's damaged. He said it was covered in old oil and grease due to a poor service history. This wasn't linked to the work he originally done althought I assume that when doing the work it has triggered a straw that broke the camels back style issue that has caused it to go. He has ordered a new part and will hopefully have it sorted in the next few days.
  5. I've only had The car since October. About a month ago I was driving home from a camping trip and the engine light came on and I had instant loss of power. AA came out changes coil packs and sparks and checked electrics with no joy. Took it to garage they said 1 cylinder wasn't working at all and other 2 were working below standard. So they changed the head and the valves changed the timing belt out new air and oil filters in and all seemed well until oil light came on. The car didn't come with a service history but my mechanic said the engine wasn't in good shape and said it was caked in grease and oil and he thinks that's what's chipped the valve and caused the initial issue. The car as just under 78,000 on the clock.
  6. Yeah it's a 2008 1.2 petrol. It had head gasket and timing chain done. They used 5w/30 fully synthetic oil and that's what I used to top up. Not sure on the brand the garage used but I used halfords own brand. The work was carried out by a local mechanic.
  7. So my Fabia has been out the garage 2 week after some engine work but now we have an oil issue. My car oil light came on the other day so I thought it had a faulty sensor as I knew my car had an oil change a week before. So I checked the dip stick and it was saying empty so I put 1 litre in in case the dip stick was giving a false reading. Later that day the engine light came on so took it in and the garage said the engine was running rich. 2 days later oil light comes back on so I put another litre in and took it to the garage. They checked all around and could see no signs of a leak. So they checked the oil and it is defiantly empty so it's went through nearly 6 litres in 2 weeks. They suspect it's burning off if it's not leaking. But there has been no noticeable smoke from the exhaust. They are going to open the engine up again (cost of work covered by warranty of last work) to see if they can find out what's going on. I know some fabias have oil issues but does this fit the bill?
  8. I think I have an electrical fault with my Windows. Sometimes they become none responsive for a few days then start working again. This time my drivers window is only half closed. Is there any way I can manually close it? I know on some cars if you hold the lock button on the fob down it closes all the windows but that doesn't seem to work on this one. Just need a temporary fix for tonight whilst it's raining until I can get to a garage.
  9. The garage came highly recommended by a host of family and friends and is part of the vetted and checked scheme. All's well that ends well. I'm just happy to have me car fixed and running.
  10. that didn't work. I'm not sure how to insert images.

  12. The AA spent 2 hours at the roadside changing all the coils and spark plugs checking all the electrics and trying everything to get it going but said it would need to be opened up to see what is wrong. I will be the first to admit that i have zero mechanics knowledge so I may have got some of the technical terms mixed up and also my mam was doing most of the communicating as I work long hours which meant I couldn't talk to them directly so maybe a case of Chinese whispers. I have a break down of the part (although it doesn't state brands) which I will upload if I can.
  13. Thanks for the help and advice everyone it's been really useful...
  14. Just too update finally got my car back after nearly 2 weeks in the garage turns out the car I bought in September had been poorly kept and hardly serviced. One cylinder was cracked the other 2 in poor repair. So all 3 cylinders have been replaced new head gaskgey new timing belt all new coils and spark plugs new oil and air filters he also mended exhaust and put it through its mot and labour all for £700. Which I'm happy about it now feels like a new car and most of all its safe and back to full working order.
  15. Just got off the phone to the mechanic he says it looks like one of the valves is broken. He's going to have to strip it down replace the valve. Looking at around £500 to fix.
  16. Ironically it was already booked in to the garage tomorrow because the hand brake needs looked at so hopefully whilst he's on it the mechanic can sort it. AA guy just said the compression in the 2nd cylinder was low and misfiring he did say he didn't see and leaking so gaskets look ok and all the electrics going in looked good. I'm not sure on the quality of his coilpak tho.
  17. The engine light came on on the motorway and I I instantly lost power managed to cruise down the motorway until I found a layby. Car won't go over 30mph and is chugging whilst idle. The AA man changed coil sparks check electrics but said compression was still low and that he couldn't fix it at the road side so towed me to a garage who are going to look at it tomorrow.
  18. The AA had a look changed the coil changed the spark plug checked the electrics but it's still saying low compression in cyclinder 2. Anyone got any ideas what the issue might be and how much I'm looking at for a garage to fix it?
  19. Just got back from a camping trip and I go 8o% of the way home and my engine light came on my 08 1.2 fabia and I lost all my power. Pulled over turned the engine off and back on and it was chugging really heavy. Really strange just out of no where it went. Oil looks good plenty of petrol no over smoke or over heating. Gutted.
  20. Thanks for the reply. I have no real knowledge of cars, is it an easy job? Or am I better off getting someone to do it for me?
  21. I should mention that kwik fit topped the brake fluid up 4 weeks ago.
  22. Hi thanks for your reply, it's a 2008 1.2. Not 100 on the brake type. I'm a little surprised because I took my car to kwik fit 4 weeks ago for a brake test as I thought they felt a bit spoungy but kwik fit said both pads and disks were well with in legal requirements but my brake fluid was a bit low. So I'm surprised the main issues are with the brakes.
  23. Hi my 2008 fabia just failed it's mot on parking brake: efficiently below requirements. (3.7.B.7) Rear parking brake recording little or no effort (o/s and n/s) (3.7.B.6a) Exhaust emmissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive (7.3.D.4) emissions max limit 0.300 1st test 0.375 2nd test 0.382. Any ideas what work I will need done to fix these issues and what kind of money I'm looking at. Thanks in advance.
