  1. Hi guys! Has anyone heard of / done the retrofitting of the headunit. The cars been out for 1 year+ and I still havent heard of the way to retrofit a better headunit. Ive seen navigation add-ons for the Bolero headunit, but the are way more expensive than they should be. Cheers. Indrek.
  2. Dont be foolish. iPhone SE is newer than iPhone 5. How much logic does it make that 5 works and SE and 6 which are older devices do not work?!? Update your device and restart your headunit. Will make it work . There is a scam in the headunit when you have more than 3-4 Apple Carplay devices data saved. Dunno why. It happened with my iPhone 7 aswell. Reset and all good. Indrek.
  3. When i comes to fuel efficiency my last tank was 70l and I drove 1200km with it. 80% highway / 20% city. 1.4 TSI ACT.
  4. Do not open the umbrellas. I´ve opened both of my umbrellas once. Both broken. Broke the lower mechanism. Went to warranty changed them and I will never use them again :P.
  5. dstev2000, I am quite sure that tire wear will trigger it eventually. But I am not so sure, that any of the cars that we drive (all relatively new) have gone so much mileage for that to become a fact. My routine after these errors is very simple. I pretty much visit gas station every week. So I always check the tire pressure and reset the system and set it. At the moment 4 months and counting , nothing wrong. And FYI , winter tire change triggered it aswell. Skoda should just explain how the system works, I imagine they get a lot of calls , because ppl are scared that something really happened. But a bad example aswell. The same system and a brand-new VW. 6 errors in the first week. Nothing wrong. Seventh error at the start of the next week, owner does not trust the system anymore, does not check. Two of the four tires , actually belowe bar and two tires broken. So, whenever the error light comes up, check the car. Two minutes costs less than two brand new tires .
  6. Thank for the reply Ken. Point 2. I understand the logic. But the thing that makes it hard to understand is that it should be the opposite way around? Meaning that if you go from D to P the engine should be more quiet , in idle mode. For my car its the opposite way, meaning that when the engine is in D mode the engine is really smooth and quiet. When I go to P mode then the engine sound becomes more loud. But , it may very actually be the idle stabilization that you told.
  7. The car is perfect in pretty much every way (even with the sounds and rattles). Just the point is that it can always be better, doesen´t matter what you are driving. dstev2000 you pretty much summe all of the problems I have aswell: 1) plastic sounds (coming from the vent shafts, hopefully will be replaced). 2) Steering sounds are awful when the car is not moving (i was pretty much scared sh**less the first time I heard it). After that just made a correction that never do I ever use the steering wheel when the car isint moving. With Audi this was not a problem (the situation where you are in really really tight place). 3) Rear screen washer - The most pointless part of the car. No use whatsoever. But all in all, the car is very good. You cant get anything better for that kind of money. The thing with you guys which seems to be decent is that your dealerships really seem to make an effort upon taking care of your problems. In my country you pretty much need to be a CSI guy with waterproof evidence (videos) and stuff like that to even get them take you seriously. No video = they wont do nothing. The way things are done here Best of luck making our cars better. Indrek.
  8. Hi there! I have a 1.4 TSI Skoda Superb (8000km) on the clock. 1.4 TSI ACT, 7 DSG. ENGINE: The thing is I am starting to hear funny noises from the engine. The first noise that spooked me was the opening sound when the engine starts, it kinda does like swoosh sound. Upon research I found out that this is normal. There are two more sounds that I dont understand yet. 1) When I start the car with a cold engine and start driving in the first 100 - 200m upon accelerating to low-speeds (30-40) there comes a whistling sound from the engine. I need to have all the stuff turned down (music, climate control and so on) to hear that. Never payed attention to it before. Is this normal? 2) When the engine is warm and I park the car (meaning from drive function "D" to park function "P") then the engine sound becomes different. At first there was no difference the engine sounded the same as it did when in drive mode "D". I had a big roadtrip when I drove 400km , upon arriving switched to "P" and then discovered that engine started doing a different sound. All in all it does not sound , like something is wrong but still, I want to understand why the engine acts like that. SUSPENSION: 1) I´ve pretty much driven stiff cars through out my life , but the new Superb must be the stiffest I have ever had. I mean I can literally feel and hear every bump that there is in the road. If I drive to a smaller not-healthy round and even when I go through the smaller holes in low speeds (i.e 5-15km/h) then the car feels like riding a bull on open landscape. What are your expirience´s with that? I would really appreciate it when someone could explain to me the engine sounds and what they mean. It is really really hard to communicate with the dealership in my country. Meaning, if I do not have a video that proves it all they do not even have the time to test-drive the car and try it out. And most of these things are pretty hard to record, cause I do not have an understanding when and how these sounds come. Thanks in advance! Indrek.
  9. My 1.4 tsi is around 100 - 105. Its normal.
  10. I had the same question as you did about 6 months ago. 1.4 ACT vs 1.8. I chose 1.4 , ofc 1.8 is more powerful, but the 1.4 engine is far more better than I expected. The last car I drove was 2009 3.0 tdi A6 quattro. The main thing is that I havent had to change anything the way I drive. And thats a very important thing. Just compare the engines, 171kw vs 110kw. The 1.4 is very good, it costs less and 1.8 was and propably will remaina very very problematic engine. Atleast in Eastern Europe these engines have been like the 3rd revenge of Hitler!????
  11. I have the 1.4 ACT engine , the car is estate version. Meaning the heavyest possible combination. For my own suprise, the car really moves fast. At first I was cautios when the car was in full load (4 grown ups and 1 child + boot fully loaded), but the car does not dissapoint. The power is still there and under Estonian traffic regulation (110km/h on highways) I can pretty much do whatever I want. Last car I had was 2009 A6 with 3.0. Atm (8k km on the clock) I wouldnt say that the acceleration is bad. All in all the A6 is faster and more powerful, but when it functionality , then I haven't changed the way drive. Thumbs up for the 1.4ACT engine, it costs less than the 1.8, but in my opinion is far more better choice.
  12. Hello! Yesterday I encountered an interesting thing with my start-stop function. Usually the start stop works as follows: I brake the car down, supress the brake (automatic transmission) and the car starts when I supress the gas pedal next time. Yesterday I discovered that suddenly my car now starts the engine when I depress the brake. Anybody else had something like that happening to his / her car? Best regards. Indrek.
  13. Hello everybody! The problem with "tire pressure sensor" in our cars is that , its actually not a tire pressure sensor . I, as all of you had the same error. Got scared (in highway, 60km to the nearest gasstation) and eventually there was no drop in the tire pressure. The thing with the so-called "tire pressure sensor" is that calculates how your wheels move. It analyses every data available (except the tire pressure itself). Meaning , if you get the error light it doesent necessarily mean, that your tire is flat. It might mean that there is something wrong with the ABS or the brakes aswell. So , when this happens to you, just stop the car check your tires visually, if they look good then drive to the nearest gas-station , check the pressure and restart the sensor. Thus far (6000km) I have had 2 error lights. None of them proving to be right.
  14. I have had the S3 for 6 months now. My take on the extras is the following: - Get as much driver aid systems as you can. My car is estate and it really is big. So anykind of driver help system (parking aid, parking camera, blindspot and so on) will help you a lot. - Think 1000x if you want a GPS solution or not. My mistake was that I chose the Bolero radio (with Apple CarPlay / Android auto functionality). As it turns out it was a bad call. Meaning that I am not a huge fan of hooking my phone everytime i get to the car (does not work wirelessly). The second thing is that using your phone as GPS means that you pretty much need to have cellular data available always. Due to the fact that I live in Estonia its a pretty big restriction for me. I can only use it Estonia (currently) and the end conclusion would be that it would be been 10x easier to just pay 500 EUR more to get the GPS viable infotainment system for my car (Amudsen). And if you choose to go with the Bolero solution then bear in mind that you can´t modify or replace it. The replacement from Bolero to Columbus costs around 3000 EUR and the dealership is not sure if the CAN network of the car (installed with Bolero natively) works with it. - Led Pack (Car looks better); - Heated front screen; - Heated and packable mirrors; - Metallic paint; - Beautiful alloys (The thing with alloy´s is something you need to think about. The problem here is that , its rather cheap buying your car with nice wheels (when you order it). This changes when you want to buy extra alloy wheels. Let me give you an example. If you buy a new car with 18" alloys you pay +400 EUR for these wheels. All set and done. If you choose 17" alloys and then want to buy extra 18" alloys then the wheels cost 400 EUR / a piece. Meaning that you pay 2x extra. 17" alloys are cheaper (i got them for 600 EUR). So all in all add-ins are cool things , but we have entered the era where you really need to think about what you choose to have in your car. Modification is pretty much impossible (atleast in Estonia) and has no economic sense whatsoever. So , from one guy to another , think hard before you choose anything, cause you have to live with it for the reminder of the years you are using this car. And , it is a lot cheaper in long term to buy a car with more equipment then to start modifying it after your machine has been delievered. Cheers. Indrek.
  15. Hi. I own the same engine. It depens how detail-prone you actually are. Due to the fact that (unfortunately to me) I always hear and feel everything. You can certanly feel when the engine goes to the 2-cyl mode. I would describe it as a very small bump. It does not disturb me. Engine work regiment change: My engine keeps rev´s higher. The last car that I had was over 10 years old (Audi A4), it had kinda the change mod done with the multitronic CVT gearbox. With the Audi it was disturbing, cause the car became really erratic (meaning, that if you slightly over push the acceleration then the car would jump). The new superb is pretty much perfect, meaning that you see that the engine rev´s are a little bit higher but the car feels the same.
  16. hi! Thanks for all the reply´s. I will need to look into that Kenwood addition, seems to be the solution that i´m looking for. Sygic app would be great, if you could only mirror it to your car´s radio with iphone. Unfortunately , you can not.
  17. Hello guys! Has anyone come out with a good idea to get a stand-alone GPS solution into your car? Upon ordering the SIII I thought that the Apple CarPlay / Android Auto solution would be OK for me. As it turns out, it was not the best idea, cause in Europe the solution still has many problems. I.e not available offline, carrier charges abroad and so on. Estonian Skoda prices the exchange of Bolero to Columbus roughly up to 10% of the cars prize in total. So it is no way a solution for me. At the moment I am not looking for B part into the car, meaning that a symbiosis of Bolero and a B part would be the best solution. Can you guys brief me on the options available. Thanks in return! Indrek.
