Thanks for the help, it`s much appreciated. I really do hope that it is only the battery and at worst the starter motor aswell. I don`t mind buying a new one just as long as it keeps her on the road. Regards Phil

Hi all I`m really hopeing someone can help me here. With the Octavia now being my weekend car and with me being so busy at work recently i`ve had no time to play around with it. It`s been sat on the drive for a month and hasen`t been started. When i got to the car the LED bulb which normally flashes blue was on a static blue so straight away thought there was something wrong. It unlocked ok, when i got in the car the dials didn`t show anything. I connected the Vectra and Octy together with jump leads and nothing happened apart from the fans came on and the starter motor was just spinning instead of cranking the engine. I tried this twice and on the 2nd attempt it drained the battery in the Vectra and there was a smell of burning in the Octy`s interior. I`m really hopeing that this isn`t going to cost the earth as it`s a fantastic car and put`s a smile on my face everytime i drive it. I`m thinking of maybe trying a new battery and a new starter motor as everytime i`ve started the car over the past few months it`s made a screaming like sound when the engines fired up. I believe this is a well known problem in the MK1 Octavia`s. Any help would be great Regards Phil.

front suspension rattle/knock
Phil_VRS replied to spitrans's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
It`s funny this topic has come up as mine has just started doing this aswell. It drives me mad and it sends a knock through the steering wheel aswell which on rough roads is really bad. Plus i`ve just noticed that the front tyres need a change again already after only 6000 miles. The last Pirelli P6000`s lasted nearly 25000 miles. I`m guessing either somethings worn or the state of Britains roads has thrown the tracking well out :( Phil. -

Hi all I had the engine managment light come on yesterday and straight away looked under the bonnet. There is a leak on one of the hoses which seems to head underneath the manifold and thins off at the end. Does anybody know what it`s purpose is? I`m certain the car isn`t pulling as hard as it normally would. With the car being used everyday and covering around 35,000 miles a year i always keep well on top of servicing and repairs so if anyone could help me out that would be great. All the best Phil.

I just had mine changed today for a grand total of £370 which also included a service. I had it done at Volkservice in Blackpool. Awesome garage with a great customer service. Phil

Hi all I was driving down the motorway the other night when a rabbit came running out from the grass verge and with me doing speeds of 80MPH i didn`t fancy pulling the wheel to one side as it was -9 outside. It hit the front bumper on the nearside and has caused the bumper to bend in and pull the top bit from under the headlight. What`s the easiest way to get the side clips to undo at the sides as from what i can make out it should be just a case of heating the bumper up and it popping back out. There`s no cracking in the bumper at all. I`m just looking into the easiest ways to sort due to me needing the car everyday and with it being one the WRC models i don`t want to be replacing it with with just a white replacment bumper. Thanks Phil.

I recently had to change my rear plate on the Octy but i decided to tape it on with some Harris number plate tape from Halfords. It`s been on 3 months now and still stuck solid. I kind of prefer the look of the plates without the screw covers showing. It`s all down to personnal opinion i suppose though. Phil
