  1. Hi, I have a Octavia MK2 1.6 FSI, petrol with 171.000 miles, and a while ago I noticed small hesitations in acceleration, here and there, not very often (without triggering any fault codes). Problem became worse 2 weeks ago, when hesitations became worse (and more frequent, on a daily basis), and Check engine light start blinking a few times, before remain light up - Fault code P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire. Replaced the ignition coil no 3, same symptoms, replaced spark plug no 3, same symptoms and error. I mention the car does not start hesitating/juddering on acceleration until the engine is not warmed up, and if I keep driving for a long time with these symptoms, at some point the ECU cuts off the 3rd cylinder, running only in 3 cylinders (very painful to drive, as you almost can't accelerate). Before ordering an injector, I'm thinking of running a Redex fuel system cleaner in the fuel tank, maybe I will be lucky. Anyone used it in a similar problem, is it worth it ? As the injector + labor is quite painful for the budget.
  2. Hello guys, I have an Octavia MK2 1.6 FSI 2005 with 121000 miles and now I'm getting the EML on, and on the reader it says P0420 - P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold. The engine is vibrating a bit on idle compare to normal days (before the error came up), and I'm feeling a little bit of hesitation when accelerating. I mention I just changed 2 days ago the Ignition Coils for Cylinder 2 and 4, as they were gone (the engine was running like crap, no power, shaking and juddering a lot). I suppose there are 2 Lambda sensors, are they difficult to replace ? I don't know if the sensors were changed before, as I have the car for 1 year now, but I'm thinking if it's not a connection with recent change of Ignition Coils for Cylinder 2 and 4. Also what else can it be ? Fuel injector ? Fuel filter ? The thing is this error is a bit too generic, and I don't want to be in a position of changing the O2 sensors and find out it's something else.. Any opinion would be much appreciated..
  3. Hello, does anyone know an 'affordable' Skoda dealer when it comes to buy Original Skoda parts ? I'm looking for the timing chain kit, as I have a rattle on the engine when the engine start for about 2 sec, then it dissapears. Someone told he it's the tensioner that's becoming faulty. The car is an Octavia 1.6 FSI petrol, 2005, engine code BLF, and the oil was changed 4 months ago (so it's not the oil). I saw on ebay the aftermarket kit for £150, but I mention I 'burned' myself with aftermarket parts (last year I bought an aftermarket EGR which didn't seal at all - it has 1mm space all around the channel - rubish chinese), so I think I better buy the original part (as the labour is quite expensive on this replacement and can't aford 2 replacements).
  4. No, it's aftermarket, but as I said, the new EGR seems to be working fine as the engine is warming up much faster than with the previous EGR which was blocked.
  5. Hello, here's my nightmare story: The car in question is an Octavia 1.6 FSI mk2, 2005, and I had a faulty EGR valve for some time, so I decided it's time to change it (turned up a broken plastic gear inside the EGR valve after opening it, which didn't let the valve to open). I bought a new valve with new gaskets and I fitted myself. I mention that before fitting the new valve, the engine was running perfect, with no problems at all (just it took much longer to warm up due to faulty EGR). After fitting the new valve, nightmare starts - the engine has a very rough idle, the rpm drops around 600-650 rpm (before was around 750). I did the checks in VCDS on EGR, everything seems fine, reset ECU, problem stays. Now the engine light came on and turns 2 errors: 008584 - Bank 1 - System too Rich at Idle P2188 - 002 - - MIL ON Freeze frame .....etc.. 001032 - EGR sensor 2 P0408 - 001 - Signal too High - Intermitent Freeze frame....etc. I looked a lot online about these problems and turns up many possible causes : MAF sensor, EGR pipe, improper EGR seal, O2 sensor....etc... I would rule out the possibility of the new EGR valve to be faulty, as the engine is warming up much faster than before, so the valve it's working. I don't really understand how these problems showed up now, after changing a new EGR valve, and with the old blocked EGR valve I had no errors (except the EGR), but the engine was running smoothly, not shaky and rough like now. Also mention that when I replaced the old valve, I found silicone around both ends of the valve, where the EGR gaskets are. I didn't put any silicone on the new one, as I'm under the impression that the metal gaskets should seal enough. Do I really need to put silicone around the gaskets ? Also did a throttle body clean, and no luck. Anyone has any ideas ? Your answers will be much appreciated.
  6. Thanks for advice, I found Pentosin Super Dot 4 Plus on carpartsforless and also Pagid (Pentosin is 3 times the price of Pagid, but 15 quid is not the end of the world), I'll go for the Pentosin. Is there a specific sign/symptom that the brake fluid need to be changed (as I said, I don't know when the previous owner changed it last time, and I'm not happy with the car brakes - but may be due to worn rear brake pads/discs, which I will change them anyway - just bought Bosch rear discs/pads, and was thinking of changing the brake fluid as well). I know Octavia Estate is a heavy car, but comparing with by old Fabia Estate, Fabia was 'freezing' on the road when I was braking, when Octavia does something like a long braking...
  7. Haven't done anything yet, as I asked some people from a garage who fitted these chinese units for themselves and told me after 2-3 month they failed due to poor parts/cooling system of chinese units. I don't really want to spend 200 + labor for a new unit just for 2-3 months.
  8. Hi Stuart, thanks for advice, I found out what size rear brake discs I have from PR code on the sticker - it says 1KF so it's 256mm in diameter, however I can't find any code for the front discs (so I can buy the correct front brake pads).
  9. Hello, I want to change my rear brake discs and pads on my Octavia MK2 2005 1.6 FSI estate, chassis 1Z5, and after hours of searching how to find out the correct specs, figured out I have to buy 1KF rear brake discs (lucky I found the service/part no sticker on the service manual, as the one under the boot carpet is damaged). All good so far, I don't know if I should go for Bosch or Brembo rear brake discs and pads (the price is the same). Anyone recommend one or the other one ? The fun part start on the front brake pads: I can't find anywhere some indications regarding the type of front brake pads: so I put the reg no in eurocarparts or carpartsforless and turns out 2 models for front brake pads: first for 1ZF/1ZM, and second one for 1LL,1LP,1ZE. I have no idea which one I have and where to look at. Also I would like to change the brake fluid, as I don't know when it was changed last time, and again I don't know how much brake fluid should I buy: 500 ml, 1 L, 2L ??? Highly appreciate your answers.
  10. I see from ebay the is for Octavia 2009-2012. Any idea if it works on 2005 ?
  11. Hello, I have a Skoda Octavia MK2 2005 Elegance, 1.6 FSI, fitted with a standard Skoda Auto Stream unit, which can only play CDs, and doesn't have AUX or Bluetooth connection. I'm looking to upgrade my stereo/satnav/bluetooth unit, but I don't know which other models are going to work with my configuration. I've seen others like BOLERO, or COLUMBUS but I have no idea if they'll work on my car. Does anyone updgraded to one of these ? And with what cost ? Also I suppose if I upgrade to one of the new stereo models, I will still have showing the car's configurations that I currently have: air con, rear parking sensors... Another interesting thing is that ebay is full of fancy chinese Stereo/satnav/bluetooh devices, 7-8 inches, with touchscreen, and they look BRILLIANT. But when I asked an auto electrician if he can fit it to my car, he said it can work or not, depending on luck. Anyone tried one of these chinese units ?
  12. Hello all, I have a really weird and stupid problem...my retractable boot cover was all open and loose, woudn't retract any more, so I opened the endings, roll the cover completely, spin the end fitting that moves the inside spring for about 20 times and fit it back in. Test it, all ok, the cover was retracting. Happy days... BUT when I fit it back in the car, nightmare: I open the cover completely, LOCK IT in place (I hear the click when it locks), but when I close the boot, the boot door itself it's touching the edge if the cover AND OPEN IT !!!. That is a stupid nightmare !!!. So the cover lock in place very nice, but the boot door touch the edge of it when it close and it's opening it... any advise ?
  13. Hello, I have an Octavia MK2 2005, 1.6 FSI petrol, and I am a bit confused about what engine coolant should I use. In the manual it says to use the pink/purple one (so I'm thinking the cheap pink Halford coolant will do), but when I put my reg number on halfords website, they recommend Comma G40 coolant, which is a blueish one. I've seen a similar topic where someone says it should be G12/G13, so I'm a bit confused....blue or pink ? G12/13 or G40 ? Also I am loosing quite constant coolant. I mention that I probably have a faulty EGR valve, as I have engine management light lit up and after scanning with VCDS shows 005123 - EGR system P1403 - 008 Regulation Deviation - MIL ON. Paid (wasted) 40 quids on a EGR valve cleaning yesterday, but light came up again. I think I saw a topic where someone had something simillar, like loosing coolant due to fault EGR valve (the valve was flushing coolant throgh the exhaust system). So what do you think ? Loosing coolant due to faulty EGR valve ? And also which type coolant: blue or pink, G12/13 or G40 ? Thank you
  14. Hello, I have a Skoda Fabia MK1 2002, 1.4MPI , and after a check engine light I scanned with VCDS, and show: 16523 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1S2 P0139 - 35-10 - Response too Slow - Intermittent 16554 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 P0170 - 35-00 - Malfunction I mention that I had the same errors about 1 year ago, and I changed both Lambda sensors (front and back), and the errors cleared. But now they come up again. Don't think the sensors are faulty after 1 year after replacement (that would be weird). The car runs normal, start normal, everything fine, just this annoying error codes. Also I mention that a week ago I had an 'extra' error code, together with the ones above: 16825 - EVAP Emission Control Sys , P0441 - 35-10 - Incorrect flow - Intermitent, but when I scanned now, this error cleared, but the first 2 are still in place. Any suggestions ?
  15. Hello, I have a Skoda Fabia Estate 2003, 1.4mpi, 8v, 68 bhp, 6Y5, engine code AQW, and a few days ago I was blessed with a "check engine" light on the dashboard. Put the vag-com, scan, and here's what is says: 16524 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S2 P0140 - 35-10 - No activity - Intermittent 16554 - Fuel Trim, Bank 1 - P0170 - 35-00 - Malfunction The weird part is that I REPLACED the Lambda sensor 1 month ago, and it was working fine till now, so I don't really understand. Does this model have 2 oxygen sensor ? (front and rear), as I can find rear O2 sensor looking online. Also I mention I was blessed (again) with a 5 wire Lambda sensor on this model (which cost double than the one with 4 wires). I suppose those 2 errors are related each other. Any ideas what is going on ?
