I was told that, eventhough the spare has a steel wheel, it is a lighter weight wheel - thus the limit. The difference in radius for these two sizes is less than 5mm John

All, Is it possible to change what is displayed in the lower third of the maxi-dot display. Presently, the top third shows the radio station (when radio is ON), the middle section shows the trip/mpg/speed/time, the lower third display shows the outside temperature. However, the outside temperature is shown on the Climatronic display, so I would like some other item of information instead. Can this be done without a VAGCOM/VCDS? What optional information is available? Many thanks, John

Bullyboy - thank you for your comments. My previous Level 2 2008 estate had these underseat boxes and I found them useful as the dash gloveboxes do not hold much at all. So these give just that bit more useable space. Mrgf - thank you as well. I shall let the dealer know about the Mk I boxes to order. Cheers, John Didescharlie ;-)

Does anyone know if the Mark I underseat storage boxes can be retro-fitted to Mk II. I found this article: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/169223-mk1-underseat-box/page__p__2137626__hl__seat+storage__fromsearch__1#entry2137626 My dealer is having a problem sourcing Mk II boxes. Any advice welcome. Regards, John

Is it worth getting my own VCDS? Where do you get them from and for how mouch? I am recording the tank full to tank full usage, would a dealer do the calibration? Many thanks, John

I read somewhere that the fuel calculation on the Maxi-dot can be calibrated to be more accurate. Can someone tell me how this is done and what details I need to record. Many thanks, John

My 59-plated Level 3 estate has a rear interior light - the manual shows two types. My one has the three way switch - on/off/on with doors. The other type has two spotlights that can turned on or off only. They may be available as an accessory. John

Got my Estate.... its grand
Johnhowell replied to snownrock's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Got my Fab2 Estate 1.9 TDI (105bhp) yesterday, nice sedate drive home (running in). Love the fuel range calculation (dealer filled up fuel tank) increasing from 295 miles to 410 miles during the journey home :-)) My partners' Fab2 Hatch 1.4 TDI (80bhp) today indicated 475 mile range even after already covering 70 miles. If you want a picture of mine - look at the cover of the Fabia brochure - Anthracite grey metallic. Regards John -
Thank you. John

We are collecting our new Fabia 2 cars next Saturday. I wonder if someone could tell me the redline limit on the tachometer for a 1.4 TDi (80bhp) and, if different, a 1.9 TDi (105bhp)? Many thanks, John

Celerrime, That is good news - nearly 500 miles out of the tank. Car should be ready by mid-October. John -

Johnhowell replied to nickcoll's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
I make 17 km/litre = 48 mpg 17 /1.609 (km/mile) = 10.566 miles/litre 10.566 x 4.546 (litres/UK gallon) = 48.03 mpg I am about to collect my 1.9 TDI Fabia 2 estate and would hope to get over 50 mpg from it, which is a lot better than my present 22 mpg (12.8 litres/100km) in the Impreza. Regards, John -
Did you find the installation easy? John
-
Which horn did you replace with? Where did you get it from? I loved the horn on my old Peugeot 309GTi, and hate the feeble horn on the Impreza. John Fabia 2 1.9 TDi 105bhp Estate on order.

JonA Thanks for the replies. John

Jon, Thanks for the reply. So no tint on the front side windows? The test went well, sadly the sales person was not in today and the service manager did not want to commit to the sales side of the business. So shall have to rearrange a another day when my partner can leave work a bit early and have a chat. I think the 1.4 TDi 80 hatchback for her and a 1.9 TDi 105 estate for me ;-) After an Impreza turbo, I am sure things will be very different, but nows the time to change from being a "boy racer" at my age !!! Cheers, John

All, My partner and I are going to test drive a 1.4 TDi 80bhp tomorrow and wondered how the sunset glass option was different from the standard glass. Looked in the brochure and the skoda website and no mention is made into want this glazing is. Is it a tint? Does it go better with certain colours - my partner is thinking of the Corrida Red and mine would be Anthracite Grey Thanks, John

Shuddery Fabia on Tick-over
Johnhowell replied to graphite58's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
My girlfriends 2000W 1.4MPi also shudders and the revs drops sharply when first starting off, dipping the clutch does save it a bit but not completely. I thought this was the sooting up of the throttle inlet chamber? There is a message some time ago showing how to clean the housing. Regards, John -
Be careful. Just today found out that the left front wheel hub has a large crack through it! We had the initial knocking sound from the front, the Anti-Roll Bar was changed. Went quiet for a short time, but then it started again - front left spring broken. Now the hub. I would suggest that the top suspension mount and bearing be checked before it spreads to more expensive items! John

My girlfriend found that holding the CD/eject button in for much longer than you think you should works for a stuck CD John

Bahnstormer, Thanks for the reply. I have checked the area around the fan - nothing obvious. Someone suggested it could be the alternator belt, I checked it is not too tight nor too slack. I shall ask my girlfriend to vary the blower speed when it does happen again - but has only happened two/three times so far. Thanks for suggesting cleaning the filter (and how), I shall do so at the weekend. Cheers, John
