  1. Oil was changed two months ago I did put in afterwards some Halfords oil supplement which brought up the oil level on the dipstick at bit Lodestone
  2. Is it OK to run the car re this oil pressure aspect - as I have to wait until my local garage has a free booking ? Lodestone
  3. Wino Thanks (You have helped me in the past) The engine does not appear noisy It is the 8 valve 1.4 MPI engine I'll check tomorrow (its dark now) to see if there is a leak - but no evidence as such on the driveway
  4. The oil warning light and associated buzzer is showing on my Fabia 1.4 Comfort It comes on after the engine warms up However, the engine oil is "full" - and perhaps slightly overfilled The car has done just 20K miles but is "old" with a Y Registration I had a recent problem with the coolant light coming on, but this was because the radiator plastic bottle needed topping up , and since topping up that indicator has not since re-appeared - but the oil light has followed a day later - any connection ? Any advice appreciated Lodestone
  5. Upon starting the engine the coolant warning buzzer sounds for a while When car running the dashboard indicator (showing a thermometer) stays on for a while - and then turns off It appears to be an intermittent fault I've checked the radiator water levels and that's Ok, the temp gauge in the car shows top dead centre I,v tried to check the radiator fan fuse , but infuriating the handbook does not show the fuse number The fan was not working when I checked it when the engine was hot ? The car has done 20k miles from new - but the car is "old" on a Y reg Any advice appreciated Regards Lodestone
  6. Thank you for this useful information . and thank you to all those who responded to queries re PAS and Aircon - PAS now resolved , and saving up for the Aircon repair Lodestone
  7. Upon returning to a car park in town centre, I noticed that there was a quarter inch "gap" where the plastic bumper joins the front RH side metal wing I think this occured when another car backed into it Conflicting views from car repair body shops , one says that the entire bumper has to be removed to get at the fixings, and another says that the headlamp assembly , front wheel and the plastic "innards" under the wing needs to be removed to gain access I have noticed that if the bumper is lifted up from underneath the gap closes to the same dimensions as to the wing on the other side - but it springs back again when released Any advice as which of the above car body repairers is correct - or are there other methods ? Lodestone
  8. Typo error re Skoda in heading - spotted after I pressed send - dammit ! Lodestone
  9. The green emblem on the front radiator grille has become tarnished, and I propose to replace with with a new one Advice appreciated as to how to get the old one out (the fixing screws or studs appear rusted in) and to fit the replacement one ? Lodestone
  10. I have been advised to use a hair dryer - any merit re this ? Lodestone
  11. It's a Skoda Honest on the hatchback window - the joke has long gone stale It seems to be individual letters affixed very firmly on to the glass How do I remove it without damaging the heated rear screen electrodes ? Lodestone
  12. The battery is at the front RH side of the engine bay There is a tray on top with electrical cables Thee appears to be a cylinder underneath it with a opening nut on top Is this the right one If requires topping up - what fluid should be used ? Lodestone
  13. Recently acquired 2002 Fabia Comfort with just 19k miles The plastic type covers on the head light assembly are "foggy" and T-Cut has made little difference Any suggestions re creams or polishes that may make the headlights more clearer welcomed Maybe however that it could be on the inside ? Re the echo effect, I have noticed this on other makes of older cars whereby the acrylic or plastic head lamp covers are in the same condition as mine - and some even worse Lodestone
  14. Thanks The battery is a new Halfords , and I have just fitted 4 new Continental Tyres 185/60R 14 CO5 82H The previous tyres (same size) were Chinese imports which I promptly took off due stopping/safety reasons I have not checked the headlights scenario - but will do so Lodestone
  15. Recently acquired Fabia Comfort 2001 plate with just 19k miles on the clock, appears to exhibit heavy steering (as if there were no power steering) at very slow speeds and is particularly noticable when parking or manourvering the car At normal motoring speeds the power steering seems OK Any indications as to the cause and remedies would be appreciated PS: I am very impressed with the build quality of the Fabia - but in view of the above I do hope that I have not bought a "pup" ! Lodestone
  16. Many thanks to all those Fabia owners who have responded with excellent advice on this aircon subject As my local garage in Southeast Essex are not skilled in aircon repairs , I shall be considering utilising an auto aircon company and have located some who say they specialise in this field Any recommendations please re a reliable and competent aircon repairer for the Southend on Sea area ? Lodestone
  17. More details - the fault code is 00818 sensor for evap outlet temp G263 Your advice as to what the fault is, where is it - and how does one get to it to replace etc Lodestone
  18. Put my Fabia 1.4 Comfort (19k miles only) into local garage today for AIRCON charge Garage advised that a fault code on the recharge machine showed apparently an evaporator problem The garage is seeking advice as to how to fix from elsewhere, but they are uncertain if the "works" is mounted under the dashboard on the passenger side - or the drivers side If the latter it may mean taking off the steering wheel and part of the dash board to get "at it" Any advice as to where and how would be appreciated Lodestone
  19. Correction to my former message above The tyres on my Fabia are 185/60R14 The cheap Chinese tyres where taken off today and replaced by 4 new Continentals ECO5 82H - now feel more comfortable with these premium tyres Presumably, I should ensure that any alloys that I purchase are able to match these new tyres - any advice would be appreciated Lodestone
  20. Thanks for the above info The tyres on my Fabia are 165/70R14 For alloys would you know if I can use the rims that will take a 175/65R14 or the 185/55/R15 - bigger tyres which may enhance the look of the car ? Conversely the current non alloy hubs are not too badly scuffed, but the tyres are cheap dubious Chinese imports - and I want to take them off Can I replace them with new tyres but of the larger 175/65 R14 - or even the 185/55/R15 size - as I may go for this less expensive option My local Skoda dealer has mentioned a cheaper alloy option via EPAC ? Regards Lodestone
  21. Thank you Very useful information The car is being delivered by the dealer on Saturday (it is being serviced by them) so I'll look at the tyre size I recall that the car had 4 good tread tyres, but 3 of them are cheap Chinese (which I will remove pronto) the other being an Avon - with a new Avon as spare Apparently the previous owner changed the orignal tyres because they perished and were out of safe date I'll spend what it takes Lodestone
  22. Recently purchased a Fabia 1.4 Comfort 2001 plate 19k miles The wheel hubs are scuffed, and I am thinking and changing to alloys - and thet look better ! I am aware of pattern and cheap Far East imports that may not withstand kerb knocks or minor collisions Any recommendations as to where I can source durable and safe alloys would be appreciated Lodestone
  23. Just recently purchased a Fabia Comfort 1.4 2001 plate with just 19k miles The wheel hubs show the usual signs of scuffing , and I am thinking of changing them for alloys I am aware that there are pattern or import versions which may not withstand kerb knocks or minor accidents Any advice or suggestions as to where to source genuine alloys from would be appreciated Lodestone
  24. I too have just bought a Fabia 2001 1.4 - all docs with the car except the handbook I'll look on E-Bay - but any suggestions as to other sources would be appreciated Lodestone
  25. Just recently purchased a 2001 Fabia with almost full documentation - except the handbook ? Can anyone advise as to how to go about obtaining a handbook for this car
