My 2007 2.0 Tdi has had a slight metallic squeal when pulling away on slight right lock since new. Garage found no fault when checked under warranty, the non-franchise people who have serviced a variety of Audis, Skodas and our SEAT also could not find anything wrong. It hasn't got worse or better over the years and I reckon it is something to do with a harmonic resonance in the power steering sytem somewhere caused by something not quite right in the tolerance department of the peristaltic pump. My remedy is to turn up the radio.

Don't know anyone in Manchester but your local Bosch dealer might be able to help. My 2007 Octavia 2.0 Tdi does exactly the same thing. The guage contents and range go to zero. I can make it all work again by dropping the clutch, switching it all off while under way and then re-starting using the starter motor and re-engaging the drive. All is good for a few minutes then it all goes down again. The people who have serviced our Audis, Skodas and SEAT over the years don't believe me because it never mis-behaves while they have it. It's been going on now for six months or more. Damned nuisance!
