I'm hoping that it is the wheel bearing. No change whether in gear or not. Noise increases with speed. Fingers crossed!

Hiya, I have heard ggod things about you guys on this forum so hope you can help? I have got a 51 plate Skoda Octavia 1.8t 4x4 estate with about 100,000. I absolutely love it but it seems to have a problem. There is an intermittent groaning / whirring which seems to come from the front half of the car. I first noticed it when a came off the throttle and the car was slowing down with engine breaking. It also does it when I am in neutral. I was hoping that someone has experience of this or any suggestions as to what it may be and what it might costs to fix? Many thanks
