  1. Is there a way to lock all the doors with the key only? I've tried holding it in the left position in the driver door but no luck. Any ideas how I can manually lock one of the rear doors? I had charged the battery over the week and used it last Saturday - it wouldn't turn over today. When I got in the interior bulbs and indicators were flashing. Possibly something related to the alarm?
  2. Yeah I was thinking of using a large washer to keep it secured - assumed the plastic part wouldn't be too expensive if I could find it! I'll grab some washers tomorrow and see if that does the trick! Thanks for the help! Edit, can't find many (mostly in China) but the part is called "SLAM PANEL AIR INTAKE DUCT GUIDE": https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1K0805971C-Air-Intake-Guide-Inlet-Duct-Fit-for-VW-Volkswagen-Golf-Jetta-Mk5-Mk6/262873528433
  3. Hey DJSmiley, Thanks for the response - It's the petrol 2 litre TFSi! Cool I'll have a search for "air intake duct". Here are some pics!
  4. tl;dr - The airbox housing isn't attached to the car frame/body - I need a new piece to replace it but don't know the name or part number of it. My Octavia has had a knocking noise issue for a while now - I took it to my local mechanics and they tried a breaker/pry bar out to see if it was any of the bushes etc. with no avail. The other day I was investigating the battery issue I'm having with a friend (battery is dead after sitting for 5-7 days) and noticed that with the bonnet open and the engine starting the air box isn't attached to the car properly and it shakes violently inside the engine bay. I've circled it below in the image - but there should be two screws that go through the plastic of the housing into the body of the car. On my plastic air box the plastic where the screws would go through have come off. So the screws are in the body and the box is not attached at all. I suspect this is what is causing the knocking noise. Does anyone know the part number so I can replace it? I'll get some proper pictures later if it's not clear! Cheers!
  5. Nice one, yeah thought so as the AUX was missing! Cheers Rustynuts - cool will definitely have a look when I get home tonight. When I was looking earlier the only thing I could find was the speed volume thing!
  6. Hello! So I've been a happy owner of a Skoda Octavia petrol VRS mk2 06 for a month or so! (There was a lot of fuss with the dealer because of some problems with it but they're resolved now.) So the VRS I have has the Columbus system - if someone can shed some light that would be great: - Parking sensors - there are some fitted, when I shift into reverse the Columbus screen goes black and says is it safe etc but the music volume doesn't quieten down - I have to do that myself. Does that mean the sensors were fitted after? Is there a way to get the music volume to go down automatically? I had a look in the settings and couldn't see anything. - Aux in - The Columbus has a CD Changer connected to it but the quality is not very good when playing music off the CDs in the changer, I've read on the forum that it's to do with a jumper and there is a link to a VW wiring loom instruction thing. I'd like to get an AUX set up, the option to turn on AUX in the Columbus menu is there but there is not AUX port in the central armrest. I'm thinking of: - Getting this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUX-in-Audio-Input-Cable-Adapter-For-Skoda-Superb-Octavia-Bolero-Columbus-RNS510-/122032558818?hash=item1c69b512e2:g:v6oAAOSwZ1BXdlp0 - And this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-SoundSync-Bluetooth-handsfree-compatible/dp/B0177T3OEU/ So that I can stream music over bluetooth? Would this mean that I won't have the ability to use the CD Changer (not an issue). I've tried to search for the above questions but can't find anything specific! Thanks!
  7. Just took it for another drive and can't always get it to make the sounds. I kind of think it sounds like ABS trying to kick in.
  8. So I finally bought an Octavia from an independent dealer and drove it home yesterday. 2 test drives prior to that I wasn't hearing any noises when driving it. On the way home however was a different story. I hear a clunk noise if I lift off the clutch abruptly when stationary in reverse, first or second. If I lift the clutch up slowly and match the revs I don't get the noise. I also get the noise when I'm in gear then put the clutch in and out quickly. Like doing 30 in forth. When I got home I took it to my local mechanic (who is awesome) and had a look under the car at the dog bone(?) and the got a bar out to see if any bushes were dodgy etc. he said it would be hard to diagnose the issue and could be a case of trial and error. Has anyone experienced this or know something that it could be? I've read that it could be the DMF or gearbox housing? It comes with a warranty but I should be able to take it back to the trader anyway to get it sorted, or even get a refund. Waiting for him to call back at the moment.
  9. Cheers for having a look! I put a deposit down today, picking it up on Wednesday. Its getting a full service, cambelt (water pump and tensioner), the tcs light sorted, a blemish/bubbling paint on the front bumper done, tints removed (they were beginning to bubble), new aerial and the rear wiper arm to be fixed. I didn't hear the noise this time, I checked before and after the test drive. Strange. Raised the point with the dealer - getting it regassed and will test again when I pick it up! Excited!
  10. Thanks for the responses, not sure how to multiquote on mobile! So the wiper motor, I'll try it out tomorrow - hopefully it can be fixed for the sale price. Is the blower motor a cheap fix? I'll see what its like tomorrow when the car is idling, I didn't test it out properly when the car was stationary. Thanks for the information on the stereo, that will be enough. Only reason I'd be interested in the Bluetooth streaming is to listen to Spotify.
  11. I'm going to take it for another test drive and have a look at it tomorrow morning! I'll find out what part it is, but apparently they ordered a part and it will be fixed! It will fail an MOT if the light is on correct? Glad the stereo is a good one, that should be fine with me - I'd ideally like to be able to stream music over bluetooth with my phone - is that possible? Any idea about the noise when the blower is on? Read online that maybe it's leaves or something? Any other common faults? If it was A/C related would that noise come from the engine bay?
  12. Zoomed in - it's a Columbus system - is it easy to put music on there? I see there is an SD slot for that!
  13. Hi all! So my car search has led me here for some advice, I did have my heart set on a Golf GTI but for similar money I can get a better specced VRS! So I've decided I'd like the TFSI VRS - I've seen this car and test driven it: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201605264337511 He's offering a very good part exchange price on my current car so am very tempted by it in terms of value. It drove well - things I noticed were: - With the cooling fans on there was a noise/whine from near the glovebox, was told this was normal... - The Traction Control light was on - the dealer said that it was "most likely" a sensor that would need to be fixed, and they'd do it before selling it. Could this be a bigger issue than something simple like that? - Rear tinted window seems to be film and is beginning to bubble/peel - how much would it set me back to get that off and a new tint applied? - Front Skoda badge looks damaged/corroded - Interior wise it was okay - what do you think of the stock speaker setup in the car? Does it perform well? I'm not sure what kind of stereo (has sat nav) this one has and I don't know whether it was an uprated speaker system that the ad claims - The white part of the seats looked a bit filthy - do they clean up well? Thanks all!
