I can get 55MPG for 20 miles of motorway cruising at 60MPH with occasional squirts for overtaking. I reckon on a long flat run and no right foot action I could hit 60MPG no problem.

I think it's possible. I'd ask the prospective dealer as they may encourage or avoid the practice.

Literally every car on sale will see real world economy much lower than EU test results.

I've gone the other way from a Fabia (top spec) to an Octavia. Whilst the difference internally is slight, the whole ride feels more refined and comfortable. The suspension is harder with much less role and it is quieter all round. I cannot see you gaining a significant increase in fuel efficiency that would negate the loss off space/comfort.

I would have expected anything like this to be apparent on a test drive. It really isn't a problem.

Excellent. It pulls very well in 6th but it'll happily do 80+ in 4th if you want to make a quick manoeuvre. Economy wise I get 45-50MPG but that's up and down hills a lot too. I also tend not to sit at 60MPH in the inside lane.

Even the same journey every day can be massively variable. As it was half term there was less traffic which had an influence on it.

Got it now and did on my Fabia also, not really a problem.

Always comfortable for me but only ever done an hours driving so far.

This may be confirmation bias, but I put some premium octane 98 in my 1.4TSI and have noticed a nearly 10% increase in efficiency.
