  1. Andrew Davison of North East Auto Tech is very good if your close to there https://www.northeastautotech.com/
  2. Your engine is CAYC. How long have you had the car? Do you know if it has had the software update? If it has, the regens of the DPF are more frequent. Id say every 100 miles or so rather than every 300-350 miles. Im sure there will be loads of threads on this. By the time your DPF light has came on, your car has already tried to regenerate a few times and failed. (software updated or not) and is telling you to take it for a run. During every attempted regen, extra fuel is injected into the engine. If this sequence is interrupted (when you turn the engine off & the regen fails) that fuel is left in the engine and leaks down past the pistons and enters your oil. Hence the possible extra oil when you withdraw it. It is said that when using an oil pump, not all oil is withdrawn and a little is left in the bottom. Dont forget to change the filter and get that little extra from where the oil filter goes during oil changes. I see it was your first oil change yourself using an oil pump. Well done 👍 It took me a while, but for the last 17 years now i have been doing these myself on a variety of cars with an oil pump/extractor. As Warrior 193 says, use the amount going back in as a rough guide only. You may as people say, have a little which cant be removed. Thats fine. Fill to the top level on the dipstick then start the engine for a bit, let it run through, only around 20 seconds or so, then leave it and check it again after around 30mins. Top up to the max again as necessary. Enjoy your car, its a cracking engine if looked after correctly.
  3. Cookiemonster, you say it was serviced in June this year. It is possible that they have updated the software of your car to what they call the “fix” file to address the alleged cheating emissions software. This version of “updated” software actually puts all of the components of your engine under unnecessary extra stress and causes regens much more frequently and drastically reduces the life and reliability of your car. Has this behaviour been been a significant change from what you knew prior to the service? The app Cmcm789 mentions is very good. It’s called vag dpf. Available on android only. You need an elm327 Bluetooth adapter for the obd port. I use the Carista adapter. I have a 1.6 Tdi cayc and use it all the time to know when to take the car for a short drive to allow it to Regen. It also tells you your software version.
  4. Great read, you have a lovely car, loving all the little touches.
  5. You mentioned possible turbo concerns too. The best you can do to look after that is keep it exercised well with movement throught the rev range when warmed up of course. All the soot is better off blown out than clogging up the vanes. it also coats the inside of your exhaust to prevent it rusting from inside out. Make sure the engine is serviced every 10k with correct spec oil, easy and cheap to do. Also use decent fuel. I did notice the difference in mine with shell v power. Not wanting to start a supermarket/vpower argument though!!!! Im happy with my 1.6 tdi so far despite its extra baggage but I do miss the reliability and bomb proof 1.9!
  6. A 1.9 TDI looked after is a great engine. I had one in a golf tdi which i owned since 2003 and still do. Its parked up sorn'd now as I have a 1.6 tdi octavia hatch. If my 1.9 was in an octavia elegance estate, id still have it now as the lack of space was one of the main reasons i got an octavia to replace the golf. I prefer the 1.9 tdi though. It just goes on and on forever. I parked mine up at 134k miles last year. Id be a bit concerned if it was a BXE, but not too much. Id say you still have a good 50k on your engine easy, then it may need things like clutch/DMF. (sign of dmf going is shaking a little out of time now and again on idle tickover which just gets more frequent) May be worth factoring in the timing belt etc. I had standard bilstein b4 shocks (not sport) replace my worn suspension. They were a very reasonable price at the time and very comfortable. Your lack of cold air could just be it needing a re-gas and service (not top up). Id advise giving the car a good thrashing now and again. I learned to live with sticking turbo vanes which came and went but probably caused by me not thrashing the car as you say you dont. I have learnt alot about DPF's and their problems since owning one. Its becoming more and more unlikely to get a decent (un-fixed if you know what that is) one as time goes on. Id factor in the costs of keeping yours going against what you could get as a replacement for your budget. If a nicely specced low mileage elegance estate came along in a 1.4 petrol i would be considering that over my current 1.6 tdi
  7. Id actually like to raise my standard octavia to that of a scout. If not do-able, a 4x4, but id be concerned about cambers being all out. Would it not be the same lowering a scout? Problems with the cambers and angle of the wheels on the road? Surely theres more to a scout than just higher springs for the ride height and suspension?
  8. In my experince, when the dealer is discussing the service with you, the offer of either a courtesy car or lift is always there. Then you find the next few available service slots, the courtesy car is booked out, and the waiting list for it then becomes another couple of months for your service if you want a courtesy car. Also the promise of the lift when you drop your car in is always there. When you arrive, you have to again ask for you lift, and it then becomes a bit of an inconvenience, erm, erm we were not told etc. Maybe thats just me. Theres always something with disappoints every single time I have been to a dealer.
  9. I have a golf with the 1.9 tdi engine. Its gurgled for as long as i can remeber when i turn the engine off. It has climate control too if thats relevant. All water levels are fine and theres no leaks. Dont think its a problem unless theres other issues along with it.
  10. Hi Haz, Hope your well. Can you just walk away from the WBAC deal at any time if they start to knock you down too much or are you committed to selling to them when you meet up? WBAC route is very convenient to get rid but you have to be prepared for the lower price. Depends on how fast you need to sell it also. Its remaining MOT and honesty might get a buyer from here but not many are local to Newcastle.
  11. Your DPF may be deleted from the ECU but has the car been told not to attempt any regenerations now that you dont have the DPF? You say that it overheats when going up inclines and revving. This sounds like the conditions which cause enough heat to do a passive regeneration during normal driving. If there is no soot to burn off as the DPF is now gutted, it may be trying to burn off whats not there. Id research who done the DPF delete work and telling the ECU its not there. They may not have altered the mapping to ignore the regeneration processes. There are passive regenerations when conditions allow (engine under load/revs/incline driving etc.) There are also active attempts at regeneration based on miles covered (approx 466), distance (900 odd minutes), and the recorded soot level. If you have no soot level anymore in the DPF, it may still attempt active regens on miles and distance, as well as attempting passive regens.
  12. What ages are your cars which have these failing regulators? Mk4 golfs were prone to the plastic window clips breaking and the wires pinging off and windows dropping into the door. That was 1997 to 2005 ish. I would have hoped they improved the design for later cars as it was a well known and documented problem. Kits were available with uprated metal clips for the Golf.
  13. Great news well done hope it continues to go well for you.
  14. Any further on this Razzertrevor? Is it going ok now?
  15. wise decision with the update. With my old 1.9 tdi pd vane problem I used additives, mainly forte, and gave it a good hiding which did it the world of good. Never fully went away though. I hope i dont get the same problem with the 1.6 cr. I do now believe they need regularly driven hard to blow out the crap. I didnt do that with my 1.9 early on and im sure thats how i got problems. Always use premium diesel now too as thats a massive difference in my opinion, but dont want to start a discussion on the differences between premium and standard diesel as its been done to death.
  16. Do some research on it see what comes up. I do this all before i make the purchase, Check the usual government website for mot histories, they now also display the garages details which did the mot. Ring skoda uk and ask what history and work it has had done on record on their systems. Then ring the skoda dealers direct and ask for the service departments. Ask exactly what history they have for work they have done on the car. This will also hopefully put your mind at rest with you being unsure what it has & hasnt had done at the dealer. I found out alot with mine doing this I would never have known, like records for battery replacement, warranty work, and even checked for suspected problems when no faults were traced, which were not listed in the history.
  17. Does the 1.6tdi cr have the same variable vanes in the turbos as the old 1.9 tdi pd engines? I have had that on my old golf, with sticky vanes but not yet on the 1.6tdi cr. Has your car had the vw emissions "fix" software update? may be worth checking as thats caused quite a few problems. You can do a simple search online and put you vin into the skoda website to see if its had the fix or not.
  18. Has your octavia had the VW emissions software update applied? Already done before you bought it perhaps? Worth checking incase it has. http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/dieselinfo/check-your-vehicle Frequent regens and start stop error are signs of the Emissions software fix causing problems. If it hasnt been done, the general advice is not to get it done.
  19. Spot on.. How did it go did they explain much about the process to you? Which software version from/to etc? Keep posted on your progress now its removed. Hopefully you will notice a massive difference
  20. Razzertrevor:- VAG DPF app is great I use it all the time very informative. Sorry I have no idea of anyone near you who can do the emissions roll back, you would have to do some searching and make enquiries with local companies.
  21. Post up your progress on getting it sorted. From what I hear, dealers refuse outright stating that they cannot reverse it. However, independent tuners can obtain the original files and roll the software back to exactly how it was. Prices I have heard may be approx £100 for the software roll back but they tend to offer re-maps for a discount within the same deal. Make sure your software is rolled back prior to any remap as a remap on top of the emissions "fix" software doesnt solve anything. It has to be rolled back. Personally Id get it rolled back by a reputable tuner only and not bother with any remap. Cheaper, and back how it should be.
  22. Thats the other option people are using. Getting rid. If you take it to a dealer they will deny the fix causes any issues. They are all working to a script.
  23. Razzertrevor, I think there lies your problems. Mine hasnt been done and is not going to be. Do some searching online theres massive problems. Theres a facebook site dedicated to people with these issues. Their aim is to lobby VW to take responsibility for what they have done & therefore they dont discuss ways to sort it out. Id say the only way to sort it out is have an aftermarket specialist company revert the software back to the version prior to the update. Before it causes too much damage to your engine and its associated parts.
  24. Check on this site by putting the chassis number in to see if its had the update:- http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/dieselinfo/check-your-vehicle
  25. Razzertrevor, seen your other posts in the VAG DPF thread, How long have you had your Superb? Has it had the emissions software update? This is causing alot of people massive problems with regens more frequently than they were prior to the software update.
