Apologies to everyone that has been trying to use the guide I produced. VW have taken all instances of the portal down. Skoda's POI portal has been broken for some time. After a bit of research i've come across this on the Seat forums: https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/uploading-speed-camera-pois-tail-of-woe-vw-pulled-the-update-site-again.444799/ I haven't had time to test; but it appears that this works. Once I get chance to play with this, i'll update the guide accordingly. For now, if anyone is looking for a solution to the POI loading problem, this is (currently) your best shot.

CarPro PERL; it's an SiO2 based fluid that can be used on tires and plastics (great for engine bay dressing). It leaves a kind of satin finish on the tires and lasts at least a week in damp conditions.

Yeah I figured it was to do with emissions. Shame my spare litre in the boot is a different viscosity :/

Just had my diesel vRS in for first variable service, and noticed on service sheet that the oil used was shell helix 0w30; now the manual states 5w30. Spoke to dealers and they informed me that Skoda have changed the spec. I can't find any info on this and figured this was best place to ask.

Amundsen 17/18 Sat Nav Update..... Plz Help!!
bomski replied to PhillyM88's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Forgot about that; used a generic card to load some POIs... Yeah they use a custom cert embedded in the firmware to decode the data for the stereo. Ignore suggestion 1 -
Amundsen 17/18 Sat Nav Update..... Plz Help!!
bomski replied to PhillyM88's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Here's a couple of things you can try: Use any 32Gb SD card (or a 16Gb if you have one); just use the 'quick format' option in Windows and it should be good to go. Redownload the map files from the Skoda Portal (could be corrupt data you downloaded; unlikely but possible) Check the stereo without any SD card inserted functions properly. -

There's a typo in the URL, I'll get it updated shortly, in the meantime use this link to get to the VW portal: http://webspecial.volkswagen.de/infotainment/de/de/manuals/nav-companion.html?d1=discoverpro&type=poiNavigation

Front / rear badges: part numbers?
bomski replied to bomski's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Thanks norsko; I removed the original badge a while back and the part number was as mentioned above. I bought some badges off eBay (official, but for a yeti) but they don't have the curve to them like the originals. -
Does anyone know the rear emblem badge part number? I know the front is 3V0 853 621A but was unsure whether the rear is identical or not. Cheers,

My usual routine is to apply snow foam then pressure rinse once it's dwelled for a while. I've never once considered manually removing snow foam from under the wipers and have always pressure washed that area with no apparent issues. Re: the honeycomb grille; are you referring to the one in front of the intercooler? If so that's also an area that can be pressure washed.

Reccomendations for a newbie wanting to take the next step!
bomski replied to Ally_bassman's topic in Styling and Car Care
I recently purchased a DAS6 Pro from Shop n Shine; came with some Hexlogic pads and some Scholl Concepts compounds for £209. It's a great piece of kit and after owning a Porter Cable random orbit polisher I can certainly say it's a far better machine. -

Hoping to become an Octavia owner but disappointed
bomski replied to superby03's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
The second car (Fabia) was listed as having cruise control, despite it not being on the spec sheet. Cruise is usually an option because lots of areas in the UK are residential and therefore cruise is impractical. I'd contact a dealer to discuss your needs before you make a decision. -

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/skoda/octavia/skoda-octavia-1-6-tdi-cr-se-5-door-dsg/7157633#/description I'd give these guys a call and ask if the SE has cruise control as it seems to be fairly well specced already. Regular cruise control can be retrofitted (AFAIK); adaptive cruise control can't... Failing that, the Simpsons Skoda site lets you filter cars that have cruise control (use refine search, advanced, cruise control)... http://www.simpsonsskoda.co.uk/used-vehicles/7433261-skoda-fabia-1.2-tsi-monte-carlo-dsg-5dr-start-stop/ -

Sat Nav / Entertainment system Stolen
bomski replied to johnmuff's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Reckon if they want it, they'll just tear around the dash to get at it... I'm considering getting a forensic DNA marking kit. Might be enough of a deterrent; but then again... https://www.selectadna.co.uk/dna-asset-marking/selectadna-vehicle-kit -
