  1. @DeanVRS20VTThank you very much Dean for your reply and input. My initial thought was that after they programmed the transmission after its reconstruction that something went wrong with the 'programming' that caused this. Seeming as it was fine before the repair and now like this after the repair. I thought this because when you turn it on, for very brief milliseconds, I see the gears displayed as before, and then change to the current all highlighted display. Will search in the pinned useful parts thread to see if I can find out the part number of the small display. Just to confirm it is only soldering that is required, nothing needs to be reprogrammed, is this correct? Thank you very much for your help,
  2. Hello there from the caribbean :), My Skoda Octavia is: Skoda Octavia mk1 (TOUR) 2006 1.9 TDI 8V turbo, diesel 66 kW (90 PS) Engine Code: ALH Trans. Code: FDB 171,000 km I wanted to ask your opinion concerning a repair I had recently done in my car. The automatic transmission was doing strange things, The car would be running and out of the blue the car would shift gears into 1st gear, by itself and the car would slow down abruptly, I don't know the name in english for this behavior but I am trying to describe it. Very dangerous behavior when it happened to me running the car. Fortunately I was not driving at high speed. The mechanic told me the transmission needed reconstruction because of the age of the car. Change of transmission fluids, etc. The mechanic did that and apparently reconstructed the transmission and then took it to a place to be programmed for the car. The car seems as normal and the gears shift automatically like it should but there is a difference from before in the instruments panel. Before, all the gears were listed and the only the gear highlighted with a square was the gear that was currently selected on the gear Lever. Pic Bellows it was originally. After the repair and transmission reconstruction, the instruments panel is like in the following Pic. All of the gears are highlighted and nothing changes even if you change the lever. I can see briefly when I turn on the car that the display is like before, but in a fragment of a second it changes to all of the gears being highlighted. (Pic below) Is this something that presents a problem for the car? and that I should be worried about or is it only aesthetic? Searched the forums but could not find a similar thread so had to make a new one. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Best, Jame
  3. Thank you so much John & Ken for your reply.. knowing that it is not a PD engine, of the VW 505.00 series ( I assume it is an oil form this series that I need?) Which one would you recommend? I do short trips during the week and one long trip back and forth once a week aprox 270 km both ways. Passenger car diesel engine oil specification, minimum performance level CCMC PD-2. Lists viscosities SAE 5W-50, 10W-50/60, 15W-40/50, 20W-40/50 requiring 13% max. evaporation loss and SAE 5W-30/40, 10W-30/40 requiring 15% max. evaporation loss. Best
  4. Thank you Bigjohn for your input, but as per Stickymicky's reply on this thread, he says that my ALH is not fitted with PD injection system. (see below) How could I confirm that I don't have PD, and if I don't have PD, which ones of the 505 00 series should I use? thank you for your time..
  5. Sorry for being so lost... I appreciate your help... attached is a screenshot from the manual..
  6. I understand, thank you for the info, so then it would been of these... VW 505.00 Passenger car diesel engine oil specification, minimum performance level CCMC PD-2. Lists viscosities SAE 5W-50, 10W-50/60, 15W-40/50, 20W-40/50 requiring 13% max. evaporation loss and SAE 5W-30/40, 10W-30/40 requiring 15% max. evaporation loss. This is from the helpful site that StickyMicky posted. Of these which one would you recommend? I am trying but don't understand how I should know which one of these to choose.. :( Best, James
  7. Thank you, I think I am understanding more... According to the site this is the oil that I need to use, an oil with this specification.. am I right? VW 505.01 Special engine oil for VW turbodiesel engines with pump-injector-unit and for the V8 Commonrail turbodiesel engines. Meets ACEA B4 SAE 5W-40 specification. Just wanted to confirm with you before I go out and buy the amount for the oil change. They recommend here to change it every 4,000 km to be on safe side.. Thank you.
  8. Thank you so much for your reply, how can I find out that specification? which one would you recommend I use considering age and km of my Octavia Tour? I really love my car, and want to take care of it so it last me a long time.. best
  9. Hello there from The Dominican Republic, a fellow Skoda Owner I hope everybody is getting ready for a nice holliday season. I wanted to ask your opinion on engine oil. My Skoda is a: Skoda Octavia mk1 (TOUR) 2006 1.9 TDI 8V turbo, diesel 66 kW (90 PS) Engine Code: ALH Trans. Code: FDB It has 155,000 km When I bought the car, the person was putting in an engine oil 15W40. I bought the car about 2 years ago, and I kept putting that same oil, I live in the caribbean where it is tropical / hot. They said that it was the right viscosity. I did some research now and I find online the recommendation of doing the oil change with 5W30. Which one is better? Considering km on car, age of car etc... I do an oil and filter change every 4,000 km. As time goes by and the car gets older, do the oil type stays the same or you have to change viscosity of oil used to take into consideration the age of the car? Thank you very much beforehand for reading this and any help you can offer. Also, do I need to use a chemical / product to put in the tank to clean the cat, turbo, valves etc and other parts that need it?? James
  10. Hi there, I have a Skoda Octavia Tour TDI 1.9. My car was recently repaired from a front and back accident. I was still and got hit from behind and the impact made me crash in front, as there was traffic. The fixed the boot, but now when I close my boot, the open boot light on my dashboard stays on, regardless. Sometimes the light works, and sometimes it doesn't even though I am certain that the boot is properly closed. Should I check the plugs? I don't know exactly where they are on the car. Was thinking of spraying contact cleaner on the plugs, or even on the sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,
  11. Hi there, Just in case, I can't remember specifically which fuse now, but if this one is out / damaged, the fans start right away with the ignition off. Hopefully you have sorted this out.
  12. Hello there, I am James and I've just bought my first Skoda!! Skoda Octavia tour 1.9 TDI 2006 Engine code : ALH 130K KM I am super happy with it and with this community which shares so much information. Many thanks and glad to be a part of it. Best, James
  13. Hi there, Greetings from Dominican Republic! I have one question, been getting a related code with VCDS P3130 (EGR) Limit Exceeded I have a Skoda Octavia tour 1.9 TDI 2006 Engine code : ALH My EGR is leaking fromt the side, the mechanic said he took it off and cleaned it and put it back, I don't think he put new seals or anything like that, then erased the codes, but the CEL light came back on within days. The EGR is visibly leaking, but I have read on this thread that if you take it off to clean and then put back on again, it needs to be 'readapted' with VCDS? I don't think the mechanic did that, he just erased (reset) the codes. I am planning to take off the big pipe that goes into it from turbo just to see if I can visually inspect that the diaphragm is in fact moving (opening and closing) if I turn the engine one without the pipe. Although I don't have a lot of mech knowledge, thanks to Briskoda I am learning about this problem as I have just bought this beautiful car, I am although thinking of replacing the hose that goes into the EGR, as I can see that it is a bit damaged (lots of strings from the weaving have come of) as the local Skoda Distributor in the country wants aprox $600 US for a replacement valve, I just want to see if it is a leak of air that is setting the code, and to be 100% sure that I have to ABSOLUTELY replace it. Many thanks in advance, James
