Ah, thank you JR . Gives me some idea anyway . My car appeared to be first in the Q and its four hours in now and Ive heard nothing yet, so my purse is starting to tremble lol! Fingers crossed its something simple and not too expensive . Nearly melted in it the other week , so I dread to think what it must be like in France if ones AC goes. I remember from holidays the murder of getting into the car after a shopping trip till you get going and the AC kicks in . and of course its even hotter over there these days with global warming .

Sorry to cut in on OP's post , but my car is in the local garage today with my aircon being looked at . All I know about AC is what Ive just read above in this thread, so not a naturally technically minded person. Hes supposed to be coming back to me before repairing as Ive no idea of costs. . What sort of costs am I looking at for a couple of the most common scenarios of what could be wrong with it please if thats not an impossible question. When I switch on the ordinary blower on hot and cold seems ok , but nothing further kicks in when I press the AC .

thanks all.

Thanks all. Ive never driven a car with no handbrake before , my old Octavia which I still have, has one and Im well used to it . How difficult do you reckon it will be to get my head round the lack of one, in my first trip out , to the garage a few miles away ? ( I am insured for it btw incase you wonder)

Good afternoon all. Sad circumstances have led to a 3yr old little used Skoda Superb being parked up outside , untouched for about 3 .5 months. It is going to need a service and MOT after Xmas .Can anyone advise me please whether Im likely to damage anything by just starting it up to drive straight to a dealer / garage ? Ive been told by someone (not a mechanic) that its possible it should have special handling /preliminaries done first. (beyond oil tyre and lights checks ) , or I could damage the engine. It has at least half a tank of diesel in it.

Not impressed! New turbo at 27k miles!

Think we're going to let it go now to be honest , asking for the parts now, having been lying round in a garage where oil could have been splashing around -----etc :p wouldnt really be conclusive anyway, and it could well be that weve just been unlucky --- or lucky one could argue that its been picked up now rather than at an inconvenient time in the future . The situation sounded less dodgy after I read The Clients post back to myself. Dont really want to fall out with the garage when we might be being very unjust. -

Oops, doubt he'll be singing the praises of the AA to his mates . Shortsighted I think of the AA .Presumably though the turbo is under guarantee. Disappointing though when you have a new car. -

Hopefully you're right The Client, I think we maybe just got a bit paranoid after having a radiator go on a fairly new car, and now a turbo at such a ridiculously low mileage ----- re the photos, it doesnt take much lack of faith to wonder if they are even of our turbo. However, I guess we have to just get over it now , and hope we havent been fleeced . Thanks for the replies everyone. -

Not sure that these say much to help - should have had a look at the parts at the time . To be fair, OH has had the car out today for a run and says it does feel as if its running slightly better (not that it was noticeably below par before ) -

Morning all. To answer the questions in one go -- yes we have had the car from new and its only been driven by us. The mileage is genuine. It did fail on emissions -- apparently the turbo had leaked oil into the engine , so burnt oil in the emissions . The garage was a local VAG specialist , we thought we would try out for a service. It was due an MOT. They dont do MOTs themselves and took it to a general garage on the same estate. May just have had the one MOT charge , will have to check the breakdown again, but its not that part thats worrying. They send some photos after OH requested which Ill try and post later. -
My OH took my 2009 estate for its MOT and service - and it failed . No symptoms of anything wrong beforehand . We had expected probably to have to shell out more as it got older, but it was a shock when the garage said it needed a new turbo !! Its a second car , so only done 27k miles - the garage said they too were surprised as usually the turbo doesnt go before 80 kmiles .So - today Im £1300 lighter -- new turbo, service , and 2xMOT's. What with shelling out a pile for a new radiator for our Feb 2016 Octavia est in Summer, Im not impressed with Skoda at the moment . Anyone else heard of a turbo going so early ?

Urgent messages on Infotainment screen.
Yop replied to Yop's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Absolutely right - even down to road closures. Round here , the road closure /diversion signs always seem to be put up a few days before necessary , and left a day or two after the job's finished , so people have noticed this and tend to ignore them - then somewhere along the line you get car after car having to turn around . -

Yes, I guess what you both say is correct . Thanks . We thought it must be something major, but googling over the next 24 hours didnt show anything up , so I guess the situation was sorted out pretty quickly thank goodness before a pile up could take place . Reckoned the offenders must have been travelling pretty smartish if we needed a warning when we were still that far away. -
When we were in France on holiday, suddenly a message flashed on the small screen directly infront of driver (not infotainment one) " Warning ! Vehicles travelling wrong direction down motorway " and proceeded to name three road numbers and name of town or village where incident was nearest to . None were the paid motorway we were on so we didnt pay too much attention until the same message a minute or two later, flashed onto the Infotainment screen -- which was already switched OFF ! Bit startled , looked up the details and found it was about 40 miles away. Question is, how is a switched off Infortainment system, showing a message ?

Thanks Meta - will get onto that and see what they got .
