  1. Cant tell you anything about the car itself other than this much DVLA Vehicle Online Seems to be a cracking price too definitely well worth a view IMO
  2. Yes agreed and really an air pressure test would be the way to go which any main dealer and most good garages can do for you
  3. mmmm indeed ! Leave well alone would be my advice and im not so sure that this is the right thing to be asking here either For what the software is going to cost you even if you do manage to find someone who has it you could spend on getting one of the many good mappers to do it for you
  4. An upto 10BHP increase over standard is a very over optimistic claim but is something that all these companies tell us In the past ive used kits from green K&N pipercross and currently a carbonio and out of the lot the carbonio gives the best intake noise An increase in BHP on there own though mmmmmm nothing noticeable but its the same as all mods a bit here and a bit there plus a remap makes all the difference
  5. The fuse is F13 and its 10A (red) worth a look but i tend to agree with Stu more likely to be the switch
  6. Just out of interest how does one go about sucking the oil out from the sump through the filler cap ? Do they have a machine especially for this purpose
  7. An extremely good point Kenny and a common fault from what ive seen on the octy`s Mine did the same and i didnt know why it was getting so damp inside and it was only after finding the boot floor soaking did i find the cause, the rear washer did still work but just didnt have quite the same pressure that it used to, i didnt really think anything of it at the time If you do check this out shunter you will need to remove the CD changer to get to the offending pipe properly
  8. Im yet to find an octy in a scrapyard near me :( but yes scrapyard or ask a mod to move this to the items wanted section you might have more luck there
  9. Yes its all there if yours is the 1.8t there are also other tools required if your doing the job yourself such the locking tool ( Locking Tool Kit - VAG ) not particularly that one but as an example I would also question the quality of the parts supplied at that price too, the cambelt is not something you want to skimp on and personally i would go for original VAG parts with something like this Yes it costs a lot more i was quoted £120 for the kit but at least its quality assured
  10. Yes you can buy a turbo directly from skoda parts i looked into it when mine was playing up As Stu rightly points out though the cost involved is horrendous which forced me to go the way of ebay
  11. Ah i see apologies i read your post as looking through haynes on rebuilding tips I was under the impression and going by boxes ive done in the past that the bell housing just unbolts then just tap it all the way round with a rubber mallet if its sticky but ive not done an octy one so unsure
  12. Has anyone had any experience / used /heard anything about this cataclean stuff ? As my car has done a lot of miles something to help clean up the cat sounds like a good idea but is it just another one of those snake oils ?
  13. First of all hi ! In your place i wouldn't even think about rebuilding the gearbox yourself unless you know exactly what your doing from the off and no mr haynes wont help you much at all although there did used to be haynes manuals that dealt with just gearboxes and engines etc, don't know if there still are as i hav`nt seen them about for quite a while Yes there are some very knowledgeable people here who would be able to assist you with the odd question but cant talk you through a complete gearbox rebuild what's the problem with your box and is there not a reputable someone local to you who could do it for you
  14. You might even get a good deal buying three Always well worth the money with a discount
  15. Had to move one of the horns on mine too but found that by removing the offending object loosening the bracket and turning it 90 degrees it clamped down again on its mount just fine I then turned the horn upside down and bolted it back onto the bracket and that was it, minimum of fuss took five minutes and now nothing in the way of the filter
  16. Yep a well known fact in these here parts :thumbdwn:
  17. I have to agree with what's been said already and the title of the post says it all really Let your conscience decide
  18. A very quick google search came up with this it does explain pretty much how it works And saves me a lot of typing at this hour Remapping the ECU
  19. Any chance of a borrow of your imaginary car cleaning kit cos mines filthy Oh and its definitely grooves forward
  20. If i save anything at all its a bonus 16 quid is still 16 quid not much to many i know
  21. Yes mine has caved in sills at the front jacking points, it wasn't me i hasten to add Very useful looking these and would defo go for it should a group buy come up
  22. My 2000 TDI is at around 230000 ish miles (ex taxi) and is still going very strong inc remap and is still afaik on its original turbo (although i do have a spare just in case) Ive had to strip out the turbo since ive had it due to sooty veins and i service it more regularly than you usually would for obvious reasons Some steering & suspension parts plus the driveshaft CV`s etc ive also done as they were getting a little slack due to its high mileage as Alex rightly pointed out the engine itself though is still good to go with probably just a little more tappety noise than i would like but i can live with that I expect to get a lot more miles out of the old girl yet before i have to think about either a transplant or a new octy (touching lots of wood)
  23. If it were mine i would disconnect the battery leave it ten mins then reconnect and try again remember you need to reset the leccy windows afterwards Unless anyone else has a better suggestion of course
  24. I'm sorry but am i the only one who thinks that was uncalled for and unnecessary ?
  25. Yes i would still recommend them for a remap they definitely know there stuff I don't have the VRS just the standard TDI and as ive said already i was very happy with the results of mine and i cant rule out the possibility of it just being me expecting more or there being some other reason At least if your just round the corner you can easily go back if you do have any kind of problem Will seems very happy to help and answer any questions you might have so why not talk to him first before you book your car in
