  1. Hey there fellow Superverts! Saw this little note on the General section and decided, because I dont know anything about this, to post this here: "This section is for general questions only... If the question concerns a Skoda model, use the model forums." But yeah, my problem is that my Skoda Superb Elegance 2.8L V6 '04 keeps venting all the liquid from the liquid cooling unit through the AC causing the car to over heat. After overheating, I must wait for an hour or two in order for [something] to cool completely and then I can refill the cooling liquid. If not, then I can just as well pour the water on the ground because it seems to go straight through the car when he's too hot... I thought it was a blown gasket but after talking to a mechanic about this today, I found out that the "AC Element" as he called it(Icelanders tend to use weird words over stuff, not the regular names that is), which is probably the Heater Core, as I've read about on the internet, could be at fault and not the gasket. It costs around $5000 dollars here to replace the gasket and time lace(or whatever), replacing those two always seem to go hand in hand since, they figure, they're already tearing this thing apart, why not change that thing too while they're at it? So, in an effort to save around 5k dollars, which is almost as expensive as the car was when I bought it, is there a way I can find out if it's the Heater Core or not? Guarantee it, that is? If the gasket was bust, would the engine also vent hot steam through my AC vents? Or is this a closed case for the Heater Core? Lets say it's definitely the Heater Core, is it a big deal to get to it and replace it? Is the same one in all Skoda/Audi/VW? Or do I have to get a special one for an extra 300 bucks? Anyways, thanks in advance for your answers as I'm counting on them to be satisfactory. Thank you and have a great day Superverting around in your Superbs!
  2. I guess it's too late for that speech... But I guess also that I'm gonna have to have another chat with them about the big hole in my front end, where that light used to be... So I guess we can pull this off! Thanks for the advice!
  3. Yeah. After rear ending that old lady, I guess they'll check everything, in case something is not quite right..
  4. Happy sappy news I've got for everyone! I managed to rear end some old lady who stopped short at a round about... YAY FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!! The liquid steering or what ever it's called went completely by that blow, so did radiator. I guess that's just more **** they've gotta fix on Monday.. For money I don't have... I guess I'm completely Yarised right now...(Don't want to say the F-word so I just said something equally as bad) Here are some pics of how I didn't even make a dent in that lady's car... I guess it's mighty fine since it will come out on my insurance... http://imgur.com/a/vcyGd
  5. Nope not a single warning goes off.. All of a sudden I get some sweet mist into the car through the AC and I must shut her off before I ruin something. Then I open the water tank half way, only half way because it just starts spewing burning hot water all over! And after about 4-5 minutes it's completely empty. The tear is like at the seems, where the tank is put together, you know? So it's kinda high up! Doesn't explain why he seems to leak every drop I put on him afterwards. I poured four liters on him thinking "How deep is this damn tank?" and as I looked behind the car there was a river running from the car and to the street below. I checked as best I could is there was a tear on the water container elsewhere but that doesn't make sens since I have water on her right now as she's standing in the driveway. I even drove on her about 300 maybe 400 kilometers last night, and as long as I just switched her off when I wasn't driving, all was fine. I'm gonna listen for those fans later, the guy I literally just spoke with at the auto garage through the phone told me that's what might be bothering her. Yeah, new tanks are dirt cheap. It's just this little tank made of plastic... Even at the dealership, where they offered me a plastic skid plate for roughly 1100 dollars, this tank is like somewhere around 65 bucks. It's pretty expensive, but it's the dealership we're talking about here, everything is expensive! I don't feel competent to touch any of this stuff.. I just drive the thing, don't tinker with it's insidy parts. Several hours? Lets say 4... That runs me for 480 dollars roughly only for the work.. What with the hour in an auto shop being around 120-130 US dollars.. Man, I hope it's not running lean then... But I love this damn car! It's 200hp! You know how it feels to drive something so powerful? It's like sliding on butter along the asphalt... I'm never going back to 100hp...
  6. She hits 90C after 6km, and just stays there. It's only if I stop for a short while, maybe 5 minutes, that she starts acting weird. But when this happens, she starts boiling, she doesn't seem to show me any notification on the dash or the computer. It isn't until after all the water is gone that she shows some notification of overheating. Even the temp gauge doesn't move when this is happening. Fans? I have no idea about any fans, are they clearly visible if I pop the hood? Is there a way for me to see them by myself without tearing everything apart? It seems that after boiling away all the water on the tank, she refuses to hold water until she has cooled properly.. Had to wait about an hour the other day so I could fill him up and drive away. It was quite embarrassing, I had chicks in the car and we were about to get down to business... But I got some sweet bonding time in even though she broke down, so hooray for me! I'm pretty sure there's a small tear on the water tank, could that be something? Gasket failure? That doesn't sound that great... Is that expensive to fix? I'm in Iceland so just multiply what it costs where you live with about 2-2.5. And running lean? As in she's getting too much oxygen? How is that fixed? Easily? I'm guessing that's a negative... I'm pretty sure the Polish dude that sold me this car is now sitting somewhere in a pile of my/the bank's money and laughing while rubbing the exhaust pipe of my old Octavia... I don't understand all the hassle with this car, the Mayor of Reykjavík, Jón Gnarr drove it around all those years he was in office, and it didn't seem to bother him...
  7. Hey there fellow Superbverts or Super-Perverts as I like to call us guys... lol.. I've got a Skoda Superb '04 Elegance 2.8 V6 that cant seem to idle without overheating. The water on the tank literally boils of him when I open the tank and hot steam begins to come out of the AC... What's up with that? Anyone had similar issues? It's no trouble to drive him around, but whenever stopping for any longer than at a traffic light? He starts overheating like crazy and the steam begins pouring through the AC. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I should note that he's retrofitted with a Methane gas equipment. So I can fill him with Methane and drive around, but it's not that great... It would be great if I lived closer to the Methane stations, I just bought this one because he was 2000-3000 dollars cheaper than the next one above him, not because of the Methane. Thank you and have a great day! Team Skoda for the WIN!
  8. Thanks for the answer, bro. Sorry for a late reply. I'm dead set on getting a sump guard from the UK. They sell them for real cheap, not as expensive as those Danes.. I'm getting a steel ones, transmission and engine. I figure since I'm ordering internationally I better go all out while I'm at it... I asked the dealershipo about their +1000 dollar price on their plastic sump protectors/skid plates and linked those websites, and they haven't responded yet... That was over a week ago lol...
  9. Ahh, that explains some of my searching difficulties hahahaha :P I was apparently very lucky with my Octavia. How about the VW Passat and Audi A4? Since they use the same chassis, shouldn't a plate from either of them work? Or is ther maybe that same problem; no plate at all. EVER! ? Since I didn't find a thing during my extensice searches last night I'm gonna assume that' correct. I actually don't want anything to do with aluminum plating under my car. Since I can vreak the aluminum sump, shouldn't I ne able to break the aluminum plating as well just as easily? The car is automatic and by my fathera account; there's a rather large hole on the engine sump. After posting about thos on a local Facebook site last night, I found out that the Audi/WV/Skoda dealership here custom made about 30 protective platings/sump guards, one for every Superb in the Police fleet. Yeah the cops here use Skodas, that has to say something about quality, right? It's maybe possible to get them to make a sump guard to protect both sumps, since I bet most of those cop cars are automatic. I've already sent them an inquiry about it. Will be expecting an answer the first thing tomorrow. I just hope they're steel and at least 2mm thick. Then I also found this Danish site that's apparently making(?) and selling sump guards for this model. I sent them an inquiry too, don't know when I'll get an answer though. Link to Danish site: http://www.bertelsen.nu/Sheriff/Skoda_k7139.html It would appear on closer inspection and with the new information you provided me about the two seperate sumps, that those they are selling aren't conjoined transmission and engine sumps and I'd have to buy them both seperately if I wish to be fully protected. Is the transmission plating as important as the engine plate? I mean, does the transmission sump stick out as much as the engine sump? Do steel sump guards weigh much? I, probably stupidly, bought a Superb retrofitted to take both gasoline and Metan gas. So there are 3x 55 liter, 60Kg, gad tanks in my trunk, making that huge ass trunk super small hahaha. That's like 180Kg total. And I weigh around 170Kg. It's like I have myself in the trunk, ALL THE TIME! 180Kg is like two full grown, average, men. So, even if alone, I'm driving with two passangers. And last monday I drove it for the first time with 3 passangers. Lets just say that the fuel consumption was extremely high that day... I can actually make around 300-350Km with those tanks full of Metan and around 500-600Km on the gas. So combined, it's like 800-950Km all in all. I guess it's not bad, I just wonder what the "milage" would be if I had carbon fiber tanks that weigh 7Kg each max instead of those half an inch thick stainless steel monsters. Maybe it was a dumb purchade.... Nut the legroom in the passanger seats is amazing!!!! This is a weird ass word btw. Sump. I've written it so often in the last 24 hours that it's starting to sound weirder than it already is.... Anyways, thanks for the helpful post, my friend. You're a real Supervert! EDIT: sorry for the typos I'm not gonna fix. This was written hastily on a phone
  10. Hey there fellow Super(b)verts! I had the unfortunate accident of going to fast onto a speed bump yesterday and now the oil pan, or "sump" as it's apparently called, has this brand new opening on it. On my first car, a '98 VW Golf, this was a major problem as there was no protective plating under the sump. To much relief, I didn't have to spend as much on car repairs for my Octavia, my second car, since it had this protective plating. I just assumed that the Superb would be the same when viewing it at the dealership and simply forgot to ask. Now I must ask, is it possible to get one of those protective plates under the sump on the Superb Elegance 2.8 V6 2004? Is a protective plate meant to be under the car? Or do I need to retrofit it with such plating? And of course; Since the oil pan is called a "sump", what is this protective plating called? Cause I cant find anything if I try to search for it online. I also see that eBay has some nice sumps for around $45, while the official Skoda/VW/Audi dealership here has me paying $300 for just the brand new sump and no work... and that for a 1998 VW Golf. The work hour here costing $130. That makes the total of 430 bucks, just for supplying me with and installing a new sump. That right there's what's breaking my balls. Is the sump I linked to worth the trouble of ordering internationally? Will it hold? Because if I can get it to my door for third of the price a dealership sump costs, I'm sold! What can I say? Money is tight, especially after buying a "new" car and I'd like to handle this myself. I'm 22, turning 23, years old and getting one's parents to bail one out of trouble every time that trouble starts brewing is just getting old. I'd like to be able to pay for everything in this car myself. Because it's my car and I'm the only one who's gonna be driving it. Thanks in advance for your great answers and please let me know if I need to clarify anything for you guys as cars is not my thing hahaha
  11. Apologies, Didn't realize you had them rules about profanity. I always think I'm just posting on Reddit where everything's allowed.. :P Thanks for the editing and I will keep profanity to myself in the future
  12. I've decided, after managing to fix that SAFE thing, only to have the car die on me again and it appearing again, to just contact a dealership and buy a new or "new" smartphone ready radio. If that fits in my 2004 Skoda Superb Elegance.
  13. Hey there, geese I'm kind of a car or just vehicular newbie, don't know anything about any of this stuff. But I'm an eager beaver to learn Recently(Last Monday) bought a Skoda Superb Elegance 2.8 V6, the 2004 model. Couldn't afford anything younger, unfortunately. He's driven around 257.XXX kilometers and is all leathery and sexy. I love driving this car, the only thing I have some beef with is the automatic transmission as I feel as if he sometimes switches gears either too prematurely or too late. But that's only when I'm just flooring it, not when driving at the normal speed of 50-100kmh. Mine is actually a METAN hybrid. So he starts in gasoline and when the coolant water reaches, I think, 40-50°C, he switches to METAN. A METAN car wouldn't have been my first choice unless there was actually a roughly $3.127 difference in the price between this one and the next one above. I'm on disability for my Schizophrenia so I couldn't spend a whole lot on an automobile. Got this one for roughly $6.170. And I feel it's been worth every cent since I bought it. Aside from a little mishap yesterday when something related to the coolant system erupted and now he literally pees water and coolant fluid. The weird thing was that I wasn't aware I had driven a speed bump or something and hit something up under the engine part. But now I just have to carry with me a two liter bottle of water or two and give him something to drink every once in a while. The reason I'm registering here is because I have two issues. One with the cruise control which I just cant seem to wrap my head around and the other with that anti theft security system thingy on the radio. You know, where it says SAFE and no sound comes from the radio. It's pretty damn annoying but it happened after the car ran out of electricity during the whole initial coolant leakage thing and I had to get a start from a professional auto shop who also diagnosed the car with severe bladder control issues. Anyways, I'll make a thread on both of those things. Thank you and have a great day
