  1. That car is a game changer 230miles on a bit over 1/4 of a tank with 370 range left that's with a few spirited over taking. Did have to park a country mile away from the house to find a space big enough but also discovered it's got start stop technology as well which I didn't know about and it still turns the occasional head which is always a nice bonus. Will miss making the exhaust fart on the rocco but that will pass. Happy chappy!
  2. Scotland really is a world class when it comes to roads that really give you the thrill of driving in spades! Around Ballater is fantastic and I can't recommend the Scottish North Coast 500 road trip highly enough. Enjoy your Octavia 3 LaneDiesel.
  3. Yeah really looking forward to picking her up but looking forward to the drive back to Scotland even more! Got all my cds picked out and my dragonfly digital audio converter to test out the Canton stereo. In terms of tips for potential owners do your research and have a clear idea of what you want eg diesel or petrol, dsg or manual, estate or saloon, vrs or standard and mileage is a factor to consider as well but that's a balancing act between cost and how long you plan on running it. Think that covers the basics I'm sure there is more but enjoy the hunt!
  4. Well today is the day I hopefully drive back from Manchester in my fully loaded 2013 TDI VRS Octy Estate Candy White with the Black Design pack. I will post pics later on, once I have downloaded Tapatalk. Any tips for first few days of ownership to get the best out the car would be well received. Happy Motoring!
  5. No worries always worth checking about such things. The forum community has been a great help to me in steering me clear of that dodgy advert which saved me £12,500 so don't want to be a **** and take advantage. Especially since I am getting closer to official Skoda ownership, hopefully picking up on Sunday. so fingers crossed I don't have the joys of running two cars for too long and the R goes quick. Don't suppose you have any experience selling cars on eBay or know of anyone who has? Could be a good way to get my asking price with some frantic last minute bids but want to avoid PayPal fees as they could be asking for £500 Cheers.
  6. Hey VRSAnt yeah I'm a haggis hunter north of the border I do love it and gutted I have to sell but sadly mile per gallon are now priority over smiles per gallon. I have just put it up for sale on PistonHeads and put a deposit down on a fully loaded 2013 VRS Octy  Is it frowned upon to post a link to my advert on the forum? Cheers
  7. It certainly is tempting at 9k with the turbo and supercharged engine it's going to be a very quick wee motor. Might do a bit more research into the engine see what I can find out.
  8. Hey Ubbs they are cracking cars plenty smiles per gallon! Really like the colour of yours not seen many in that colour usually black, white, red or blue. I did the North Coast 500 road trip a few weeks ago cannot recommend it highly enough some of the best roads I've ever driven on and precious little traffic apart from suicidal sheep! Did you have much bother selling yours did you go trade or private?
  9. Completely agree you absolutely need to have faith and trust the individual you are buying a car from especially at this price range. Buying a car can be a complete mine field if you don't have your wits about you.
  10. He does have quiet a good selection of cars and by the looks of it recently sold a RS3 for £44k but defo a chancer and highly unlikely to have planning permission. I'm considering flagging his advert up to trading standards but not sure how interested they would be.
  11. Thought I was on to a winner when I saw the prices they are going for until I read this http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/skoda/fabia-vrs-2010/ That was enough to give me the jitters. Your right though a lot of the time it is down to pot luck. The search continues.
  12. Good stuff thanks for the info Toffee. Just now I'm looking at around £50 to fill up and getting 300-330 as I said. So theoretically I could be getting max 200 miles more maybe 250 if I drive like a sedated Nun per tank and an extra 20+- mpg It is a thinker once you start doing the number crunching. I know like yourself I won't be able to resist the temptation to press the loud pedal more than I should, otherwise I would just buy a 90bhp fabia and get 60mpg and never smile behind the wheel again . Slightly off topic but was also looking at the 2013 Fabia VRS which are selling for 8-9k so could make a tidy profit but heard some horror stories about the engine consuming excess oil and generally going pop, hence why they moved to the Monte Carlo Fabia and discontinued the VRS. Thoughts? Cheers.
  13. I know his advert is an absolute joke from beginning to end. When I confronted him I thought he would maybe change the description but nope. Thing is it is a fairly niche car and the kind of customer who is going to seriously consider buying it is going to do their research and know their stuff. I just feel sorry for the punter who does fall for his BS advert and cough up 12.5K for a dud! Where are trading standards when you need them.
  14. Hey vRSAnt happy to oblige haha I know exactly what you mean. Don't get me wrong I don't really want to sell my R and trying to find all manner of ways to justify keeping it easily the best most fun car I have ever owned consistently turns heads as well which is always nice  but deep down I know it realistically has to go My car details are as follows: 2011 DSG Rising Blue 57k (that will increase as it is my daily driver sitting just below 57K just now) 1 previous business owner Full service history Cambelt and water pump replaced 3/8/16 Major service, MOT and AC serviced 19/7/16 3 Conti Contact sport 6 tyres with plenty life left 1 P Zero with slight damage to tyre wall but still plenty miles left 19" Talladega alloys fairly minor kerb damage on front two rear two absolutely fine. Winter optics pack Bodywork generally excellent condition with some touched up stone chips on the bonnet and a small scratch on front wing. DSG serviced 27/5/15 I think that covers all the essentials. No pics just now waiting to get an opportunity to give it a good clean but can provide pics if required. Cheers.
  15. It is shocking he is getting away with it, I asked him about the lack of heated seats despite claiming it had the winter pack and front sensor for ACC but he didn't answer, all he cared about was if I was interested in buying the car. I'm not.
  16. Hey ToffeeMRD loving the tread. Would I be right in saying it is a 50l tank, costing around £60-70 to fill up and getting 500-600 miles to a tank depending on proportion of spirited to saintly driving with average mpg between 45-50? The reason I ask is I am currently getting a fairly stable 30mpg and around 300-330 miles to a tank in my current car and trying to crunch the numbers to see what kind of savings I can make with the increased fuel economy given by the Octavia VRS. Thanks
  17. Fair point glosrich, I think I was given false hope with the first dealer I spoke with who was willing to give me £12,800 for my car and some cash to walk away with. Sadly that was for an Edition 30 Golf GTI and once my head caught up with my heart I accepted it was not going to be practical or economical enough. There is definitely a lot to be said for doing a deal closer to home if at all possible but there appears to be a drought of used VRS Octavias north of the border. The dealer trying to sell the 77k mile motor called me today and I confronted him about the lack of heated seat buttons despite claiming it had the winter pack and the lack of front sensor for ACC he just deflected the question. He has since increased the asking price by a fiver to £12,500! Thanks but no thanks. lucky escape I was ready to put a deposit down so thank you for your contributions and advice. Buying a new car can be a minefield. Trust no one and question everything.
  18. Yeah that doesn't fill me with confidence. I did notice the by appointment only thing, seems a little pretentious, he isn't trading F40s and original GTOs. That little alarm bell in my head is ringing. One to walk away from I think.
  19. It does seem like a bit of a red herring for want of a better phrase. That's an excellent point about the warranty, either one does not give much peace of mind. Likewise for the service intervals. I phoned a dealer near me in Fife and she said the last service carried out was a minor one. When I asked the seller he said the last service was a major one mmmmm. When pushed on tyres 'all look good' once again mmmmm, There does seem to be a growing case for walking away from this one. One of the many reasons forums are a great resource for us car nuts. I'm about 160 miles away myself so in the annoying position of relying on pictures and second hand car salesman honesty! This was the original contender before I seen the 77K mile motor. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/skoda/octavia/skoda-octavia-2-0-tdi-cd-vrs-in-race-blue/6069835?v=c Trouble is I have been offered a lot less trade-in value for my Scirocco R than I was hoping for ranging from 11.5k to 12.8k. The dealer selling 77k Octavia wanted my car plus £1k! Thanks but you can poop in your hands and clap matey!
  20. Thanks SimonD316 I think you are right sounds like exactly the same car. Should have had a browse before posting another topic. Some interesting points about the car. I've managed to knock him down £250 on the basis the dsg needs serviced and chances are at least 2 new tyres in the not so distant future. Also still has 11 months warranty left. Tempting very tempting.
  21. Hi all new to the forum and was hoping for some advice and thoughts on a potential first time Skoda purchase. Currently driving a Scirocco R but need something more baby friendly etc but not too dull. I have done a lot of research and it certainly seems to tick all the boxes and hardly seen a bad thing said about it. So found this 2014 example on Auto Trader. Looks like a good spec and like the candy white. My only concern is the high mileage (77K) for a 2014 car. I know the DSG will need serviced at 80K and I have had two different quotes for timing belt change intervals 80k or 4yrs and 140k miles or 5yrs. So any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. http://www.asperformanceltd.co.uk/used-cars/skoda-octavia-2-0-tdi-cr-vrs-dsg-5dr-burnley-201607035492943
  22. Hi new to the forum and considering my first Skoda purchase soon, so looking for some advice and thoughts. Currently driving a 2011 Rising Blue Scirocco R but need something more practical but not dull as dishwater. The Octavia VRS estate seems to tick all the boxes! Cheers
