  1. I would not suggest the engine due to the issue xman just explained above. I just sold mt Octavia today, it took very hard 6 long months. Now strugglin about what i can buy...
  2. It sounds okay however the sound you should be checking is the sound right after ignition, you will hear a metallic sound for a second. I would opt against buying that - despite the fact that i like the performance of the engine, there is a big question mark for the future of the engine. There are many members who fitted the latest kit however i believe noone is completely sure if this solution is eternal:)
  3. Ouch, typo sorry, I wanted to say EA111. I test drove a Fabia with EA211 before I bought mine, that was surprisingly good to drive and was one of the reasons I chose TSI before I knew about the defects.
  4. Good luck about that, i really hate when somebody loses his money and nerves over thr manufacturer's fault and get the burden. I do not know how it works in the UK, does it mean you cannot take it to the court? I would do that After i posted a photo of the engine here last winter, one member said that he sees drops of oil next to plastic chain cover. After i checked it with the flash i recognized that there is kind of "sweating" around the chaim cover but the oil level is not going down. Moreover i get some "roaring" sound since march when the car ignites which makes me think that it could be about chain - hope not.( Just after 10k???!!) This happens rarely so it wont be possible to catch it with the mechanic for now. ( I did 10k miles after the whole chain was fitted and have around 65k on the clock) I have not been able to sell or trade it for a reasonable amount since January, might have to keep it as i am becoming angry when i hear some stupid offers. I strongly believe the chain driven model EA211 could be a great engine if they could test it properly and eliminate the design problems before starting mass production.
  5. some old mechanic I used to go - said that he can have a look for the sound, but no time for central lock. they have heard it several times and it comes somewhere close to starter motor - part is called bendix drive. Looks like the start sound and the central lock issue are not connected, I thought it would be about the alternator They checked with me the central lock, they have no clue it works a few times without any problem, then no avail - after 10-15 seconds, it starts to work again.
  6. Ladies and gents Lately i was feeling that somrthing is wrong with central locking When i push the lock button from remote -sometimrs i feel like kinda hesitation or maybe more like a malfunction 1-2 times i hit the lock on the remote and it did not work - after that when i hit, all seemed fine Today i washed the car in detail and then came to the patking lot in tesco and guess what Car wony be locked, got in the car and also the central lock button inside does not response - so its not related eith the remote After a minute of trying it was back again i was able to lock but when i tried continuously, it was not working after a few hit to the remote button and also from the button inside. Right now intermittently the central lock does not react as well when i hit the key and ignite once in a while i hera some kind of sound like cough before car starts. All started to happen 2 days before i was going to sell the car... Any ideas?
  7. Just to add here xman might remember i changed the actuator like a year ago with a German replacement. I have not had any issues but lately i feel like a delay-lag when i push the gas until 2k rpm the same that i had before it failed last year. It s been on sale for a couple of months however no serious offers till now. I will give a visit to ask my local garage to have a look at the turbo and the actuator soon.
  8. Thanks for the comment mate. Until now i have not seen any decrease with oil level however if there is small leak it might be possible. I have thought that it might be looking like that because of dirt. I will try to clean that part to see how it goes. Looks like she will need to see her doctor after xmas
  9. I had the cables changed last week, as always the original cables were expensive so that I went for NGK ones. As well the battery was dying after 6 years, changed it as well. I am trying to have a look under the hood ever few weeks to see if something leaks, sth does not seem right along with antifreeze and oil levels. Today everything seemed fine except for drops of some fluid at the bottom part of one of the new ignition cables. Was hard to put my big hands down there, it feels like waterish- in the shiny area below, like 1-2 little drops The others are harder to see deepdown but they look okay. Is this something normal or something i should check? Appreciate any comments.
  10. There are some liquids that help to defrost - can be helpful only for the windows. You need to spray it in the morning and the frost will be mostly gone in 30-60 seconds . It seems to be effective down to -5 , -7 celsius I see that you want to avoid it before all is frozen but it can be alternative solution
  11. In the Italian forum which I first encountered the latest kit, it was mentioned in november 2014 however the related KPI was saying the latest kit was compatible with engines produced after 7th of Nov, 2011. So, it should have bern available before november 2014 but it was denied that the kit was compatible with our engines When I fitted the latest kit in last february, 2 authorized services were still telling me that latest kit ending with "b" was incompatible with mine and refused to fit it while another two agreed.
  12. Thanks a lot xman, i found it ! I m having oil change next week and will also have these fitted
  13. Here it is Click In order to understand the whole point, it is better to read from the beginning to the end
  14. Ours is chain rather than belt, there was a known design error, it is recommended to fit whole kit - it is not only the chain to be replaced I have changed mine when the car had 40k miles. If you check from my profile the old posts you will see a topic about cam chain issue. If you have time to go through it, it is worth to read
  15. That might be correct, however, i have never had any issues after fitting that, time will show. About the recalibration, if the garage is specialized on VW group cars, I believe they should have the right tools for it. Good luck
  16. Surf it on the web, you will see a lot of victim stories, Mostly about cam chains, all 1.2 tsis' built before 2012 are under danger of it, some people did 100k plus miles and nothing some wrecked the engine becausr of that even before 50k Turbos also seem like they are prone to fail, If you somehow decide to buy, make sure to start the car after the car was kept stopped more than few hours and when you turn the key if you hear a metallic sound for the first 1-2 second , i would recommend to stay away, i had a lot of anger and stress Wife is not keen on selling it because of the huge boot otherwise, i would exchange it the same day, Do not get me wrong it is all about reliability of the car - apart from that i am so happy with the performance for such small engine
  17. I had the exact same problem a year ago, was feeling the car had difficulties with acceleration then the lights came on along with limp mode I went directly to an independent, they said that the actuator is not sold as a separate part so either i can buy whole original turbo which was around 800 pounds ( i am in eastern Europe) or just to buy a Germqn replacement actuator ( new) which was around 200 bucks, i chose the second one they did the adaptation good, even it felt better than original one. I never bothered to ask for the brand of it or checked but i can pop the hood if you would like to check the part. I am not sure if you need to change whole turbo, i would check for sure with a different garage, that is a lot of money
  18. We have had heavy rain since yesterday, the passenger side headlight seems to be foggy now :( I cannot take it off and clean up all the time, any idea guys?
  19. So sad to hear that minimoke, i believe you have low mileage for carbon buildup but not impossible. Hoping to hear some good news!
  20. Hi Guys, I checked some threads but wanted to get some more opinions about 1.2 TSI 110 estate. I currently have MK2 1.2 TSI 105 hp HB, had the problem with timing chain I am thinking about changing the car, looking for options for some new cars and some used: New ones: Vauxhall Astra 1.6 105 hp Sedan Automatic Gearbox - my first option but a little expensive for my budget Fiat Tipo Sedan or estate - 1.4 , does not have very good engine performance and NCAP results are not so bright. except for reliability problems I am pleased with performance of Octi and the boot is quite enough for me, but I would prefer to have estate while I have small baby with a lot of stuff to carry My priority is reliable engine, transmission and body - not much interested in with equipment. When I check for MK3 1.2 TSI 110 hp, I generally see good comments, I would like to know if there is something that I should be careful about when I check the car. I test drove Mk3 Fabia estate last year the performance was quite okay but the car felt a little small for me as I am a tall guy. Are there any known issues that I should be aware of with Octi MK3? 1.2 TSI going well until now? I might go for manual transmission. My Octi takes a lot of road noise, is that similar with MK3? Thanks a lot!
  21. Bringing the topic up Octi was in underground parking for around 8 hours then i took her for wash. When I was checking around, i recognized some condensation on the left bottom part of passenger side lamp. Left it for the night and checked it in the morning, it was still there but no drops at the bottom of the whole thing. Took it out, and used the dryer, now looks okay. Tried to have a look for any holes - as well no problem with seal as far as I could see. This plastic cover on the back side came to my mind, 1 month ago during servicing, they told me there was a problem with one of the bulbs and they changed it. I still have the warning light running all the time though:) Just tried to push the cover better, hoping it wont happen again, I believe it is not normal
  22. My chain driven octavia gives between 6 - 8.3lt/100 km or between 35-45 mpg. I have got heavy foot, just tried for one full depot a little slower to see how much she could give, it was around 6lt /100km or 47 mpg foe the best. my average is around 7lt/100km - 40 mpg.
  23. Completeley agree with you. I definitely would not bet either, but they seems to be less problematic than earlier 1.2 'for now' and i am sure my next car will not be any VAG group one. Have to keep mine for 1-2 years and if it has been still alive at that time, will get rid of it. I cannot complain about the performance though. However, reliability of the engine is a big question mark.9 My suggestion to OP was if he wants to make a choice between two
  24. I am suggesting to avoid mk2 105 hp and i am for mk3 euro 6 ones. Sorry for typo, talking about mk3 from 2014
