  1. View Advert 18" Turini Alloys with winter tyres for Octavia III For sale are a set of Skoda Turini alloy wheels with Goodyear UltraGrip Performance GEN-1 winter tyres. The alloys have been powder coated gloss black (instead of the standard Matt black). They are in reasonable condition with no kerbing but they do have a few small marks and chips in the coating. I have tried to show these marks in the photos (within the 10 photo limit), I have more photos I can supply on request. Two tyres have approx 6mm tread and the other two have 5mm. I do have a set of Skoda center caps for the wheels but like most Skoda caps they have corroded quite a lot, so you might want to buy a new set. I can supply a photo if you wish. They can be collected from Aberdeen or I am happy to ship. The estimated price of shipping is £41.99 based on a price quoted by Paisley Freight. 2. I've bought this one from Amazon. You can wrap it horizontally around the headrest so that it fits on the bucket seats. I've only tried it briefly but so far it seems to work well
  3. I went with Yakima (also branded Whispbars) Aero-X S53B bars for my VRS estate. These are cheaper than the Thule Wingbar Edge and, in my opinion, look slightly neater (they seem to sit lower on the roof bars compared to the Thule Edges.) I leave them on the car all the time so the look is important to me. The only real downsides with both the Aero-X and the Wingbar Edge are that they have less usable T-track width than through bars and they are less likely to be compatible with other cars.
  4. Has anyone bought seat covers for their VRS that they can recommend?
  5. I'm looking to get a set of seat covers for the front and back seats of my VRS. They will only be used occasionally so I'm looking for something that's quite easy to put on and off. I don't want to spend silly money on them but I do want something that's semi tailored for the seats, especially the front ones. Does anyone use any covers they can recommend? Any photos of them in use would be great. There's been a few topics about this over the years but I can't find any that's got some positive answers and some photos.
  6. I've now fitted the camera so I'll answer my own question in case it's useful to anyone. When I looked into this more I found conflicting information on which wire (red or black) was for the permanent 12V supply and which was for the reverse signal. I took some current measurements on each wire and I believe that the red wire is for permanent 12V supply and black is for the reverse signal. In the end I tapped into the rear wiper supply wires for the -ve (brown wire) and permanent 12V supply (red wire) of the camera. I then tapped into the left hand reverse light wire for the reverse signal (black wire). Using the reverse light wire for the reverse signal isn't very elegant, but it's the only option I could find and seems to be what most people do. FWIW, I believe the wiring that Wakey described previously would result in the camera being permanently powered up whenever the ignition is on. I could be missing something though and am happy to be corrected. From what I have seen both fuse 32 and the rear wiper supply would be at a permanent 12v when the ignition is on.
  7. I am looking to install this camera and have some questions about the red wire. Am I right to assume that this wire should be on a switched 12V supply that is only powered when park assist is active? I want to make this install as OEM as possible and would like to avoid using a piggyback fuse, I'm a bit of a perfectionist with this sort of thing! Does anyone know what the red wire would be connected to out of the factory and whether there is a good place to tap into this signal?
  8. Are you able to share any details on how you did the retrofit and how much it cost?
  9. I normally have my Maxidot showing one of the Driving Data pages (eg. current speed, range, fuel consumption etc.) I sometimes find that it changes the page it's displaying when my Stop/Start resumes. I suspect something is making the car think the scrollwheel on the right hand side of the steering wheel has moved up or down by one click. I think you are having the same issue, it's just presenting itself as a different symptom because you have music displayed on your Maxidot. With music displayed, the Maxidot scrollwheel allows you to skip track. So, if the car thinks the wheel has moved, then the music track will be skipped. I haven't tried to work out how to fix this issue with the scrollwheel wheel. The first thing to try is probably to change the cluster of switches on the right hand side of the steering wheel. If that doesn't help then it's probably going to be a tricky problem to fix.
  10. I bought this one - http://www.theskodashop.co.uk/product/Octavia_Mark_3_VRS-_Spare_Wheel_Tool_Kit_5E0093860A This kit is designed for an 18" spacesaver and fits inside my VW wheel perfectly. The photo shown on the site is wrong, see here for a photo of what you actually get.
  11. Thanks to the great tip above, I bought a second hand VW 18" spacesaver off ebay. It was only £50 so a good bit cheaper.
  12. I always like to use an axle stand as a backup to the jack, especially a hydraulic jack. You shouldn't need it, but there's always a risk of the jack failing. I know someone who had their jack fail while they had a wheel off, resulting in a damaged car and damaged driveway.
  13. I'm going to be putting my winter wheels on my new VRS soon, which will be the first time I've seen under the car. I do have a Skoda jack but would far rather use a trolley jack and axle stands. I was therefore wondering if anyone has found good places to put axle stands on the Octavia iii? I did a quick search but couldn't see any real answers, it looks like Skoda have gone the way of most manufacturers and made no provision for did work. I do not have the S3 jack pads so plan to put the trolley jack (and grooved hockey puck) on the standard jacking points on the seams.
  14. I have recently bought a 16 plate Octavia and am loving it apart from one little niggle with the Amundsen. I have all my music stored on an 64GB SD card. Every so often when I start the car, instead of playing the last album/track I was listening to before, the stereo starts playing the first album by the first artist. This happens every few days and there seems to be no pattern do when it will or won't do it. For instance, it has happened after the car has been left overnight but it has also happened when the car has only been stopped for 10 minutes. I notice that I can't access the artist/album database for a minute or so when this happens, so it seems to be that that the stereo has lost it's database of what is on the card and needs to reindex everything. Is this a common issue or is there something wrong with my particular head unit?
  15. Hi, I've just bought a second hand VRS 230 and am looking to buy a Spacesaver wheel for it as unfortunately it didn't come with one. The official Skoda part looks to be about £300 so I am looking at cheaper alternatives. For various reasons, I want a Spacesaver that fits in the wheel well without protruding, rather than a full size alloy. I've found an option made by proMotor which is only £109, see here I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this wheel? I'm sure it fits on the car fine but it would be nice to know for sure that it fits properly in the wheel well. I can't find any details about the width of this wheel to compare it with the official part. I plan to buy the Skoda toolkit and put this inside the wheel, so I'm also interested to hear how well this fits? Thanks, Mike
