  1. I just noticed that the tyres on my 2016 Super Estate have cracks round the outer sidewalls. They were original equipment on the car when I bought it new in Sept 2016 (actually, ex demo with 250mls on the clock...), but they've only done 24,900 miles and still have 5mm of tread left. The date stamps are 1316 and 1416, so they were fresh to begin with. They've never been flat, punctured, or kerbed. A quick look online flagged up various complaints about Pirellis, and tbh, I'm a bit nervous about continuing with them as most of my journeys are motorway thrashes... I'd be grateful if members could suggest some experience-based alternatives . The size is 235/45 R18 94W. I've just fitted a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 5's on to my "other" car (91 Eunos Roadster 1.6 V-spec) and so far I'm impressed, quiet and the car feels like it's on rails, but for the Superb?......... 2. Thanks for that..........I was confusing it with Mercedes Pyotr
  3. I've had the amber engine symbol warning light stay on, and the OBD ll code reader (£18 off ebay) is telling me I have fault no: P0672 cyl 2 glow plug circuit open............I'd like to check the accessible wiring/connections. Does the cover just pop off with a bit of brute force, or is it secured with clips or whatever? I've had bad experiences with engine bay plastics in the past............... Advice greatly appreciated.......... Pyotr
  4. Difference in distance travelled for one revolution between 205/55 R16 and 235/45 R18 is 37mm. For spare, this is acceptable, I think. I have similar with my MX5, space saver spare supplied by Mazda that is slightly different diameter to main wheels. This is my first Skoda, so I can't make comparison. It would be easy to use rev counter when spare is fitted to front of car to determine if speedometer reading is out of tolerance with smaller wheel, but life is too short...................... Pyotr
  5. For my Superb mk3 2.0 TDi 150 SE Business combi, I just bought this wheel from www.tyreleader.co.uk : Skoda Superb / Combi 2.0TDI (07/2008) 7x16" for £40.50 delivered (five days, from Germany), and cheap 205/55 R16 94W tyre (Runway from Micheldever tyres, £45.80 fitted) Fits floor recess with room to spare........boot floor sits snugly on tyre wall. Plus https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-cbj3b-3-tonne-bottle-jack/ Hate scissor jacks, wheel brace I have already.............. IMHO better solution than Skoda alternatives, for £100. Pyotr
  6. Honest John has wrong number on Superb review...............says TSI's are EA288. Pyotr
  7. Does anyone know what VAG engine designation number is for 2.0 TDi 150ps, as fitted to Superb mk3? It will be something like EA288. Apparently, this engine, 1.8 TFSI and 2.0 TFSI, is subject of recall in USA due to camshaft lobe shearing off. Pyotr
  8. I found this while researching cost effective way to put spare wheel instead of bottle of rubber solution in my Superb estate......... http://www.errolstyres.co.za/content/tyre-overall-rolling-diameter When comparing 16" wheel (205/55) to 18" Pegasus alloys (235/45), I think loaded radius is important bit. I was disappointed to discover that 18" wheel+tyre wouldn't fit under the plastic valance, but I'm assuming Skoda know what they're doing by supplying 16" spare steel wheel, and that using it at 80kmh won't wreck transmission/abs/speedometer or whatever    Pyotr
  9. Apologies for overlapping topics, but this flags up one advantage of buying a pre reg. or ex demo car.........at least you get to test drive the actual one you're thinking about buying, and if it's used for demo's, any teething problems would hopefully manifest themselves before you part with the wedge...................and you don't have to wait for it.. Apparently the dealers have to keep a car they pre-register for three months before they sell it on, so the buyer gets the balance of the original new car warranty, in my case, 33 months. Mine came with some extras, big wheels, full leather, met. paint. I effectively saved around £3+K and got a car with 250mls on the clock, otherwise indistinguishable from new. I was a bit uncomfortable with the internet discount sites...............at least the main dealer is only 10mls away. Pyotr
  10. I had Diamondbrite applied to a Kia I kept for four years, and it was fine. I never polished or waxed it, just shampoo'd it and added the conserver to the last bucket of rinse before leathering off. Looked as good as ever when I sold it. I'm giving Lifeshine a go on the Superb. Pyotr
  11. Pre-reg May 2016 (250mls on clock, so probably been used as a demo), 2.0TDi 150 Business Estate, Petrol Blue met, with full leather and 18" Pegasus wheels.......nice car. Pyotr
  12. First filled tank gave 54.2mpg on computer, and 51.4 by calculation. 70-80mph motorway plus 50mph M3 roadworks, and slow traffic when 2 idiot artics decide to go side by side up long hill on two lane dual carriageway....................... Superb S3 2.0 TDi 150 Business estate, manual gearbox, 1115 mls from new. (Tried DSG, hated it............) Pyotr
  13. I recently bought a new Superb Estate 2.0 TDi Business that's on 18" Pegasus wheels with Pirelli P7's, and compared to the Kia Ceed Estate that it replaced, it's almost silent. About the same as a series 3 Jag. Sovereign that we had years ago. We run it in sports mode, as like the Jag., we found it a bit wallowy in normal. So far, I'm really impressed with it. As it's the first new car I've bought in 30 years, I'm still trying to get my head around a huge estate that does 54mpg with the engine doing just 2000rpm at 80mph in sixth. Not too sure about the "flexible servicing schedule" (Q16 on the servicing ticket)............I think I'll be changing the oil/filter a bit more frequently. What a rubbish warranty, though.................. Pyotr
