The problem with second hand gearboxes is - the parts of the selector linkage are worn to unknown extent. These wear out before the synch. cones. So usually only these have to be replaced, no need to dismantle the gears from the shaft. I shall look to buy any parts of the selector mechanism. Think the shipping from the Chech republic won't be too expensive. The Felicias are really cheap and probably nobody will invest time in overhauling the gearbox. If there are difficulties to select the 1st and the 2nd, the remedy is not complicated if one reads the above posts. All mentioned above isn't true about the Fabia. I saw the picture of the parts breakdown and it looks like it was designed by VW.

Yes, this is the correct way to assemble if you do an overhaul. I may have to open the big nut at the end of the main gear shaft if I have no success closing the gearbox as it is. There is some trick to manuever the lever into its place and so save all the work of removing the back cover, opening and tightening the big nuts etc. And to put this ring (16x14x3) over the shaft in page 16 fig. 1, there is no need to open the gearbox. Thank you for the photos.

Sorry for what happened in Haiti island. Back to my small problems: To close the Skoda gearbox one have to insert the parts of the reverse lever into the slots in the reverse idle gear and the reverse shaft. In the attached pictures the corresponding points are shown and the arrows colored correspondingly. https://1drv.ms/f/s!AgpPYFsscNUfaAd49T91mIR5ehA Do I have to use an endoscope to see what am I doing? Is some wire or thread to pull the lever in the slots is the right way to solve it? Thank you.

The old Chech gearboxes are simple and rugged. But there are also some design mistakes. One of those - no real limiter for the vertical gear selector shaft. Its movement down is limited by a plug with an internal hex 8mm seen from the bottom. Its movement up is limited only by friction between the steel shaft and the holes in the aluminum case, The result: after a long time it becomes impossible to select the 1st and the 2nd.(the shaft crawls too high). The solution is simple: inserting a ring over this shaft. But the gearbox have to be opened. Here everything is straitforward except the final closing of the case halves. The lever used to push the reverse gear have to be inserted in two slots: the one in the reverse gear and the second in the reverse selector shaft. Does anybody know the right way to get this reverse lever engaged so the case can be closed? Thank you.
