  1. Pulled from Google: "In general, the specifications for a USB 1.0 and 2.0 standard downstream port, delivers up to 500 mA or 0.5A. Also, with a USB 3.0, it can provide up to 900mA or 0.9A, which translates into 4.5 watts." I would guess that the phone is being charged, however android auto is discharging the battery at a higher rate. I would guess that the phone battery would last longer via the cable than if you were using a wireless connection. Difference between your Octavia and Polo possibly down to the Octavia using USB 2.0 and the Polo using the USB 3.0 standard? Honestly dont know as I use a dedicated USB charger from the cigarette lighter. I use this. I and my passengers all have android phones, charges them fine, no idea if its any good for Apple products.
  2. 2.0TDi owner. Have had the car 4 years, this has happened to me once. Probably around 3 years ago. Luckily the parking bay was level so the car did not roll (did not leave in gear). Since then I leave in gear on the flat, if next to a curb turn the wheels into the curb also.
  3. Really impressive MPG return there, best I have ever had is 68-69mpg out of the 2.0TDI. I am really impressed that you managed to get that out of a petrol.
  4. Boot stays locked on mine even if the drivers door has opened. I have my car set up so that if the driver door opens the rest of the car remains locked. You can change this in the car setup of the infotainment system. I believe its located in the same menu where you can find the distance/time before service inspection. From memory it is CAR>SETTINGS> and there should be an option for locking/security. Or just press the unlock button by the gearstick in leaving the car
  5. Not really a mod but maintenance. Changed my front wiper blades and air cabin filter; all had been on the car since new (5 years). Never changed an air cabin filter before, easy enough taking everything apart but damn, really annoying getting the glove box back on with the dampner.... 5 minutes to take it apart, 1 minute to swap out the filter, 20 minutes and more than 20 swear words to get the glove box reattached. As for mods I have put myself down for getting my windows tinted; they are currently shut due to COVID. I want the back 4 windows limo tinted (5%) and the rear factory tinted (15%), quoted £140 for Llumar tints which seems very reasonable. Next weekend I plan on fishing that bag of silica out of my engine coolant resivour.
  6. Cheers for this, just picked up a cabin filter and wiper blades
  7. Have them as summer tyres on 17 inch alloys. Have had the asymetric 3's and 5's, both good tyres and I am happy to buy them.
  8. Good call, I forgot that scroll button when pressed in mutes the stereo as I rarely play music in the car. I just jump in the car and dial down the volume with the knob along with disable the stop start; its a mild irritation and I was wondering if anyone knew of a quick fix that didnt involve me having to adjust sound settings everytime I start the car up.
  9. Hello all I have a "feature" on my car that I cannot turn off, or atleast know how to turn off, I was wondering if anyone else knew how to or could provide a workaround. Similar to the annoying Stop/Start that always defaults to reenabling itself when you turn the car off I have another irritation and that is the Radio/MP3 turning the music on when I turn the car on and the Amundsen fires up. Sure I can turn the music down, but it is still irritating that when I have silenced the music, I get back in the car and it fires back up again 😒 I can get irritated very easily by noise, specifically music and or radio commentators; I may even like the music but I have to be in the mood for it otherwise it drives me mad. So all I want, is that when I am not in the mood I can mute the unit and when it powers back up it remains muted until I decide I want to have something playing. I am aware I can hit the power button but I do like having the display on/sat nav etc without having to arse around with sound levels. I believe this is called the "Maximum switch-on volume" in the Amundsen user manual. https://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Octavia_5E/11-2014/Navigation/Amundsen/A7_Octavia_Amundsen_InfotainmentNavigation.pdf This setting can only go as low as 5, is there a way to force this to 0 or is there another way I can achieve what I want? Can anyone help this grumpy sod out?
  10. In 5 pages you have been evasive, asking for advice but only giving part of the story; "Hey guyz I need your expert advice because replaced my diesel filter with a cotton shirt, what did I do wrong" someone then says "have you tried this" and the reply in the next posts is "yes I have tried this already, please help".... This thread was hard work, Briskodians sure do have patience. To not be totally negative and actually partake, I have the 150BHP 2.0TDI (2015 Euro 5). Over 37,085miles my cars calculated MPG(UK) is 46.9MPG as a low, 69.6MPG as a high, average over those miles is 53.8MPG. As others have said, MPG will change on how you drive (the large MPG gained during 7hr drive to Scotland sat on the motorway with cruise control on with my summer tyres), driving conditions (I tend to get lower MPG in the winter due to winter tyres, generally slower traffic), using my figures the range between my low and high MPG is 22.7MPG which is pretty big.
  11. https://swedishicescraper.se/ Swedish ice scraper works well for me. Bought my car second hand, previous car had a heated windscreen (only thing I miss). Alas; my Swedish ice scraper makes short work of the ice and snow so less time doing peasant tasks.......
  12. Winter tyres have been on since the start of November. 16" Conti TS860's on steel rims, took off 17" Goodyear Eagle F1 AS3' on alloys. Have been impressed with TS860's thus far; very good grip in the wet though there seems to be a bit of side wall wobble in the corner that took a little bit of getting used to. Low speed manoeuvres are also easier though I gather that is from dropping the wheel size as opposed to the tyre itself. No noticeable difference in MPG on my local routes in, though around 2-3MPG worse on the motorway runs. TS860's seem a little noisier then the F1's. The F1's in the snow are tragic and an accident waiting to happen; great tyre but horrible when there is even a whiff of snow on the road. The F1's I think are a fantastic tyre though are totally out of their comfort zone in any amount of snow. Almost hoping it snows just so I can see the difference these Conti's make to the car handling as I have never driven with winter tyres before. Snow of course after the Christmas shipment of wine has been delivered, there can be 8ft of snow outside then for all I care
  13. Didnt require google translate. Video of the dude ice skating down the road said it all
  14. Recently bought a set of 16" steel wheels with Continental TS860's on from Mrwinterwheels. No issues to report, prompt delivery, good and easy to use website. I found it easier to use there website than mytyres as you had the price displayed every step of the way and I was not hampered with crappy loading times that I found on mytyres. Thanks for the heads up about this company
  15. I actually like them.. You can alter the brightness in the amundsen on my car. Think it comes under ambient lighting? Havent looked at it for a long time but I think I remember the setting being under the lighting setting of the options.
