Locking the car without activating the alarm?
Mr Jack replied to Mr Jack's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Double tapping it didn't stop the alarm going off; hell, leaving it unlocked didn't stop the alarm going off. The RAC man disconnecting the siren did stop it annoying the heck out of everyone. -
The Trip computer actually measures a different average mpg than the "brimming method"; which is why it gives different results. The mpg it gives you is fuel economy averaged across time, whereas the "brimming method" gives you fuel economy averaged across fuel usage. So if (totally imaginary figures) you do 30 mpg at 60 mph and 60 mpg at 30 mph, and drive at 60 for half an hour, and then 30 for half an hour. The trip computer will read that you've averaged 45 mpg, but measuring miles covered divided by fuel used will give you 36 mpg - quite the difference.

I'll try that double tapping thing. Is there any way I can tell whether it has worked or not? -
Locking the car without activating the alarm?
Mr Jack posted a topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
For the past few days my vRS's alarm has been playing silly beggers, culminating in going off twice last night and four times this morning. This doesn't impress me much; nor - one expects - my neighbours! I took it to the dealership and they say there's a known problem with the internal sensors but can't get the car fixed until next week. In the meantime, is there a way I can switch the alarm off? -
No problems with mine; only had it for 3500 miles though.

RE: 2006 vrS OWNERS STUTTER - SKODA UK FIX
Mr Jack replied to Suncat's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
My late 56 plate vRS does have a slight stutter but it's so mild as to be not worth mentioning. I've only done 3k so far though and some people have said it may get worse with distance. -
Who has replaced their Fabia vRS? What with?
Mr Jack replied to clv101's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I replaced a Mondeo Ghia X with my vRS. I wouldn't go back. Oh, and if you do choose to go for a Mondie, don't pay £10k for one. The depreciation on Mondies is so very, very steep that it's really not worth paying more than £5k-£6k for one. -
I'm of the opinion that the Stutter is not an issue with new vRS's. Certainly it isn't on mine; you do get it very occasionally but it's so minor as to not be an issue.
-
The vRS is not the best car on the road. It's not the most comfortable; it's not the quickest, it's not the best handling and it's not the most economical but there's precious little else that offers such an excellent combination of all these features. It's quick enough to put a smile on your face, comfortable on long runs and still returns an impressive number of miles to the gallon. I don't regret buying mine one little bit.

I have a 56 plate Fabia, in the 2500 miles I've been driving it, I have only had the stutter two or three times and even in these cases it has a been a minor hesitation not the wild judder others have described. This implies to me that, yes, Skoda can do something about the Stutter - after all it's pretty much fixed in the newer cars.

Buying a Fabia VRS - which options?
Mr Jack replied to bbob1's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I have back trouble; heated seats stop my back from ceasing up on long journeys. -
Buying a Fabia VRS - which options?
Mr Jack replied to bbob1's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Cruise and heated seats, definetely. Both are cheap, oft used options. The standard lights are plenty good enough, so I wouldn't bother with Xenons. If you have kids (or are planning on 'em) get the airbag deactivation option. CD multichanger is nice for long journeys, but I don't actually make much use of mine. -

My experience is similar to Tim's. I have to say that I think the more recent cars don't have the problem. However, some folks have said it same on later, so I'll report back when I've had the car for a while longer. -
I get 54.0 mpg from my vRS. So far, anyway. In contrast to the rest of you, my trip computer figures match my pump calculated ones.

Fabia vRS insurance renewal

Quinn direct were good for me. -
Neat, aren't they?

I've had that problem. But only at one garage, otherwise it's been fine.

I got a black one; I think yellow is a truly awful colour for a car (but the safest, yellow car drivers are the least likely to be involved in an accident), silver is almost as bad and I don't like red. I think it looks much, much better in black than in red. Being Yellow will affect your resale value but, damnit man, you're not buying it for it's resale value - choose the colour you like and be happy about it.

Yay!

Rasping/Scraping sound from left-rear
Mr Jack replied to Mr Jack's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
It seems it worked itself out this time. By the time I'd got it to the garage the noise had long gone; they took a look took it out for a drive and agreed with your diagnosis of a lodged stone. -
Rasping/Scraping sound from left-rear
Mr Jack replied to Mr Jack's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
No, it's more of a grinding noise. I'm taking in to the dealer to be checked out in half and hour so I'll let you know what they think. -
Well, I've had the car for 700 miles now so I thought I'd comment again. I got it on November 29th, I believe it was built at the start of November. It does have a stutter, however I've never noticed it under hard acceleration (even when dropping a gear). Instead it stutters at about 1800 rpm in 3rd (occasionally 4th) under gentle accelerator pressure, particularly if going uphill.

Driving my vRS last night, I noticed a sort of raaasssppp-raasspp-rasp sound when driving in traffic and slowing down, it tended to start as I (gently) applied the brakes, but continue for a while afterwards. It was definetly coming from the rear on the passenger side, and sounded to me like the brakes (they do rasp slightly from the rear sometimes anyway). It was consistent yesterday; but doesn't seem to be occuring today. Any ideas what it might be?

On a perhaps related issue; I've noticed spots of water on the bit of the door that you can see from neither inside or outside (when they're shut, obviously, dunno what it's called). There doesn't seem to be any getting actually into the car; but I've not seen this on other cars; is it usual on vRSs?
