  1. Hello all, i too have just met the threaded hub scenario, it seems that the calliper sliding pegs wont screw back into the hub because the threads have indeed disintegrated, the quality of the hub does not look good to be honest and given the correct torque values always being used with adequate lubrication and cleaning of the part in the past, is an indication of poor manufacture. The question is, is there a work around, such as rethreading the hub? If not it will require two new hubs, very, very poor indeed.
  2. Hello, i've owned and example of this particular model from new, in 2001. This engine and gearbox need revs to avoid annoying sluggishness, so if you have a need for torque filled midrange and aren't prepared to use the kickdown on the gearbox then it might not be a pleasing package. However the engine is smooth and carries the revs well, so if you don't mind carrying the revs it is a fairly nippy car and cruises well at up to 100mph or so. Cruising at 50mph, the engine in my car just suffered a catastrophic failure, the piston ring seems to have disintergrated, siezed the piston in the block which led to the con rod snapping and punching a hole the size of a matchbox in the front of the engine! This at 53,000 miles, main dealer servicing throughout, so be warned, these engines do fail entirely and more commonly suffer worn or cracked piston rings, it's an ongoing issue. I hope this helps.
  3. Hello All, Enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend i hope. I need to refill my Automatic Gearbox and torque converter in my 2001 Fabia, i have emptied the gearbox and the torque converter and would like to know how how much to put back in and the correct grade, can i use Dextron 3? Also can it be filled through the little plastic plug on the front of the gearbox which had a red tamperproof cap on it? Many thanks
  4. Hello all, can anyone out there please advise me of quantitly of gearbox oil required in a 1.4 16valve Auto Fabia? I have changed the torque converter which shares oil from the gearbox and have drained both completely, so i now need to know ho much to put back in? Also, does anyone know the correct type of gearbox oil? Many thanks
  5. Hello to all, My car, a 2001 1.4 16V Auto with engine code AUA has just suffered catastrophic piston ring failure at 53,000 miles, full main dealer History, recent oil and filter. This is disgusting of course for an engine with VW & Audi logos on it, anyhow, it's a common problem with some failing at 20,000 miles. So that everyone knows, the tappet noise, intermittent, usually, is the first sign of trouble, then the oil warning light comes on occasionally and then........in my case pop! Be careful to use only manufacturers filters and correct specification oil in these engines and hope for the best.
  6. Hello again, i've noticed a number of compatible looking engines on Ebay with the code AUD, can anyone let me know if this will work for me? Many thanks
  7. Many thanks for that information Teflon Tom, I've had a look on the plastic, upper cambelt cover, the code there is: AUA, not AUB as i expected, does this signify the crankshaft difference to which you refer? I've been trying the Skospares website all day, it just locks up Firefox!!! Any other suggestions of sources would be greatly appreciated, i need to complete this chore quickly and sense sourcing a new uniot will be a pain! Am i correct to think that the drive shafts are easily seperated from the gearbob by unbolting them at the flanges, also is this best done from above or below? I'm going to have to take the front off the car aren't i? Oh boy.......:weeping:
  8. :( Yes that's me! Last night my 53,000 miles, main dealer serviced, fully topped up with oil 2001 Fabia let me down! At 50mph what sounded like a ring failed, lots of noise and smoke ensued and it siezed very fast! So, could any of you helpful people here point me in the direction of a bottom end or a full engine, or advise where i might start to look. Also, is this job fraught with problems in terms of getting the engine out and clear of the gearbox?
  9. Thanks for your replies, to update you, the engine popped last night! Strangely the oil light had only come on only once in the last two days of fairly continuous, stop/ start driving, however i was driving along last night at about 50mph when, what sounded like a ring let go! Lots of noise and smoke and rough running and it siezed up pretty quick too! A new bottom end i think...........does anyone have one or know of where i might start looking? Also, are there any specific problems to look out for when rebuilding these? Many thanks
  10. Hello to you all, a great forum this, i hope someone can help with a Fabia 16valve 1.4 problem? The car has fresh oil and filter, the level is correct as is the grade. From cold the oil light will more often than not illuminate, accompanied by a shrill warning sound, this light and warning sound often come on from time to time when you drive, sometimes not. Sometimes there is loud top end noise from cold, as though the lifters have not pressurised but sometimes the sound takes a fewe minutes to occur. When the oil is warm the noise invariably goes away but the warning light and noise may re-occur. Has anyone experienced this and can they shed light on the possible causes, i'm considering sludge in the oil ways and stainer? Is an engine flush a good idea? If so, which product? Many thanks for any help you can offer. Dan
