  1. Sorry come to think of it was`nt trying to overtake was just getting through the gears to get up to speed, this has never happened before ,Sorry I have got about 700,000 miles under my belt .
  2. Hi folks quick question got a 1.9 tdi Octy with 31,000 miles fssh 2005 elegance.Driving it back from a weekend away today.Tried to overtake was doing about 42 mph was in 4th gear tried to change up to 5th gear went for the gear change give it some acceleration and got a bad judder and had to change back down to 4th gear.other than this the car drives like a dream not noticed any judder on take off from the lights. Any Ideas or thoughts please.
  3. Hello folks thinking of buying the wife the above car .The car has done 78000 miles with full skoda service history ,they are going to do the belt as it is due,or knock so money off so I can get it done myself. Can anybody please tell me any obvious things to look for when I go to view the car tommorrow. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi guys it`s another oil question,I have had a price form my local VW, Skoda,Seat Tps , how is it that they can sell oil for the PD oil for fixed servicing for £15 and the long life stuff for £25 .My question is is it any good ,as the equivelant from Skoda is £12 a litre.Skoda want £100 just to drop the oil and filter for a 10,000 mile fixed service, credit crunch and all that can`t justify so gonna get a mate who has a garage to do it for less than half that .Your thoughts please. thanks in advance
  5. Spooky,I have just logged in to write a new thread on this very subject,I have had my Octy A5 for about a month now 1.9 TDI 06 plate with 49,000 miles,I thought I would have got used to the brakes by now as I am in the car all day for work. But as some of the threads above say I am not.I have had the car into Skoda who say they are fine,I also had a friend who is an MOT inspector check them on the rolling road and it passed. However every time I come to the lights in pole position as it were I always always go over the white line every time (frustrating).I have also nearly rear ended countless cars in traffic not good. I too find them very non progressive and grabby.I also noticed when I had the window down a hissing - pssss noise when I apply the foot brake I told the guy in Skoda about this ,but he did not mention it when he told me he could not find anything wrong. This is my first Skoda after being a Vauxhall driver for the last 15 years, but I am not getting used to these brakes.
  6. Thanx its still in warranty ,so will they replace?
  7. Hi guys my stereo display has just gone out on my Octavia ambient 06 plate 1.9 TDI .The stereo still works but the display is blank.Any ideas please.Stream
  8. thanks for all your replies guys, obviously the cavalier with the isuzu left a mark on quite a few of you too, I went up hill down dale all over the place in that car and it was unbelievable it just went on ,relentless ,I once went through a flood in wales with the water 3quarters up the doors for half a mile and it just came out the other side ,while everyone else Broke down .The horn sounded a bit dodgy for a while after wards that was it.What a car.Any how the skoda is still getting plent of use ,enjoying it.
  9. After being a Vauxhall driver for the last 15 years.first it was the 1.7 cavalier (Isuzu) did 250,000 miles in that. Then came a Vectra 20.di 16v did 235,000 in that one .Both great reliable durable cars. Then came the astra 1.7 cdti sri ,ever bought the wrong car I broke every rule in the used car buyers book when I bought this one I was desperate to get another car and just threw myself at it,anyway only lasted 12 months with this one.Bought the Skoda Octavia 1.9 Ambient last week in silver I love this car .I should have had one a long time ago I hope it can stand beside the first 2 as above , it is very refined and comfortable ,goes like a train excelent mpg we are just bonding at the moment but so far so good .Its a great car.
  10. I am posting on behalf of a friend who has a octy 19 pd diesel. Is there a cheaper alternative to the specified oil castrol Sl III 5w-30 fully synthetic Skoda are charging £12 per litre what a rip .
  11. Hello ,I`m fairly new here.I have done a lot of reading via the search button.but I still have a lot of reservations, but some how still want the Octy Dsg.My questions are, as a taxi takes a bit of stick on a daily basis is this dsg up fo the constant stop starting all day long on short journeys in and out of city centres through traffic jams, I know these engines are renound for there reliabilty but is the DSG going to take the strain if say the car gets up to 200000 miles as my last two vehicles have one was a Cavalier 17 TD Isuzu did 245000. The other was a Vectra Di did 220000 .Both fantastic workhorses.I wpould really like an Auto it would make the job so much easier from what I have read here this is no ordinary Auto with the DSG but I am still very sceptical as I could not be doing with the vechicle off the road and the cost which I believe would be a lot of cash. Talk about a dilema .Your comments would be good on this please.Any fellow cab drivers or any body who knows any cab drivers would be great if you coul chime in.cheers Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi guys thanks for all your posts .However I am starting to be put of buying this vechicle I have been offered.I was rally looking forward to the automatic gearbox it would make my day so much easier ,I was prepared to pay a little bit more for the fuel to have the comfort of the auto. Also I have read that cv boots are very common can anybody reccomend any other really good auto diesels salloon car I thought with the superb being part of the vw group it would have been durable.I have just read on anothe forum from a guy who was cabbing his auto superb that he had to change his auto box on 48,000 miles lucky for him it was under warranty ,as I am buying this privately I would have to foot this bill myself Mega bucks I would think. Thanks:(
  13. Thanks again for the reply .Can you tell me what you mean by a tuning box please. thanks
