  1. At the beginning of this winter I disabled the heated steering wheel and removed the operational buttons to the front and rear heated seats. In hindsight it was a silly idea to have ordered them. Minus 30 is again pure bliss, like the days of old! Here the saying goes 'Theres no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes'... I also turned the thermostat off in the house and invested in genuine reindeer fur clothes for the family to wear indoors!
  2. Snowed a bit last week. What you can see on the car came overnight! Running 17" Stratos on studded Continentals. Going over to 18" summers in due course. Brilliant silver 190 DSG 4x4. Bags of goodies on a really great car.
  3. @Auswede turning up the Canton sound has been my solution to unwanted noise thus far!
  4. Creaks and rattles from the door cards, dash around the infotainment system and speedo, and around drivers seatbelt fastening in ear height. All of which are much more pronounced and regular in winter. Oh, and centre cubbyhole/ armrest squeaks. But those are all widely reported by others on here too. Also they aren't exclusive to skoda. Recent trips in various 'quality' cars with friends made me realise they all have quirks... But thankfully no squeaks or creaks around the windscreen to report on :-) Got my first chip in the windscreen the other week tho, from a bloody hyundai atos!
  5. Had similar experience little over a year ago in the 'fjällen' (jämtland semester)... Winter, minus 10, nothing unusual. Webasto on for 20 mins or so. Same as you reported. Later in the day, like 3 hours later it fired up first time. No further problems. (Incidentally this was on a family members 2016 mark 3 190 4x4. Didn't put me off Skoda though, mines due for first service in a month, 30km. Mines a 2017 model, 190 4x4 brilliant silver business edition. Löve it.
  6. It is a big car and the camera (when you et used to it!) is a great help when backing out with restricted view. It sees around the corner further than the driver can to begin with. Also it's a great help when hooking up a trailer. Ok, so I survived before without a camera, but it is definitely easier with. imo..
  7. Also drove a 2015 model v70 D4 awd a few weeks back (181hp i think). I also felt the power in the volvo was delivered lower down, making me wonder if it was the quicker car, but when pushed on hard the revs fell away. It was only then i could feel the difference, realising that the Superb is quicker. Just set up differently. If you want the power you gotta push it. And it comes... Btw I own a 190 4x4 (2017). Oh, as a side note; the Volvo also had some creaks and rattles! Made me smile...
  8. Ok, thanks for sharing. Nice wheels btw ;-) Opinions differ fairly widely regarding comfort, so I guess the best thing for me would be to book a test drive at the nearby Skoda dealership to try some 18s or 19s. Interesting to hear also about the suspension being unaffected, but I do wonder about the handling still. Is is likely to be a little sharper on the wider tread?
  9. Hello! Which model do you own if you don't mind me asking? DCC suspension or standard etc...
  10. With you all the way regarding the look of those wheels. I parked next to a similar Superb with Phoenix anthracite recently and i was taken aback. The car with 19"s looked sportier and added a touch more class imo.
  11. Roads here are a mixed bag too, so we literally have to take the rough with the smooth. Appreciate your feedback though, food for thought...
  12. Cheers! I saw that too regarding the current campaign. I think they were around 2500sek a piece for rhe Cassiopeias. Bargains are few and far between here! Still, they look nice and must be easier to keep clean. Have yet to see them in the flesh here, but have seen Phoenix a few times and rhey look quality imo...
  13. If you were driving with DCC set to normal mode would you say there was much difference in comfort, handling etc between the 18"s and 19"s? (Or is DCC in comfort mode on the Sportsline more akin to standard suspension on the regular SE L Business estate version? But yeah, the Phoenix rims do look awesome!
  14. Ive been looking on various threads here, and found a few different opinions regarding wheel sizes. I was hoping i might get some more opinions before deciding upon which wheels to buy... Currently running 17" Stratos wheels with Falken 215 55 tyres. Looking at either 19" Pheonix anthracite or 18" Cassiopea black as replacements. As much as I think the ride is comfortable in my 190 4x4 (non DCC) it can be a touch boaty at times. Therefore I wonder, would the larger wheels make for a sportier feel? Do they have an effect on the handling? Does the chassis feel less floaty on larger wheels? How much difference would there be in the comfort stakes? The larger wheels would definately look more sporty i think, and i have seen other Superbs on these wheels and they look great! The 17"s will be kept for use in the winter months with winter tyres btw. Appreciate any feedback. Cheers.
  15. They come and go. Drivers door, dashboard between central airvents and touch-screen, passengers door, boot floor. Oh, and the storage cubby/armrest squeak. It seems road surface and RPM play a role. And maybe temperature. The central airvent squeaked and whistled once too. Sometimes the car is completely quiet. It's lovely when it is so. In fact mostly it's quiet... then from nowhere it decides to sound like a car that's 5 years old or more. Still really enjoy the car though...
  16. I've owned the 190 4x4 dsg for 4 months. It hasn't shocked me but it's definitely pleased me. Comfortable large cruiser with plenty of grunt to overtake with ease from 50mph pulling very nicely all the way to around 115mph before slowly easing on upwards, reaching about 140mph top speed. It's set up for comfort and smooth driving, but if you put it in Sport mode on the drive selector it'll improve the sensitivity of the throttle and hold a lower gear longer, revving higher. Imo it gives the car a touch more eagerness and is the way to go if you want I bit more fun. The tiptronic gear shift is also nice when preempting curves and roundabouts at speed... As said, the standard drive is pleasant, plenty quick enough and with the Canton sound system I can't get enough still! Great family car. Superb value for money.
  17. Horses for courses I'd say. I owned several brands of car all fitted with the standard factory sound system. VW, Volvo, Ford, Vauxhall amongst others, and they've all been ok. They've played my music and I've been happy at that that. Last year I hired a brand new BMW 435 for some fun which came equipped with Harmon Kardons 16 speaker surround sound system. When turned up to 3/4 or more it would make my chest cavity vibrate and my soul scream. This is a good thing! The sound was detailed and warm at any level, but like the car itself it just wanted to be pushed! So when ordering our new Superb there was no doubt in my mind that it should be equipped with Canton. Not because I had listened to the system, but because having experienced Harmon Kardon in the BMW I knew I needed something more than the standard offerings (I had been previously content with). Imo Canton was well worth it. I agree it's a shame the rear door speakers offer no bass at all, although I travel mostly in the front so it is not a major deal. The extra bass bin in the boot can be a little flat sometimes (this is comparing to HK) but when set at the right level it adds a bit more low end pleasure. There is a lovely dynamic in the front of the car however. Sound when turned up can easily fill the cabin, and at times can resonate in the body. Not Harmon Kardon proportions, but you can feel the music through the sheer volume. It is certainly nearer up to HK than down to the standard car stereos I have previously owned. At low levels I find there to be good overall detail and particularly decent clarity mid range. The equaliser can be played with a little, so as to fine tune. Again, far better than anything i had previously owned, but not up there with HK either. All in all I can say I'm very happy with it. Thumbs up, can't complain. I got what I hoped and expected...
  18. Hello all. Good fun reading Briskoda as usual, so thought I might put my two kronors worth in the mix... I came to this forum whilst still owning a front wheel drive VW Cross Touran (140tdi). Spanning almost 4 years and covering 100,000 km the car felt solid and drove well, and although a bit slippy at times in the long dark snowy winters, I can honestly say it performed fine. T-junction acceleration from standstill in winter was not always great, but I quickly learnt to adjust my driving style! From Nov to Apr we sat Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7's (studded). The popularity of 4x4 here has grown significantly. As has automatic transmission. Petrol is making a slight comeback too, but diesel took over some years ago. Skoda Sweden have been running a campaign for the factory new Superb 190tdi 4x4 DSG with pretty much every extra thrown in for thousands of pounds/euros less than any other car in or around its class. Really great value imo, and on purchase price alone it is definately unbeatable. Tax and fuel are about the same, with a better return on l/100km consumption. So to get back to the script, the petrol 4x4 is as said, only available in 280 format, and same equipment as my 190 would cost an extra £/€ 13000-That's Thirteen! Thousand! Pounds! Now if money were no object!!!... ....and the importance of 4x4? Seriously. What a difference! It is SO much more stable going forward than my old fwd. Acceleration in snow is great. I can 'creep' up icy mountain roads without worrying about sliding backwards if I meet oncoming traffic. The wife feels confident of the cars stability and grip on her daily 80km commute. (The car came fitted with Continental Winter Contact 5 studded btw). BUT. Were we still living in England I would not have been necessarily looking at 4x4. And although I've not driven the 220 petrol, the reviews sound really decent. I have no idea how prices compare, but for the most parts a brand new fwd car with separate summer and studless winter tyres would do the UK proud. Of course there will be times where a 4x4 would be better, but maybe not so very often. Add to the equation that the 190 suffers from a little throttle lag (though I am training my foot to cope)... But personally I am very, very pleased with my purchase. And yes, diesel is seemingly on its way out here. 10 years from now they are talking about battery/electric/petrol hybrids being the norm. But now is now and this was the best deal for us NOW. Again, it's fun to read the differing opinions on here! Have a good evening all.
  19. Hello gizmo It is a combi, or estate version. In Sweden they call the model 'Style' and this particular package of add-ons were sold as 'business edition'. After which I added on rear heated seats and steering wheel. The amount of goodies in the business edition were really impressive!
  20. Thanks for taking your time to write and the tips guys, I appreciate it. :-) Been out driving for a couple of hours already this morning and the car is not looking showroom new anymore! The smaller country roads are 'winter roads' with compact snow and ice and clean to drive on. However the main roads are sprayed with a salt and sand mix and this makes for a dirty car very quickly. So less talk and more action is the order of the day! I am aware of a few local companies that do recon and detailing, so I will be asking around today and gathering some ideas before deciding on anything. The information and 'detail' out there is incredibly vast, so hopefully the people I speak to today can give me the idiot proof guide for beginners version. The car is a real pleasure to drive BTW! Have a great day!
  21. Now a proud owner of... Superb 190tdi DSG 4x4 Brilliant Silver Kessy Canton Smartlink & Smartgate Black alcantara seats Heated front & rear seats (3 zone a/c) Heated steering wheel Webasto diesel warmer (remote controlled) Sunset windows Retractable towbar Ambient lighting Lane assist Light assist Adaptive cruise control Blind spot Reverse camera Stratos 17" with Continental Ice Contact 2 (studded) Shed loads of other stuff... First impressions are really pleasing. Build quality feels solid, engine strong, ride is comfortable. Looks/ design inside and out are definately working for me. Foot wavy boot door opening thing works everytime too! Very much looking forward to an extended run tomorrow...
  22. Hi everyone, I'll be collecting our new car this afternoon from our dealership in Sweden. It's a factory new Superb in brilliant silver and imo looks cools as... My question is what is the general concensus with regards to care of new paintwork? Is there a general stance on what to do/not do? I won't be 'detailing', but I do intend on keeping it clean and tidy. It is the first time ever we have bought a brand new car so any tips are very weclome!
  23. Went to dealership to pick up our brand new factory ordered Superb 190 4x4 yesterday evening. The euphoria was short lived as I pointed out a decent sized dent in the drivers door! After that I went round the car and found two wheels were badly scratched and that the new key looked anything but new! Key football, is that a thing? As though it had been dropped, trampled on, kicked and then scraped along some rough industrial flooring. Talk about anti friggin climax. Left the dealership without new car or having signed contract. The sales team will investigate with the workshop and prep team Monday morning. Until then it's simply to remind myself it's only a car! ...it'll be sorted. Friday 13th delivered, unlike the dealership. But yeah, it was a ****er.
  24. Slowly, slowly, catch the monkey... Actually they're not too shabby to be fair. Right on schedule, our Superb is set to arrive at the dealership this coming Sunday. So all being well they will prepare the 'bundle of joy' over the following week. I imagine the weekend after this one I'll be behind the wheel grinning like a Cheshire cat!
  25. Yesterday I had confirmation that our Superb was built complete week 50 (as originally suggested) and left the factory for Swedish soils...so factoring in the Christmas holidays and what not, it is looking like an early to mid January pick up (initially told mid january). So far so good! Just needed to get that info out there. This waiting game is frustratingly exciting. I'm certainly not wishing the time away, just can't wait! It's like being a kid at Christmas again... ;-)
