Did u ever fix this jonnys i have the exact same issue

Hi all iv got an octavia mk2 vrs tdi 2008 Wondering if anyone has had this issue before If i get in the car and drive it then stop when i go back to the car the trip has reset to zero , the fuel gauge isnt working properly sometimes it goes up and down (not sure if this is linked) , when i turn the car off the rev counter stays where it was before i turned ignition off same as fuel gauge . I done some digging tonight checked the fuse inside the car for instrument cluster and that ones fine , i then went on to check the fuse under engine bay and realised it hasnt got one , so i replaced the fuse then the car wouldnt turn over at all untill i pulled the fuse back out , anyone got any ideas why this would do this? I bought the car with the issue so just trying to rectify it .
