Need to think carefully what 53FabiaVRS has said for sure. If money was not an option I would go for the Focus RS, however even f I couldn't afford it really I would probably still go ahead and maybe regret it!!! - However the Focus RS is a real raw drivers car in my mind, a normal hatch shoehorned with enthusiasts goodies that just about fit, a real one off. The Fabia special edition is a upspeced Fabia RS - a great well put together reasonaly priced reliable fun car with good performance, handling and economy, howver it will never turn as many heads in my opinion than a Focus RS, but that element will by the sound of it not come cheap to maintain over time BTW My nethew has a Focus RS and loves it.

10 th digit doesn't seem to tie up, seems to be the 11th digit on my 3 cars that ties up with above my Superbs 11th digit is 9

If it helps I have had a the convienience controller stop responding a couple of times on an Octavia whilst interigating with Vagcom, the issue was resolved by disconnecting the cars battery and reconnecting. The unit then responded again and could be interigated and have locking options recoded. Cant tell the dealer to suck eggs but worked for me. Also while the unit was not responding all the units components seemed to be functioning as normal.

The early Favorits had a rather basic switch / contact assembly on the handbrake lever IIRC, any play in the pivot of the handbrake assembly used to cause this kind of problem - thats what I found anyway on the ones I had. I would not think it was caused by the driving with it on, they would have been rear shoes that were changed. The mechanic would have adjusted the cables on the lever so could have distrurbed the switch operation. The switch is easily made visible IIRC so should be obvious to a someone mechanically / electrically minded

Thats cars for you unfortunetly - they cost money to keep on the road - all the items you mention are normal wear and tear items and cost money especially if they all need replacing together. Your car is high milage for any car and is to be expected - unfortuanety you own the car when they need replacing - cant advise on costs but they seem in right area, prices could be reduced if you could do the work yourself. I used to have a 1999 2.0 slx by the way stil as good as the face lift model that succeeeded it. Best of luck in your repairs, once they are done you should be fine unless you have engine, gearbox or clutch issues to content with

How sad for you, lost my parents when I was in my late twenties, as people say you never get over it although things do get easier. I have just lost my twin brother in the last couple of weeks - he lived in America and I never saw him in his lasts days just back from his funeral - hit me hard but the best thing for me was having a good heart when I got back with some with some good friends - in your case if you can open up with your dad that will help
