  1. Any local dealers can't fit in a diagnostic session for around a week. After that, once diagnosed, I will see what the score is with what needs repairing and if the warranty will cover most of it, so that I can make a decision. I said to myself that if too many fairly big things go wrong with my next (this) car only half a dozen months after buying it, it's not a keeper.
  2. Thanks very much to everyone for the responses so far. I will strongly consider taking it the longer distance to the supplying dealer to see if anything can be done under warranty. It's just there are lots of major things going on in my life this year and when I bought the car after a terrible experience with a Citroen, I said I would give it three changes. This is the 4th and it's potentially something big and expensive. Either way, I've lost confidence in the car, sadly. Julian1001, great suggestion and sorry for being a numpty but how could this be arranged, as mechanics from experience don't like waiting on standby for a customer to turn up when their car has warmed up?
  3. Two garages have inspected the coolant and oil and say nothing looks contaminated, and the engine bay and all other parts look dry with no caked-on residue, etc. One garage said the 1.8 doesn't have a water pump, which doesn't inspire me. The main dealer is 25 miles away and I'm tired of the sight of them, as I've already had 2 minor repairs under warranty since I bought it in December, plus the DSG was replaced at the dealer's expense just two months' ago. Any more expense is the last thing I can face.
  4. Three weeks ago I noticed a small puddle under my 61 plate Superb estate 1.8 TSI. The next day, the red coolant light came on. It coincided with me getting new tyres fitted, so the fitters advised to just top the coolant up, which they did. A couple of days ago, the red coolant light came on again. I parked up immediately and flipped the bonnet. It was 1.5cm below the min level, so yes, definitely a sudden leakage during the day when it had been parked up from 9am til 5pm. Over that three week period, all I'd done was driven a few miles per day, with no motorway driving. A recommended garage has thoroughly inspected the car, telling me they checked every little component from hoses and the thermostat bolts and other stuff, but they can't find anything. Their investigation included pressure testing and again no leaks were found, not even after running the car to temperature for enough time, then letting it cool with some cardboard under it. Literally everything is bone dry. All they can suggest is an internal leak into the head gasket perhaps, but they don't have the tools to fix it, meaning a dealer job (or another indie garage with the tools?). Bummer. I've not had the car long so this is a bit gutting and I don't hold much hope for the Autoguard warranty, which is the maximum the dealer could offer me at the point of sale. Any ideas, comments, experiences?
  5. Set of 4 x 205 / 55 / R16 tyres 2 x Michelin Energy tyres with 91V load index and speed rating, with approximately 6mm tread remaining 2 x Event Potentem UHP tyres with 94W load index and speed rating, with approximately 5.5mm tread remaining Priced at £140 for the set of four as described and shown below. These tyres were fitted to a set of 16" alloys I bought on eBay recently. Because of my personal tastes and requirements, I decided to get these tyres removed and some new ones fitted, before getting the alloys fitted to my car. This set of four tyres I'm selling was professionally removed and are stored carefully in a garage. They were previously fitted to a Skoda Yeti and will fit the Superb MkII, Octavia MkII and various other models with 16" wheels. Inspections are welcome from genuinely interested buyers, at a mutually convenient time at the address where they are stored. Local collection from CW10 only, but the buyer can arrange a courier at their own expense, for a mutually convenient time. The buyer assumes full responsibility for the purchase, fully indemnifying the seller against any and all loss and/or damage arising, because the seller cannot vouch for the integrity of the tyres, having recently purchased them 'used' from another eBay (business) seller.
  6. The title says it all really. I finally found some used 16" Skoda Spectrum alloys (they're fitted as standard to Greenline models) to replace my Superb II Elegance's original 18" Themisto wheels. This is the swap I am making: 205/55 R16 94V 7J x 16 ET 45 225/40 R18 92V 7.5J x 18 ET 46 Sorry for being really thick but will I need to buy and fit spacers to keep the 205-wide Spectrum alloys relatively in line with the arches, or will they look fine as Spectrums are authentic Skoda Superb wheels?
  7. Good idea. Thanks. I'll run some prices for all-weather tyres.
  8. I've just bought a set of used 16" Skoda OEM wheels for my Superb II Elegance Kombi to replace the 18" Themisto alloys. The question is which tyres to go for? I only cover between 8,000 and 10,000 miles each year, mostly town and motorway with little country lane driving. Because it's a large and not very sporty car, I don't care about sporty driving, but don't want to end up in a ditch. A key priority for me is reducing tyre and road noise, but maybe the drop from 18" to 16" will do this anyway? I'm mainly torn between Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance at the posh end with a 68dB noise rating, or Kumho Ecsta HS51s in the mid-range. Any opinions?
  9. 26DIPP, thanks so much for your very helpful summary reply. I'm really keen on Volkwagen Golf Mk7 "Toronto" alloys. Comparing them on WillTheyFit.com, it seems they will do, but as you say, they won't be flush with the arch but will sit inside with a 'skinny' look, which may look stupid? http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=225&aspect=40&diameter=18&wheelwidth=7.5&offset=46&width2=205&aspect2=55&wheel_size=16&wheel_width=6-5&offset2=46
  10. Thanks, silver1011. Correct, it's a reduced aftermarket warranty with a fairly low single claim limit of around £1,500. I'll contact the dealer shortly hoping they agree to meet me on arrival so that I can demonstrate the exact problem, which occurs when the DSG is warm. Otherwise, they probably won't be able to reproduce it. At the end of the day, though, aftermarket warranties seldom cover components with intermittent faults that haven't completely failed as such. I was really hoping "open wallet season" wasn't going to happen, but it seems that way.
  11. I have checked and 34F7 was done in October 2014 at 39,000 miles, so the car has since done approx. 25,000 miles.
  12. Thanks for that advice. Mileage is just over 60k and the selling dealer serviced it before it went onto the forecourt.
  13. Corrected the OP to say December after checking the paperwork. The warranty doesn't seem to cover much regarding gearboxes, but the service book says it has had the 34F7 recall done, yes. Would a main Skoda dealer sell a car with known DSG issues or how likely would it be for the typical jerky symptoms to develop pretty soon?
