  1. guys i have something making a rattling noise which is tapping against the back window. i have traced it i think to maybe an electrical connector holding the wires to the high level brake light.its around the area where the wires are encased by the rubber grommet at the top left of the boot lid.i need to remove the hard plastic cover that is around the window inside the lid to try to fix this noise .is this doable or will i need to take it to the dealers.cheers john
  2. i had mine "fixed"twice by the dealers under warranty. both times it stopped working a few days after the so called repair.now its out of warranty i dont use it any more.my previous car did not have a rear wiper(rover75) and i was not inconvenienced by it at all.it does however seem like a design fault and it makes you wonder if they have sorted the problem with the facelift model or will it be"the more things change the more they stay the same".cheers john
  3. hi,i note that a couple of people on this thread has mentioned a dynaudio upgrade available for the octy.i have looked on the skoda uk website,no mention of dynaudio upgrade anywhere. can you tell me where i can find more details.cheers john
  4. hi guys my 1.6 fsi will soon be due its first inspection/service circa 34,000 miles and apart from two oil and filter services has not missed a beat in a year and a half. my mate has a garage and i was wondering if i should let him do the inspection also rather than a dealer. he is not a back street johnny but i was wondering if you see any problems i.e.if there is any ecu updates required would i need to go to the dealer to recieve the updates or can he diagnose these with his own diagnostic tools. cheers john:confused:
  5. can't post picture as i'm computer illiterate but just google"pure highway"plenty of pics and great sound all for£70.00.it can be used as a portable dab as well with h/phones.
  6. hi guys, just installed the "pure highway" portable dab radio in the car. brilliant. i have moaned about the a.m. reception from the standard stream to skoda/dealer who to be fair replaced unit/aerial but to no avail .this little chappie now gives me clear radio5 live/talksport a.m.reception anywhere and i'm a happy camper now. question why don't vag give you the dynaudio option foe i.c.e. like they do on passats for those of us who like our music. cheers john
  7. hi guys, after pressing my menu button for approx 10 secs when on mw talksport station my screen says ant off and the signal strength weak. i take it the ant off means that the hu and the aerial are not connected so no wonder the reception is crap. can anyone who has good reception on mw please confirm when you do the above test that the reading says ant on?. if it does i'll be down to the dealers tomorrow. surely they must do this test when people are complaining about the reception. cheers john
  8. hi,guys i have just e mailed skoda uk re the stream radio reception.i think everybody suffering the appalling reception problems with this unit should constantly bombard skoda uk with emails about this till they admit the problem and get this sorted.what do you think?.cheers john:mad:
  9. i too have crap reception on mw trying to listen to talk sport. my fm reception is fine. i have had both the aerial and stream replaced but to no avail. the dealer did not have a clue what to do next. when i am out in the country the reception is better but in town its hiss city, hard to believe vag can't get a decent radio reception in 2007. this has to be major flaw as a lot of people have posted about this and even new cars just purchased seem to still have problems. in auto express i think they commented on the new fabia's poor radio reception as well. cheers john
  10. guys,a quick answer please.will shell helix ultra 5-40 be fine for my 06 1.6fsi.cheers john
  11. i filled up six or seven times with shell helix super 98 and did not detect any better running than with bog standard 95 ron so i'm back to using 95 and my wallets feeling better also. so i dont think the petrol is the cause of my lumpy running. cheers anyway john
  12. hi,guys, my car is running as one poster put it "lumpy" when idling . i can feel my seat shaking and quivering at idle any ideas ?.also the engine occasionally gives out a tick tick ticking sound bit like a diesel sound again at idle and a press of the accelerator clears it again any ideas?. (06 1.6 fsi) cheers john
  13. didn't know about the parking lights re indicator switch position. my previous cars did not have this "feature". i know i will never use this "feature" as i cant see when i will ever need too. does anybody out there use the parking light "feature"?. cheers john
  14. oh and another thing re noises in the octy there must be next to no soundproofing in this car as i can hear every noise coming from anything rattling/ moving about in the boot, can also hear my brakes binding when i press the pedal.never heard any of this in previous cars.cheers john
  15. i didn't realise that if you leave the indicator stalk down or up when leaving the car there is a buzzing noise to tell you about it. it took me a wee while to figure this out.all a bit pointless if you ask me.cheers john
  16. just used halfords own make silicione spray.cheers john
  17. i had no's 2&5 on my o6 1.6fsi. i silicone sprayed all door rubbers and touch wood it not reappeared. my back seat left squeaked and i just slammed it back very hard and it dissapeared. i also had a rattle coming from i think the back left door mechanism and as per a post here i sprayed it with a grease substance and again it has not returned, cheers john
  18. hi guys, im going to get my local garage to do my servicing. i used shell helix ultra oil in my previous car.i assume this will be fine for a 1.6fsi. also how many litres will i need to refill?. is it easy to reset the service indicator yourself ?.i change the oil every 7,500 miles as i drive mostly in the city . is this overkill or would just changing the oil as the onboard indicator dictates be a cost saving to me. cheers john
  19. hi,guys, going over old territory again but, after having a new aerial and new stream hu installed under warranty the am reception is still appalling. the fm reception is fine but i listen to talk radio most of the time and its driving me nuts. the dealer agrees it is appalling and suggests i phone skoda uk and demand an answer. i wonder if any of you have a definative answer why a billion dollar motor group can't get a hu to produce a decent am signal in this day and age. also the reason the sound is so crap in the octy is that the woofer and the tweeters are too far apart. the woofer should be under the tweeters just like in hi fi speakers so that they intigrate sound.another major error by the designers who obviously don't have a hi fi in their houses!!.cheers john
  20. hi all, have had the car two days and thought i'd post my first impressions. as has been mentioned by a few people this car drips with condensation especially the back window. in forty years of owning cars i have never experienced anything like this before. the weather here has been crisp and dry so no rain excuses for the condensation.the back window heater and i use the word heater loosely is rubbish all it does is leave the back window all stripes and the front demister is not much better and i have to use a chamois to wipe the front or i would be there all day waiting for it do clear the window. there is definately a problem with this car and i am surprised that skoda have not done something about this. other than this i have been impressed so far with the driving experience and am looking forward to the future fingers crossed. cheers john
  21. i have removed all my ice from my previous car namely two audison amps one running the speakers one for sub. all my speakers and sub are focals.and a sony h/u. i now have the problem do i get all this installed in the car again or do i do things gradually. i feel when the doors etc are removed to install things they never seem to fit as good as before and develop rattles that suddenly appear. i have not got the car yet so i have not heard the sound system. is the sound system in the ambiente any good as i would like the minimum disturbance to get a better sound so i was thinking maybe just install the sub and amp and leave the standard h/u and speakers and see how it sounds.has any heard/done this before and did it sound ok.what dou you think.cheers john
  22. hi,just closed my mg/rover forum membership and have jumped here. ive just purchased 03/06 18,000 mls 1.6 fsi ambiente for
