  1. Skoffski, is it something that needs doing ASAP would you say? Is damage likely to occur the longer the car is in this position? Thanks again
  2. Thanks for the info Sir. I'm just mopping up my tears!
  3. Thanks for your reply mate. Redex - Its a good independent garage who have never seen that fault before. They're good guys who were just making a general low cost stab at a solution if something was sticking in there. The car is 2013 and done about 69k. The engine light came on 7 days ago. Independent garage ran diagnostic which stated undisclosed fault. It cleared the engine light off and car has been fine for 7 days. But today (the 7th day) and the engine light came back on with the errorn ode stated above. Dont know about coolant level I'm afraid.
  4. Well I've just had my skoda fabia vrs come up with MAGNETIC CLUTCH FOR MECHANICAL CHARGER OPEN CIRCUIT come up on Independants diagnostic. They have said try Redex and if that fails it's the dealership. If anyone had any advice as to how to proceed that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!
  5. Thanks Offski. Will bear that in mind! How long after the 'repair' would you think is reasonable to see if its worked? I'm wondering if they will plan to do another oil consumption test after the repair to check on it so wonder how long afterwards they should be doing that test.
  6. My worry now is that my 6 months spent using the car whilst the Dealership delayed the 2nd oil consumption test may have been damaging my car even more! I wonder if they ever go straight to engine replacement rather than modification first? Perhaps I have a case to argue for this to happen now? PS I'm now booked in for the spray mod in approx 2 weeks.
  7. I did ask this on the phone but he said we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it (or similar). I would like to know where I stand with this important issue. I was thinking I should ask for another consumption test after the repairs to see where it stands.
  8. Hello everyone! The delay has been due to the dealership being typically slack in their responses to S.U.K. Eventually they provided their data of the 2 consumption tests and SUK were not happy! In their view the first test should have been done over more mileage, which is strange as I thought the dealership were only following out orders of SUK when doing this test.... The second test was not disputed and showed my car to be using nearly DOUBLE the acceptable amount of oil. And now, the bombshell: They have offered to fund 100% of the £800 repairs bill. So naturally I'm over the moon with this as I've finally got what should have been done long ago. The Skoda Executive I dealt with was actually pretty good. Always rang when he said he would and after he got the test results he made the offer of 100% without trying to argue/wangle or reduce it further. So I now await the car being booked in for the repairs! My only worry is if the repairs will actually work or not and what will happen then? The car is now out of the warranty period so I don't know if I will get any further work carried out under warranty or not. Thanks once again to everyone for all your helpful comments. Success has just about been achieved! Paul.
  9. Thanks for that Chief. It will indeed be interesting to see. Funny how he only seems interested in the 1st test data. Probably will try to fob me off if the 1st test was done technically correct. They can then try to claim the fault only transpired AFTER warranty expiry.
  10. 1st test - 186 miles. 2nd test - 600 requested by Dealership but ended up doing 750 due to being away on holiday. PS - Still not sure he'll give me a paper copy of the data, but will expect me to be happy with being verbally told of the results. We'll see!
  11. Afternoon all! I'm back with a small update..... A chat was had today with Mr Executive whereupon he has stated that he needs to: 1. Do further investigation regarding the 1st oil consumption test by obtaining test data from the Dealers (surely S.U.K should already have this?). 2. Review the test data to determine if test was done correctly (as above) 3. Speak to S.U.K technical team for further advice & guidance regarding 1st oil consumption test. 4.Get back to me Friday latest. Mr Offski will be pleased to hear I've asked for the consumption test figures to be provided to me as well which he says he will. And so now I await..... But without holding my breath as from my experience Skoda time travels about 1/4 pace. Paul.
  12. Some great points from everyone contributing here which will help me a lot tomorrow. Really appreciate all your time and help. I'm now ready to go get my 'preferred resolution' Paul.
  13. Hi Sittingbull, hope you've had a good day aboard the Venga-bus (?!) Thanks so much for your bullet points - very helpful indeed. I have today done as you suggested, and raised it to executive level. They've told me to expect a phone-call from an Executive within 24hrs so that will be (most likely) tomorrow morning. I can see a couple of points they'll use against me: 1. The 2nd oil consumption test which confirmed excessive oil use was conducted outside of the warranty period. However my come-back is that I originally reported the issue to them well within the warranty period. It is not my fault that they have been unable to organise a 2nd test without months of missed communications. Hmmmm wonder why...? 2.They may say this type of repair is not covered by the terms of the warranty. I have read elsewhere on here that the extended warranty only covers 'sudden' and 'unexpected' failure. They could therefore argue that the car has not failed as it is still roadworthy. My comeback to this? Potentially what you have mentioned in that other cars repairs have been fully funded by Skoda so why not mine...? 3.My car was purchased from a non-Skoda private dealer (with the warranty transferable from previous owner). They may not like this fact, and indeed the Manager of my local Skoda dealership (where the oil consumption tests were done) has declined to contribute to any of the repair costs as it was not bought from them. And that actually (for once) seems a reasonable standpoint, from dealership at least. Paul.
  14. Thanks for replying. Would be great if I could get the same resolution as you. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.
  15. Thanks Rhys, another worthwhile two penneth. I assume this was Skoda UK whose warranty covered all those tests, spray bar mod and engine replacement? If so, then surely they should be covering my repairs as well. PS My car was bought from a dealership with an Extended Warranty that was transferable from the previous owner. Which was one of the reasons I bought it. I reported the oil consumption issues with a Skoda UK case number generated in Feb 2018 and the warranty expired May 2018. Its taken 6 months of fudging and delaying from Skoda but now they admit that its using too much oil. But come back with the 20% slap in the face. I think it will be a phonecall to SUK tomorrow to establish what is/isn't covered under warranty. Surely this should all be in black and white and provable ? Thanks again all
  16. Hi there. Can you tell me, did Skoda UK pay for replacing the squirters under warranty? They're telling me that its not covered and are offering only 20% goodwill... Thanks.
  17. Thanks for getting back so fast. I don't have any of the paperwork pertaining to the tests or parts required however they told me on the phone that what is needed is: Fresh air supply pipe, crank case breather pipe, oil jets (bottom of sump) replaced, new oil = £793.
  18. Hi again Offski! Well after months of the usual Skoda incompetence I can now report back to you all. A second, longer mileage oil consumption test was EVENTUALLY conducted which confirmed that the car was indeed using too much oil. So that was a success at least. The dealership followed their Skoda UK technical advisors of which repairs were required which were costed to just short of £800 parts and labour. Today I have been told by the dealership that the only contribution I am being offered is 20% goodwill from Skoda UK! To say I'm bristling with annoyance is an understatement... The dealership will offer nothing as the car was not bought from them (fair enough). The dealership also claim that the parts/repairs required are not covered under the extended warranty! But seeing that other owners have had full engines replaced and other repairs carried out this could maybe be my bone of contention. I have not yet spoke to SKODA UK regarding this but aim to do that ASAP. So do you guys have any advice for me on how to proceed now? Thanks in advance Paul.

  20. Great to hear and i really appreciate the offer of help. Hopefully I can tango confidently onto the winners podium. When I do it will be the kind comments and advice received from you and others that will have helped enormously. I'll keep you posted of course.
  21. Sittingbull - Before they did the O.C test they topped oil up to the perfect level and got me to drive normally and see when the oil light came back on. The light came back on after 630 miles! I think the oil tank holds 3.6 litres? They agreed that this seemed high and hence agreed to the O.C test. So as I've pointed out the 2 results are not even close. The fact that in your case they went straight for engine replacement was a good result for you. My 'case manager' has already stated that a previous customer with a similar problem got no positive result from all this but said that they will 'do their best for me'. I've already stated to them that I'm not an idiot and that I know there are plenty of other cases of this fault out there (on this fine forum no less!) and that they are risking my future potential custom as a Skoda purchaser. Our 'dance' will continue after the Easter break.... Whether there are other avenues of compensation such as a Skoda enhanced trade in value of the problem car I doubt so it looks like repair, modification or replacement will be my targets.
  22. Hi Sittingbull and thanks for your input. The current situation is: I have raised a case with SKODA UK at the outset of all this. The consumption test has come back as normal which I've said is ridiculous and reported back to Skoda UK. Skoda UK have now passed me on to a 'Case Manager' and I'm currently waiting for Skoda UK to liase with the dealership to see if they can suggest anything else for me. I'm expecting another consumption test to see if the results duplicate but will have to see what they come back with next week. The dealership have refused to give me any paperwork pertaining to the oil consumption test without me paying some kind of diagnostic fee' which also seems ridiculous. Awaoffski has sensibly advised I should demand this in writing from the dealership which I will do. I do really like the car other than this issue so ideally a new engine or at least looking at it to assess any damage is what I would like. As for paying the 4k to replace - no chance. I'd probably keep for another year or so before part-exchanging in if all this fails...
  23. Excellent tips - thanks guys! (BTW I'm not getting e-mails informing of these replies - am i doing something wrong?) In my case I didn't buy the car directly from SKODA dealership. It was from another dealer. The car has 1 previous owner who'd bought an extended warranty which transferred to me! Full Skoda service history obviously. I don't know much about the 'spray bar mod' - maybe thats something I could suggest they do.
  24. Great advice and follow-up options there. Cheers!
