  1. @e-Roottoot for me the DSG is a very different to my manual and having never driven one before will take some getting used to, but I'm happy! I'm finding the auto start/stop a little frustrating as I had more control over it on my manual but I suppose this is something I will get used to or learn to control better. The sport mode and/or paddles, definitely give the same buzz as a manual. Thank you @Darm definitely enough space for the pram. The rear of my seats are leather, however this car has alcantara supports so fabric not like in my old vRS that were leather 😲
  2. Thank you all for the great comments. Finally collected it today after having a few minor bits buffed and touched up. @Stuart-h would love a remap. You never know what the future holds 😉 Fortunately @FUBAR there wasn't any used Dragon Skin Green Superb 280 Sportsline going 🤣 @phil7 test drives at present merely need your drivers licence. I test drove my car with my brother present and the sales guy didn't come with. So if there's a car you fancy or can get a test drive in then go for it.
  3. Battleship (steel) grey sounds like a great colour! Any pics? Hopefully I get the same positive compliments as you did! 'acquired taste' green 🤣 I like that.. Race blue was what I wanted for my current car but buying second hand one wasn't available. Like the red I ended up with though. Can't wait for new car day now though. The auto is just so different, in a good way, I can't wait! My wife has point blank refused to drive my new car (bad experience in an auto). However she only drove my current car twice in 4 years and that was off the drive and down a small hill so I'm not too worried 🤣 Phil, go for the DSG! For the 10%, that's were the tiptronic (flappy paddles) come in! You control the gear changes for your little bit of fun!
  4. Tbh I've only test drove the car at the moment so can only comment on around 30 mins of driving. It was a little weird at first, the car doing the gear changes and my left foot doing nothing but after a while I got used to it and enjoyed the drive. Definitely going to feel the benefit when stuck in traffic. It will all depend on what you want from the car, where you drive to and from and how you like to drive. I do long motorway drives but during rush hour it's stop/start drives so I need the car to handle both (preferably without an aching leg!) Definitely think I'd go with a DSG in future, can't believe I've waited so long. Some people have found it a bit too bright or bold but I'm with you @shyVRS245 I like it. The lady owner did look after it very well and it makes me feel better that she simply just wanted a different car instead of trading it in as it was faulty or starting down that path. Thank you, the baby's doing brilliantly and it's good to be back!
  5. It's in really good condition for 3 years old. Had a good look over the car with my brother and a test drive. Really nice drive. Going to take some getting used to, changing from manual to auto.
  6. Not aware of it being lowered anymore than factory -15mm but the wheels are 19" which I think makes it look lower, unless anyone can correct me?
  7. Hey everyone, Not been on in a while but I thought an update might be in order. So, after the birth of my son (in March) and self isolating for months I thought, with the addition of prams and all that babies need I would cheer myself up with a new car. After much searching and bartering with a nearby Skoda dealership I settled on a new (used) 17 plate Skoda Octavia vRS DSG estate. It has the Black Pack 2 (although probably called something different now), sat nav and full colour maxi dot display. Its done 38,000 Miles and only traded in as the owner wanted a new Superb. I know the colour (Rallye Green) isn't to everyone's taste but I quite like the colour and it matched what I wanted in my next car perfectly. Collection date, Tuesday (18/08/20). Thoughts?
  8. There is a guy I used to work who, who's retired and now details cars. I'll have a word and see how much to de-swirl the car then maintain it myself. Don't think I'm ready for a polisher just yet..never say never though. I followed the steps @MarkyG82 posted at the start of this post and it went smoothly. Surprised myself. Just got to give it a go @maffyou. Let me know what you think of the EZ products, £75 seems a good price. My next task is chips like this..(Made worse by using car washers).
  9. OK, update for you all! I'm both really happy and really annoyed. So after 3 hours I was finally done with the outside and all the windows and about to start the inside when it started to rain, could not believe it so inside still needs to be cleaned (the angry bit). However, think it turned out OK (the happy bit). See what you think. It needs work (as it's been neglected since I bought it, cleaning-wise..till now). Definitely need to look at adding and changing a few products and adding more microfibre cloths and another mitt. Plus a few chips to sort too, more than I thought. Car looking nice and clean.. Close up, not too shabby for my first attempt I don't think.. Number plate re-fitted.. Got some swirls in the paint so need to look at getting rid of those, advice?
  10. @MarkyG82 I probably should have numbered them to be honest, but thank you for your opinions and advice. 4. This was just to get me going, if I don't get many goes out of it, it wasn't too expensive. 5. I don't have any clay bar lubricant and tbh I could have waited to by this as I won't be using it at first, want to get the basics done first. 9. Grit guards are the next on the list and I know are an essential but wasn't able to sort them when I picked up my stuff. What I bought was just to get me going and if you see my other post my number plate came off so want to clean my car before I put them back on. My plan is to start with these products and upgrade to something better when one runs out. I want another mitt for the wheels and/or a wheel brush and a wheel cleaner next. Then it's products for the inside, be another post altogether. 👍
  11. Cheers @AGFalco for your help. Not sure I have any of those but I'll see what I have. You'll see what I mean if you read my Car Cleaning Newbie post. Took the pic on the L-H-S quickly and didn't realise my ugly mug was in the pic till I posted 🤣🤣
  12. OK, so this happened.. Please don't judge the state of the car, it needs a really good clean and it you see my other post I've just bought a stock of car cleaning goodies to do this. My question is this, how can I remove the remaining sticky pads before I clean my boot and bumper and replace my number plate? Many thanks in advance..
  13. OK people, thank you so much for your help. Here are my purchases, let me know what you think; Karcher snow foam attachment, Car plan demon shine snow foam shampoo, Turtle wax glass cleaner, Turtle wax Wax It Wet wax, Meguires 80g Clay Bar, Turtle Wax bug and tar remover, 5 Halford Microfibre Cloths, An RAC wash mitt, And 2 buckets (no grit guards, yet..but it's a start). Thoughts..?
  14. Marky, Wow, that was an interesting read and exactly what I was looking for. A basic guide to get me started. I have a Karcher and although it doesn't come with a foamed I've found one in Halford 😄. I'll check out the 2 bucket method, heard it mentioned before. I was recommended yo watch the 'Car Wash Guru'. I promised I'd look after this car as it's by far the best car I've owned, but I've been lazy and not looked after my car as I should. Samuir, Yes, been far to reliant on car washes, not been kind to my car. Marky, Don't worry, I enjoyed the read. Wolf, Thank you for the advice and where to buy the products from. Good read to. Interesting to see the different products people use. Vrsboi, I'll take a look at them, thank you. Ash007ks, I read your post and the amount of work you put into your car was eye watering. Scary to be honest, but the results were stunning. It's a level I'd love to get to but need to start a little simpler. Thank you for your reply.
  15. OK people, I'm a complete car cleaning newbie with not really bothering with previous cars. What are the basics I need to get started with a view to building on in the future? Pics of products would be amazing and recommendations for website(s)/YouTube channels etc would be good to. It needs a good clean after 2 weeks on holiday, before I use my touch up pen on a few scratches and replace the double sided tape holding my rear number plate on. I have a red 64 plate vRS and love my car but need to give it more TLC when I clean it. Ashamed to say I have taken it to a car wash or 2 😕
  16. Great instructions. How long would this take? I am a complete novice and never done anything like this to any car. How often do these need changing and would you stick to OEM or upgrade/use after market filter? Cheers, Ste
  17. I have a 64 plate vrs and was looking at a k&n air filter. I have a non-modified engine but I'm not looking for extra power just making sure I'm looking after my engine and getting the most efficiency out of it. Worth it? My journey to work and back is 60 miles with most being motorway driving.
  18. Wow sounds complicated, as stated before I’m useless with cars but trying to learn. Would it be too much work to stick a photo or 2 on? Glad they're not too expensive. This is part of my problem, messing up stuff that’s expensive to fix. I’ll be looking out for the ping off. Thank you for the reply. Good to know about the nozzle balls and them needing to be adjusted when they’ve been cleaned/unblocked and that there’s 2 holes.
  19. Cheers ahenners! I’ll give it a try. Stupid question is taking the nozzle off the same as taking the wiper blade off?
  20. Yeah Jonny there’s still a noise as if it’s trying to pull the liquid through. I will check the nozzle again, oh and it’s screen wash with anti-freeze added.
  21. I’ve not been on or posted for a while due to work and being on holiday. However I need some honest help and couldn’t think of anywhere better to come. A while ago I changed my rear windscreen wiper, folllowing all the instructions, and the water then wasn’t as powerful but working. Thinking (and this is how useless I am with cars) I could sort this out I removed the rear wiper checked to see if there was anything blocking the water coming out, couldn’t so refitted the wiper. Now there’s no water coming out at all and I’m stuck. There’s plenty of water in the water tank and the front wipers are working fine. I did do a search and couldn’t find an answer (or missed it). Can anybody help? Thank you. Ste.
  22. Auric Goldfinger, I think I saw that website! ahenners, no there's no specific or real concern about my car getting nicked just love my car and Headinawayoffski no I don't think I would want it back!
  23. Ok, not been on for a while, but recently I've been thinking more and more about fitting a tracker to my car! Is it worth fitting one? If it is, does anyone have one fitted, are they worth the money and what do I need to look out for? Ste.
  24. Specialist, i think is more the fact that that is all they sell.. seem to know what they were talking about in general! They were recommended! Don't know if the pad the other side is the same, only kept this one as had to exchange one of the pads! Might be the jet washing..I have been a bit of a cheat! Gonna knock them on the head and see how I get on! Try the 'two bucket' approach! Maybe try foam washing when I get my Karcher.. check the pads in a few months! if it was the calipers/sliders is this something I could have taken up with Lookers? They didn't say that's what had been done, just what it looked like! No idea what OEM pads look like to compare! Im seriously clueless when it comes to cars, which I why I'm on this forum a lot..
