  1. I am not too knowledgeable on these things but have come to the conclusion that it is possible to replace the headlight bulbs on a new 2012 Octavia Estate 1.4TSI with say Phillips Extreme bulbs. Presumably I need a set of H1 and H7 bulbs. Your confirmation that this is correct would be much appreciated. Do the latest Octavias come with Daylight Running Lights? If not, can they be fitted? I look forward to a little help with these queries. Thank you. :(
  2. Hi LED daylight running lights kit? Advice please. Yes, I have read the threads which touch on this subject, but have not come to any definite conclusion, so I need a simple answer from those of you in the know about these things I wish to know if there is a kit out there that can be fitted to an Octavia Estae (mine is a 4x4 1.9 MkII Estate, 2007) which could be fitted by any reasonably competent garage and will be legal and will not cause any other electrical problems. Many thanks :wonder:
  3. Many thanks to all those offering advice. i have had the repair done and the tubing has been secured with cable ties. Hope it is now a permanebt solution Thanks everybody
  4. My Octavia 4x4 1.9 diesel Estate is now facing it's fourth winter. It's a great car but as soon as the temperature dips below freezing the feed pipe to the rear washer detaches itself. Therefore the rear tailgate fills with water from the washer pipe, until you become aware that it is not working and therefore dont use it anymore. This has happened every winter from new and so far been rectified under guarantee. Yes, it has the correct washer anti freeze mixture for winter. Its just happened again. This time I will have to pay, and presumably when we have more freezing weather it will happen again! Has anybody else experienced this problem? Any tips on curing this annoying and costly problem would be most welcome Thanks
  5. Seat is adding a new 1.6 common rail diesel engine to its Ibiza range. The 105bhp 1.6 TDI returns an excellent 67.2mpg and emits just 109g/km of carbon dioxide, putting into tax band B, yet can still do 0-60mph in 10.5 seconds and reach 117mph. What Skoda vehicles are scheduled to be fitted with this engine and when?
  6. Octavai 1.9 4x4 on Vredestein Quatracs Yes, what a noise and according to my loca garage/tyre fitters the trapped stone will rapidly cut a grove in the brake pad. It needs to be removed ASAP when this happens.
  7. On taking delivery of my Octavia 4X4 1.9, I asked the dealer to fit replacemnt Phillips X-treme main and dipped bulbs. I had to acknowledge in writing that the warranty for the vehicle would no longer apply to the head lights! I have been using them for two years now, they are excellent. Note: Although twice having the headlamps realigned to check they are not in the face of oncoming drivers I still have to turn the headlights down to the figure 1 on the dashbord control so that they are slightly pointing down from the norm. If they are left as set they seem to be to bright for oncoming drivers.
  8. Back in June I reported that the tyre wear was even and at 4mms all round. I expected the tyres, factory fitted Dunlop SP1, to require changing at about 24000 miles. The forum replies indicated that the majority expected a few thousand miles more than this before a change was necessary on similar 4X4's The car was services today at just under 20,000 miles, all tyres have worn evenly but are now down to 2mms. This seems excessive, 1mm per 3 thousand miles, over the last 6,000 miles. Tyres have been maintained at the correct pressure and the driving environment has not changed. I would like to hear from other 4X4 1.9 drivers at to their tyre life expectancy. In light of the above any further recommendations for brand of four new tyres would be most welcome. Thank you::
  9. Octavia 4x4 1.9 - Recommended Tyres I expected the back and front tyres to wear at different rates on a 4x4. Just checked mine at 14,000 miles. ALL have 4mm depth left. I would like any recommendations from other 4x4 1.9 Octavia Estate Drivers as to the make and type of replacement tyre to use (or stick to the factory fitted Dunlops). Hopefully the current tyres will last to about 24,000 miles. Thanks
  10. I would sugest 1.9: Save money All the power you will evr need in todays driving conditions More economical. Recommendations by an "Old Chap" who is very pleased with his 1.9 4x4 Octavia Estate

  13. I understand that with a permanently engaged 4x4 system it is necessary to keep to the same circumpherence/brand of tyres and near enough the same tread depth on all four wheels, to avoid undue strain on the drive components. Would a "crossover" wheel change achieve this at say every 10,000 mile service? I would be interested to hear from other 4X4 drivers about their tyre regime and any recommendations. Thanks
  14. Third Octavia ready for collection next week. First 48,000 miles, a couple of minor problems Second 53,000 miles, no problems. Next a 4x4 1.9 But, a change of dealer was definately necessary
  15. A 1934 Austin 7 Saloon purchased for £15.00 from the Cow Roast Garage/Car Dump at Tring. It didn't go! Two years later, a few more Austin 7 wrecks, and after what seemed like an age of Winter nights in a cold garage (and a lot of bleeding knuckles) there was a fully prepared 750 formula car. Could not afford to insure it, so had to dismantle it and sell the parts. I think I could still strip an Austin 7 down today, but nothing more modern. But the car I really loved can be seen at funfer - Essex Straight Six So, none of this will give my age away?! Rural Relic
  16. September 2002 Octavia 110bhp Elegance Estate 53,000 miles to date. No repairs or adjustments ever. Previous Octavia 110bhp Estate covered 48,000 miles in 4 years with two minor faults. 1.9 4x4 on order
  17. I wish to replace the headlight bulbs on an 'on order' Octavia 4x4 1.9 TDi. Is it just the low beam bulb that is usually relaced and is this an H7 ? I presume it is the same bulb as on any standard Octavia 2. In other words what replacement bulbs do I order, I presume it would be a pair of H7's. Thank you
  18. Hello The 4x4 Octavia 105bhp is now available with 16" alloy wheels (steel spare?) from the factory. Does this increase the ride height by 1/2" or is does the tyre profile make it the same height as the standard 15" alloys? If the height is increased is the speedometer recalibrated or left the same as there is so little difference in circumference. Summary: If the ride height/ground clearence is not increased then I will stick tto the standard 15" wheels. Advice much appreciated "ruralrelic"
