  1. The Octavia Scout is not a cheap car to buy as new, so that's why the high expectations are not met with customers. If you inform yourself from online car sites, you will read that the car is comfortable, quiet, etc. It's just like the video assistant in football - they try to convince you that what you see it's not true. You should really not tinker with seals and suspensions on a new car. Regarding the sound insulation there is no real solution, and regarding the suspension, there can be, if you are brave enough to tinker with it. On the good side the suspension/car are ok for two situations: to drive with high speed on tarmac, and to drive with 4-5 people and full of luggages on a really perfect highway.
  2. Although the seals have arrived, for the moment I have not taken them from the dealer, because I have two major problems with my car that I need to sort out, before I will re-assume my wind-noise project: Have ordered (and received) Audi A3 (8V) seats, -just waiting for installation but they have come without airbags -, and to change coils and/or dampers to make the car softer, because for me this combination of soft-cloth seats -with no lower back support, and that transmits every small shake of the car-, and hard suspension is an overkill, causing backpain and headaches (the car sits on the garage from aprox 3-4 weeks and I use my wife`s car)

  4. Hello, I am about to order my set of A3 seats, yours have heated seats ? And if they do, the octavias buttons for the heating still functions in 3 positions ?
  5. I have the Canton system, and In my findings the volume in the Canton system is speed-dependent. So when cruising in the city, or just listening the music in a standing car, the volume even at max is not to loud (even if in a stationary car, and if the display shows you that you are at max level, you can turn in louder, just the system will not show it - the bars will stiil show max. just the music will get louder). But when at 130 km/h at half of the volume the level of the sound will double than when stationary. Anyway the Canton is one of the best speaker system I have ever had in a car, in my opinion it has a very good mid level, and not too shouty highs, perfectly sounding at the ear-level, creating a very good soundstage.
  6. I have found a lot of Golf 7 - ergoActive seats, and Passat B8 - ergoComfort seats on german ebay, both are AGR approved seats, with a lot of adjustments, (electric lumbar, massage, etc.) Do somebody know which one will fit the Octavia and if the Golf or the Passat seats baseframe will fit without modifications in the Octavia ?
  7. I`v been thinking about it, and in 18 years of driving an owning a total of 11 cars (4 Dacias, 4 Opels, 2 BMWs - and not counting various rental cars in holidays, company cars, etc.) I have never encountered such a bad drivers seat, or never had any kind of back pain issues ever. No offense for Skoda, the car is great in a lot of aspects, and at a very good price too, but they really should be doing something about the seats...
  8. I understand that from a programming point, it must work with the EPB. But from a logical point, If the car(ACC) can use the breaks to stop you completely, why can`t it hold the brakes in the same position until input from the driver or from the the ACC ?
  9. Mine also doesn`t recognize the stopped cars. It is a `safety` feature from Skoda, so allegedly you still pay attention to the road/driving, and it is intended as an assistant, not a real Stop&Go cruise control, so therefore I think it is very unprobable that it can be activated by VDCS. If I would have known that the ACC from Skoda is not a true Stop&Go cruise control (like at VW, BMW, etc.) and that it is limited to 160 km/h i would have not ordered it all.
  10. I can not express the revolt I am feeling....It is just like with the ACC cruise control. I don`t mind that it goes just to 160km/h, but I would have liked to be informed before ticking it on the options list...... (I`m not a crazy high-speed driver or something, but on higways if for example you want to overtake, and do it faster - because maybe somebody comes with even greater speed from behind, you can not accelerate whit the cruise control lever beyond 160 [which in reality is 150 km/h on my car, measured by GPS] ) Apparently this option, for ordering the car with DCC was available for all octavias (including the Scout), starting from June 2016... I just can`t believe that Skoda was so lazy, not to print some new options list with this option on it, or at least to include this option in the online configurator.... Some of you who have ordered your cars starting from June 2016, did you encountered this option in your option lists ?
  11. Hi all and thanks for the great advises. Something truely incredible happened today...I went to my local Skoda dealer, and asked for detalis about my suspension, and he confirmed that I have the Heavy Duty suspensions, and if I wanted comfort option than I have should opted for the optional DCC suspension when ordering the car. BUTTTTTTT, THIS OPTION IS NOT LISTED ON THE AVAILABLE OPTIONS LIST !!!! :o   :wall: :wall: :wall: So, basically, when ordering a new Skoda Octavia Scout, you have to guess by yourself, and ask the dealar if this type of suspension is available for your car (even though it is not in the option list....). That option would have costed 900 euros when ordering, a sum that I would have payed without hesitation (instead of ACC, Canton sound, Electric tailgate or something else...). Now I have the option to retrofit the DCC, completely, whic costs around 2500 euro (just the parts, without the work wages, recoding, etc... !!!!!) I FOUND THIS ABSOLUTELY REVOLTING ! AND I DON`T KNOW WHO TO ADRESS NOW, my dealer want`s just to get rid of me, by saying that my suspension will soften up in time !! (also A REVOLTING statement, and practically a lie). :@ :@ Attached the pictures with my current suspension setup: http://imageshack.com/a/img922/6127/VQ2Frm.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img921/6841/IsgPYj.jpg Also my dealer confirmed that Skoda do set-up their cars differently for different countries. If anybody else from you, who have a good-riding, comfortable Scout, could send me the codes from his suspension setup, or give me a VIN number from his or a show -room car, or something, so that I can compare my suspension setup with his, I would greatly appreciate it (my VIN number is: TMBLK7NE3H0111075)
  12. Thank you very much for the kind responses, I find this forum really useful, supported by a lot of nice members.
  13. I also have a Scout just like yours, and in the initial period it behaved exactly the same as yours when reversing. After 3000 km, now it`s fine.
  14. No idea, but I`m really curios if the facelifted Scout will have the DCC option for suspensions, or just the same suspension as the non-facelift ?
  15. Thanks, will try to put some washers. My car have textil seats and they feel very soft for me, (maybe the leader ones are not so soft), I can feel the lumbar support all the time even if it is not engaged. Actually the angle of the seat feels like all my body weight is supported, concentrated on the lower part of the seat (approximatively where the lumbar support is) and this creates the lower back pain. If the washer „tactics„ won`t be enough, then I will have to change the seats, or at least the drivers seat, for a Recaro Ergomed os Style, or something similar (does anybody have experience with changing the seats ?)
  16. What brand of tires do you have on those 18 wheels ? Because I`v got my car with the 17" Nivalis wheels and Pirelli Cinturatto P7 ECO tires, and for me this Pirelli tires feels especially hard, almost like run-flat tires...
  17. Hello, Any idea on how to adjust the seat base tilt angle in a non-electric driver`s seat? I found that the factory angle of the seat base is tilted too much backwards, and on longer journeys for me this creates lower back discomfort/pain.
  18. English is not my primary language, but according to wikipedia: Bespoke is an adjective for anything commissioned to a particular specification. It may be altered or tailored to the customs, tastes, or usage of an individual purchaser. So after my understanding, it doesn`t says that it is harder, but it doesn`t say that it is the same as the regular octavia, and that it is just a tad higher... I have attached a picture with the hungarian skoda web page, it is a google translate, so it`s not in a perfect english. http://imageshack.com/a/img922/5534/x1MlGF.png Anyway, monday morning I will be at the local dealer, sorting this out, because he too told me that the Scout has a hardened suspension compared to the regular Octavia, this beeing the part of the factory RRP.
  19. Mine came just as in the linked pictures, without a secondary seal, I have also inspected a VRS int the showroom and it did not have it either, glad tough that yours came with it from the factory.
  20. Maybe in UK it doesn`t but in my country it seems like it does. Anyway not a lot of info about this on the web, but I have found this: http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/models/hotspotdetail?HotspotName=M6+-+Paket+pro+%C5%A1patn%C3%A9+cesty+%5BFabia%2C+Octavia%2C+Octavia+Tour%2C+Yeti%2C+Superb%5D&Page=technology&WebID=19e2ce5d-c6b0-414b-9be6-113388595538
  21. Yes, I noticed and immediate improvement especially near the B pillar where the intrusion of outside noise was the most noticeable. I have done the drivers door first, and after that tested it on a journey with a friend by switching positions in the front. The difference is most noticeable at low speeds, and/or around town, because at highway speeds there are a lot of noise anyway....
  22. That`s very interesting, I agree that everybody has his own relative feel of comfort in a car, and it is different from a person to another. Maybe some countries have better roads, so that adds for the different feel of the car, but if so much of you have a totally different experience, maybe something is wrong with my car…? Or regarding the RRP, maybe the Scouts have country specific setups ? And not every country gets the stiffer suspension ? On the UK official Skoda site, I found only this, I quote: And with ŠKODA’s ‘Rough Road Package’ included as standard, the ŠKODA Octavia Scout is equipped with underbody protection for off-road journeys - leaving you to enjoy the adventure whilst the Scout does the rest. No mention of suspensions…On the German official Skoda site, there is no mention all together from any RRP….But in the Hungarian an Romanian official Skoda sites, they are specially mentioned, that the Scouts RRP package contains, the underbody protection and the raised and I quote> REINFORCED suspension… :S
  23. Thanks, but the transport blocks was the first thing that I have checked, and that`s not the case. Where I live in Romania, the majority of roads are bad, so that`s a perfect ground to test any suspension. The car just doesn`t feel settled, it`s constantly bumpy and in bigger potholes the back crashes too hard, for me it feels overdamped. Even on occasional highway trips, on bigger speeds, the front is constantly jittering, the suspension feels nervous and the overall feeling in the car is far from supple or comfy. I am really struggling with this concept of the Rough Road Package (RRP), consisting of hardened coils and dampers…For an Skoda engineer is more important to take care of the car in the long term, and as a result the suspensions components lasts longer? or it should be better to take care about the people inside the car when they encounter `rough roads` and offer them a comfier ride ? Or maybe it`s just me that I want to use my car as a normal/family car, and not carry around a lot of heavy weight stuff on a daily basis. Anyway. I am thinking now, of ordering the complete 4 dampers and 4 springs that a regular 4x4 Octavia Estate has (without RRP), and use some spacers to get the approximate height that the Scout has. (the normal Octavia TDI4x4 has an empty weight of 1550 vs 1559kg of the Octavia Scout TDI4x4, so it`s just 9 kilos between them) Anybody has done this, or have any ideas if this can be done, and besides the dampers, springs and the spacers will I need something else? Or any idea of some coilovers or something to have a more family friendly orientated drive?
  24. Ok, I will post detailed info on the new VW seals, next week (part numbers, installatation, etc. ). For my test setup for the front I have used 3 meters per door, because the front doors already have factory seals on the lower half of them (probably it was much too noisy, that`s why the engineers have decided to put a bit of sealing, just to be a tad more quiet then a Dacia...), and for the back aprox 4 m/door - this numbers can be divided by half if using 1 thicker seal. http://imageshack.com/a/img923/743/VxipEA.jpg
  25. Coming to an Octavia after a BMW 3 series, I immediately noticed and pinpointed the source of the pronounced wind and external noise source. It is coming from the lack of secondary rubber seal around the door, that any modern car has… (in Skoda range only the Superb has it), and this secondary seal (together with maybe some more door panel insulation?) creates, the more `hushed away` feeling that you get in VW Passat for example… (In the VW range even the Golf has it, I believe that is one way how VAG want`s to differentiate Skoda from VW..) I have noticed this only after buying my car, and now I`m working on a retrofit seal, by ordering VW Passat seals, and adapting them… Until the VW seals arrives, I have mounted some self-adhesive neoprene, and managed to attenuate the wind noise with regular 3M self-adhesive neoprene (in the local store, I have found -and used- 8 x 8 mm self-adhesive neoprene, that’s why I have putted 2 rows, I think it would be better if you can find 18x15 or 16x15 mm neoprene, and use just 1 row). http://imageshack.com/a/img924/6620/tmPDNb.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img923/8995/MVSoXV.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img923/7433/82t4XC.jpg
