Thanks for the reply. The software has been done twice and wiring checked as per a technical note from Skoda regarding water ingress of the gearbox ECU. The garage wants to charge me £600 for the ECU even if it does not cure the problem.

There are historical reports of for Citigo ASG gearbox issues either not starting because it does not recognise it’s in neutral or loss of drive to the wheels forward or reverse. My question is has anyone managed to pinpoint the cause. My Skoda garage has had 4 attempts to fix this intermittent problem without success. They now say it needs a gearbox ECU but think they are clutching at straws. Has anyone ever replaced the gearbox ECU with successful results. Thanks John

Hi Did you ever get to the real reason for this problem. Our 2014 citigo started doing exactly as you describe about a month ago. First visit to the garage they updated the software. It went wrong again. They redid the software saying it did not write correctly the first time. It lasted 20 minutes and broke down again and we had to call the AA to get it back to the garage. They then said the battery was defective which was affecting the writing of the software. It was replaced and I collected the car today. It lasted 45 minutes then the red gearbox light was on again although it was driving normally. Couple of hours later started the engine and the red light has gone out and drives ok. Clearly it’s still not fixed. Did you get a permanent fix eventually? Thanks John
