  1. Tried them. They quoted way over what it should be, so that's a no go really. Shame, as they seem like the best of the bunch
  2. I'm looking at getting my DMF replaced and have had labour quotes of £350 + VAT as the cheapest. This seems a tad much to me, so I'm wondering if anyone know of any in Devon, in the TQ/EX area that would be more competitive? Cheers
  3. My driver side window has started playing up. When I use the one touch to close function, there is a bit of squealing as the glass moved up, it reaches the top and then winds all the way back down again on its own and stops. Same happens if I open the windows holding the unlock button on the key fob. Doesn't do it if I close the window by holding the window button, only when using the one touch feature. No squeal as the window goes down. It is a bit like the glass pressing against something, hard to describe. Any ideas? Just another issue to add to the list!
  4. Okay, I see the general consensus here! As the car is still somewhat new to me (10 months) I will hold off until the MOT at the start of July. Assuming nothing bad comes up, I'll get it all done. Probably right about the air con though, as nice as it is, I may just be throwing money at it unsuccessfully.
  5. My brakes have all been done, so that should be done for a while. It's had an alternator clutch pulley as well. I can live without air con, so perhaps I could leave that for now, then at least find out what is the issue and then decide whether it is worth fixing. I think I still will hold off until July for my MOT and if all is well, I probably will fork out for the DMF.
  6. This leaves me with the dilemma of, do I spend out probaby £1500 on the DMF, fixing the air con and the other few bits that need doing. Taking the cost of the car (£2500) up to £5k after the first year. Or am I better off to change it now and take a smaller hit. I really don't know what these cars are like for long term reliability. Mine is an 05 plate, it has now done 103k and is a DSG. It's had all new brakes, new turbo, cambelt and water pump and a couple other bits since I got it in July. Is it really worth paying out?
  7. What can be damaged if it goes bang? I'm reluctant to do it asap because we have just spend a fair amount on the car and it seems to have endless issues... however, if I had confidence in it, I wouldn't think twice.
  8. Before trying the above, I have tried just cranking normally and it makes the squeal for the duration of time before the engine actually starts. So whilst the engine is actually cranking.
  9. Following from my last post where I mentioned my rattling DMF, I'll attach a sound clip of the rattle as I'm not sure how severe it should be before changing. Or do most wait until it fails to change it? It is audible from inside the cabin, but not too loud though. My partner doesn't notice it. 57928516002__3D6126D3-8F81-4374-93F5-EC2DC5D01766.MOV 57928517329__1ACA8B90-FC5B-4225-B170-DAF49A4EEB69.MOV
  10. I'm sure it has only started today to be honest. I've had the windows down all week and not noticed and given the flywheel rattle, I'm quite focussed on any new noises. I think it squeals for maybe a second. I'll have to test it and try again. After the first time it did it, I couldn't reproduce it again until it did it a couple of times in a row this afternoon.
  11. Another issue! Just noticed today that as you start the engine, there is a high pitched squeal for a split second as the engine cranks. Only noticed it as I had the window down. Worth noting my DMF is on the way out as it is rattling quite a bit. Is this connected? This car seems to like to throw big bills!! There is no squealing once the car has started by the way.
  12. The rear wiper on my Octavia hatchback has just stopped. It did this before and I sprayed some lubricant on it and left it overnight and it has worked ever since. My rear washer has always played up. Water comes out of the wiper area outside of the car, but the jet always seems to be broken, so the fluid leaks around the outer housing of the wiper motor outside the car and also seems to leak down through the boot latch. The motor sometimes works now, so I'm not sure what avenue to go down to fix it! Any ideas?
  13. That’s what I thought... the white area has decreased now though. Not fully though. If i have to take it back to the garage this week I’ll mention it. It’s only like that on that one wheel
  14. The pedal still has a longer travel than before. I’m giving it another few days before I take it back to have them re-bled.
  15. Okay. Thanks for that! I’ll give it until Tuesday or so. Garage have said it isn’t a problem to go and have them re-bled if needed, so no rush really.
  16. Just a side note. One of the discs had a whiteish mark on it after my first drive ( didn’t check before leaving ) I’ll attach it. Does it look normal?
  17. Am going to drive it for a day or two and see if it improves at all. If not then they are having it back to re-bleed them
  18. After driving more, the brakes do work fine. But the pedal is definitely looser and inspires less confidence! I’ve sent the garage an email.
  19. Just had new discs and pads all around and two rear calipers. There is way more free travel in the brake pedal than before and it feels a bit spongey. Is this just them bedding in, or is there an issue? Cheers
  20. Turns out, it was the rear disc getting low. Booked in for new discs. It was much worse when stopping in downward slope.
  21. This has happened twice now. Coming to a stop from a reasonable speed it sounds like something is groaning or scraping/rubbing under the car (drivers side I think) I couldn’t reproduce it though. Not sure what it could be? I thought maybe something loose in the car, but can’t think of something that’d make such a noise. Any obvious ideas?
  22. To add, I drove probably 2 miles, 2.5 maximum. Low speed high revs for half of it. Temperature outside was about 9 degrees. Even so, I've never noticed it warm up so quickly
  23. Just an update on this. - due to unforseen health issues that cropped up the same day as my last post, I haven't been able to take the car to my local garage yet. However, a new symptom related to the temp gauge has appeared. It seems to warm up a lot faster than I'd expect it to. For example, after driving for maybe 10 minutes it wasn't far off of 80 - 85. This wasn't driving hard either, at speeds under 15mph. The car was then left for maybe an hour and when it was moved again, the gauge starting increasing almost immediately. The bonnet felt stone cold. Haven't had any instances of it going past 90 yet though, so could this still just be the thermostat? I'm hoping to get it to the garage either this week or the start of the following week.
  24. I tend to check the oil every month or two, I'm fairly certain it was at about 25% of the way between the two lines for a while now. However, I think I'll definitely add it to my monthly list now. Thanks! Just need to get the temp gauge sorted now.
