  1. I probably mentioned before but my wife eventually passed from her cancer last October. I got my Octavia last year and by adjusting the boot stops, managed to reduce the noise a bit. I've kept the car until recently - I can still hear the boom at times but the thing that has sealed its fate has been the incredibly bumpy ride it gives me - my back aches after driving it. So I am finally trading it in for a Focus Titanium tomorrow. Worse mpg and less powerful but should be more comfortable. It's a real bummer as I love the layout, it looks great.. but the fundamental enjoyment of driving has been ruined by sore ears and back! If it weren't for these things it'd probably be the best car I've had. It retained its value ok so that's something, at least..
  2. Tricky timing that one! I'll mention ECU software updates, thanks...
  3. I've been looking at what else there is. The bummer is that the car looks great, performs very well, gets near 50mpg out of a petrol and is packed full of features. On one hand, the best car I've had. On the other hand, the worst car in terms of the number of times it's been to the garage, the bumpy ride (lack of seat padding and poor suspension?) and the acoustic boom. I never went wrong with Ford before so I'll consider them or Toyota (or any other recommendation?). I've just got so much on right now with sorting out my wife's estate and returning to work soon.
  4. I agree - I would take it to the garage I often use but I'd have to pay. This thing is on extended warranty. Pretty poor :(
  5. My friend has one of those tools. I don't have that info, unfortunately... I believe this will likely happen again and it will result in me getting rid of the car next year. I use an official SKODA garage and I don't know if they used said sensor... I think it's going to be a new car next year. Probably back to Ford!
  6. Hello once more. I still have my Skoda (you might remember I posted it is great despite being bumpy and hurting my back... and also I still slightly experience the "boom"). Deeply unfortunately, my wife also finally passed away with cancer. So times are tough. In any case. My extended warranty runs out in March. I've had the car in the garage 4 times now due to the engine management light turning on. Each time it has been lambda sensor failure (apparently!). The sensor has been replaced twice, and isn't cheap. The second time, they contacted Skoda UK who couldn't solve the issue and just said "put a new sensor in." My car is booked into their garage in a few weeks as this will be the fifth time, and they admit it must be something other than the lambda sensor. Has anybody experienced this? Can anybody offer any advice? If this light keeps going off by next March, then I think that will be the last time I drive this car. I'm not saying that as a "dig" - it's just too much hassle on top of everything else. Thanks for your help!
  7. I don't know if that was a condescending reply but this thread has been going for years with no real solution. Thought mine was fixed but it's creeping back in. Good luck if you can manage to find the solution which nobody else can..
  8. Good luck getting the garage to acknowledge it... Solution is to get another car. I plan to but life is busy right now.
  9. Oi@gregoir Oops. Anyway... I thought the noise was gone when I adjusted the boot stops bit very small amounts of it all comes back in. The engine management light keeps going off, and the ride is definitely harsher compared to my good old Ford. Next time I'm going for Ford again, and a car with less features so less can go wrong. I drove one of the new Focus lately and while mpg isn't as good, my back felt a lot better for it and it was sublime not to hear the boom. I wouldn't buy another Skoda again which is a shame as so many other things are right about the car... Other than fundamental ride comfort.
  10. Orange always seems to take the longest so I don't know how that can be the shortest.. :S
  11. Green = scenic route? Red = fastest? Orange = ???
  12. It's like it's a living thing... In any case, some diesels don't even get the economy this thing delivers...
  13. Grégoire our numbers are near identical. The engine is brilliant.
  14. So I got a Backfriend to help posture but I'm definitely getting a sore back still. The car feels every bump in the road. The suspension might as well not be there. The backfriend forces me to sit in the centre of the seat.. which pushes me closer to the gear stick, middle of the car. I think the seat itself should be closer to the driver's side window.....
  15. You're right. So 486.3 miles and filled up 46.13l (10.14 gallons) so 48mpg.. so a 4% overestimate on the computer..
  16. Just a note on economy. I filled up about 2 weeks ago... 46.88 litres at the pump (10.31 gallons). £53.40. 20 or so miles left on the trip computer. Managed 486.3 miles on that with ~40 miles to go on the computer... so add 20 miles (roughly) to take me back to the 20 miles I had left when I filled up --> 506.3 miles. Just filled up again, 46.13 litres, £52.54. MPG since re-fuel showing at 49.8mpg. Actual = (506.3/10.31) = 49.1mpg going by those numbers unless I've done it wrong. So it's pretty much bang on, unlike Honda whose cars apparently exaggerate the economy numbers on the trip computer. Not bad! It's also almost bang on what Honest John reports, which was also super accurate for my old Focus, so I'd always check out Honest John if you want proper economy numbers. I do 50 miles a day plus a little travel at weekends so just over two tanks, or approx £125 or so a month for fuel. That's pretty good out of a petrol... for the sake of another 10-15 mpg from a diesel (and considering diesel cost and uncertainty right now) I think an extra £30 or so in my case for a petrol is well justified, especially how well the TSi engine drives. Brilliant! Note I don't hammer it and 40 out of 50 miles is bypass / motorway.
  17. Right, let me think... Nexus 5x. It's the latest update, whatever that is - I always keep the phone updated. MK3 Octavia, year is 2014... not sure if that's pre- or post-facelift (does the old one have the green badge? If so, mine is the newer one).
  18. Can you connect via AUX to handle calls and stream music etc?
  19. I can't connect my Nexus to my Octavia at all :s Please help!
  20. I've got a Nexus phone but I can't seem to connect.. it's not finding it.
  21. I was a little doubtful but wow! Note to self: tyres changed at 26,160 miles.. Going to see how long these last. They are super quiet, truly - and look awesome. Totally worth it so far!
  22. Woooooaaahhhh the tyres are amazing! Look amazing. SUPER quiet. Less bumps going over road. Possible (TBD) economy increase. Feels like driving a cloud...! Steering is responsive, feels light but at the same time you know it's grippy. Very luxurious feel. Also, if you try to floor it, it's almost like it holds you back just a smidge, but in a good way. I think "progressive" was used to describe this? Early days yet but WHAT a difference. SERIOUS wows...!!
  23. Great! So glad I bit the bullet... after many days of dithering...!! Getting fitted on Tuesday.
  24. Ahhh!! I decided to go for CrossClimates as I effectively saved £4k not going for an Audi... BUT I ordered 94W instead of 91W by mistake. Should it matter...?? They didn't have 91W - I reckon it should be ok.
