  1. Thanks so much for your response, I really do appreciate it!
  2. @FA-BI-A does this reduce visibility or are you only talking about the aesthetic? is there a photo somewhere you could point me towards? Thanks so much for your response!
  3. Very true @SurreyJohn. I guess it's a bit of nostalgia here - Skoda Fabia has been my first car, and I'm happy with it, and so I'm going for the same thing on the basis it's the least change as such. I am potentially willing to spend in the range of £20-£24k for a brand new car, not too much bigger than the Fabia (as we don't need a very large car at this stage of our lives). If you or others reading this have any helpful alternative suggestions, I am more than willing to consider them. I appreciate every single person's response here, thank you for helping!
  4. Thank you @Warrior193 - yes currently my options selections are: Skoda Fabia 1.0 TSI 110 DSG SE L Winter package Park and go package plus with rear view camera Safety Package Simply clever package 2 Travel assist low Light and view package plus Metallic paint Prices for the above are around £25k after dealer discounts, with the £500 deposit contribution reducing price further if I went for a PCP (and I'll also get certain other PCP benefits such as services for a smaller fee). ACC is included in Travel assist low, while Winter Package has the heated windscreen - both of which I agree I want! I am leaning towards potentially removing the Light and View package plus as it's quite expensive, and doesn't add too much of value beyond the standard SE L configuration. While I've been a fan of Dacia too @Carlston - and I agree it's good value for money - it's not got the same spec as the Fabia, and a lot of the conveniences I'd like are not even possible, even if I'm willing to pay more.
  5. I see - but then if all dealers in the UK start with that same price, there’s not much they can do with this right, presumably Skoda have hiked prices? I like the SE L specs and the few packages I like, have been a bit blinkered with it because I like my current car.
  6. I am considering buying a new Skoda Fabia to replace my old Skoda Fabia. What advice might you have for me in terms of options to choose? Any you regret not having chosen? Any advice as to negotiation tactics or discounts also very gratefully accepted!
  7. Good morning all - no, it was just the repairs. I can confirm the toggle fixed it - so it wasn't anything serious, just that clearly the toggle moved things along the display. Thanks for sharing the manual reference.
  8. I'm in Hampshire UK - the outside temperature would indeed have been low single digit (probably colder with wind chill). The temperatures were fluctuating - at one stage -0.5C, then 0C, 1 C etc. I am not sure what a Maxidot display is, so I can't say if I have it or not. I will try the toggle today, because it may be that the mechanic toggled it when the works were happening.
  9. I am sorry, I simply meant automatic transmission! I don't know the differences between DSG and tiptronic, will google it now Thank you again for your responses - but looks like no further work or action is needed. OK - will try the toggle to see what happens, and whether this stops the constant display of temperature (I am fine with it coming on when say the car is just starting, but all the time just distracts me!). Yes, this was yesterday night when it was pretty cold out there. Work - sadly my car broke down 😞 and had to get a few things done - water housing replaced, alternator belt replaced along with related tensioner / pulley.
  10. Good morning all and thanks for your responses and help Yes it’s the same car - it’s a DSG Skoda Fabia 2009 plate. I don’t know what it is, I don’t think it’s the engine temperature, I just don’t know what it is and hence my question. I had it taken to the garage recently for some repairs, perhaps they switched some setting on the dash? What does ambient temperature mean - is it simply what the temperature outside is? I just am a bit distracted when it shows up and then keeps changing, wonder how to get rid of this - unless it’s a warning which I don’t think it is.
  11. This has happened recently somehow - but my dash is constantly showing a temperature. It goes up and down as I am driving and it's distracting / I don't know if it's actually a warning. Any ideas why this is showing? To be clear this isn't the blue warning light to do with engine / coolant temperature. Thanks in advance!
  12. around 65,000. I must have only driven it some 10-11,000 miles in the 5 years I've owned it. F1 autocentre always used some sort of synthetic oil for which they charged me extra, over their advertised service cost. Apparently the VW engines need these.
  13. @e-Roottoot Thanks. I don't understand your point about the gearbox oil change. Is that different to an engine oil change? I guess it is. I don't know, I haven't specifically done this. I have done my usual services at F1 Autocentres, not sure if they change the oil in the gearbox. We're in Hampshire. Relatively cold but certainly not as much as in Scotland! My journeys are short-ish (3-5 miles one way) most times, but also a few occasional long drives.
  14. @e-Roottoot I went to a Skoda dealer last year, so I'd like to think they used the right / the best oil. My logic is simply that if I don't drive so often, then the oil might last longer, and so why don't I skip a year and simply get it done next year. If there is any fatal flaw here, please let me know. I'm not an expert at all with these things, happy to listen to good advice.
  15. Hi all, I have a 59 Skoda Fabia automatic, which I use very sparingly - only around 2-3k miles each year. It was last serviced at F1 autocentres in 2019. I then got just the oil and filter change done in 2020 at a Skoda dealership, where I had to go, because it also needed a seat belt replaced. Considering my low mileage, could I skip the oil and filter change this year and just do a proper service next year instead? I am spending a fair amount this year on repairs - tyres, new front brake discs, front and rear brake pads, wheel alignment and brake fluid change - and could do with saving some money. Any advice welcome.
