  1. My 2014 VRS TDI came up for a major service so decided to have the water pump changed last week (after seeing all the forum posts in here about overheating) All in all I had the following done: New Water pump + Cambelt DSG oil & Filter change Full Major service New front Pads Diagnostic Courtesy Car for 2 x days Came in at roughly £1250, this was by a local specialist dealer who i cant recommend enough, brilliant service. Car had only done 38,456 miles but I decided to have it done for peace of mind, and since I share the car with my other half I prefer to keep it in best mechanical condition I can, although ive never had an issue with this car overheating, I know a friend who had no end of problems with his golf GTD, and since the cars are quite similar engine wise I thought it best to be done.
  2. I purchased my 2014 VRS TDI estate back in march and had the similar concerns about the euro 5/6 and the new charges being implicated by the government / councils under the N0x emissions. The engine in mine is 100% a euro 5 diesel engine. I decided to stay with a diesel as I do a fair few miles every week and its giving me a solid 46/47 average MPG with a REVO map installed (plus I wanted something with a load of torque for shifting loads). I Checked the VIN on the skoda website for any re-calls and I don't think the EA engine currently needs a re-call. I test drove mine twice to make sure I could live with a DSG (I've never owned an auto before this) and can say although sometimes it does feel like the box has a brain fart pulling out at junctions its a pretty solid box and I enjoy driving it as much as my other manual cars. I feel the car is very well spec'd for the price I paid, and shows up other fancy German cars which cost quite a bit more.
  3. I had the TDI VRS re-mapped a few weeks ago and put the REVO stage 1 map on. The car is now a very quick estate and shows up cars would cost quite a bit more. Its defiantly producing a lot more torque in the low end of the rev range, and the shove from 40 - 70 is very addictive through the DSG box. I do roughly 60 miles a day 6 days a week (without personal mileage) with a mix of 50/50 motorway and town. The re-map has made perhaps a 1mpg decrease in my average consumption. Averaging 46mpg at the moment. I went with REVO because I used them for all my ford's and never had an issue with any of their maps, and they have a pretty good following. I know this would now fully invalidate any SKODA warranty repair, but since its a 2014 is come to the end of its warranty life cycle anyway. I cant comment on any of the DTUK boxes as id never heard of them before biting the bullet and buying a diesel!
  4. Just an update from me on this topic; I had the car checked over by a local VW/SKODA/SEAT specialist when i had the REVO stage 1 map installed. The technician told me my car had the same ECU software from factory and hadn't had the small minor updates it was due over its previous servicing schedule. He updated the system software and the over cranking seems to have dissipated (5 weeks ago and still nothing). It might of been maybe the previous owner missed a small update to the ECU, as the technician did a error code lookup and found nothing being flagged up code-wise.
  5. I've given it a few days of trying to start the engine almost immediately after flicking the ignition on. Whilst the mornings are still about 5 degrees, It starts almost immediately with maybe about 2 secs of cranking now, so it was me being a wally and leaving the ignition on. It still doesn't fire into life straight away but looking at some of the replies when it goes in for its MOT I'll be inquiring about the software fix, even if it does look like they seem rather reluctant to install it.
  6. Thanks for the reply guys. The car was purchased from motorline dartford, it's a 14 plate with 31,000 miles and full service history. I didn't realise the glow plug system only came on for roughly 15 secs, I'll try to start the car immediately and see if that cures the issue, as by looking at the replies I'm making a mistake by fiddling with all the gizmos before starting.
  7. Hi guys; I purchased a mk3 Ovtavia VRS TDI estate last week (love the car, a great improvement over my fiesta ST!) and im not too sure if i have an underlying issue at play. Long story short, the last few mornings when the temperature around the car is roughly 5 - 11 degrees , the engine feels like it struggles to start. When i get in the car in the morning i turn the ignition and and leave it on for roughly 30 secs whistle i connect my phone to the Bluetooth, set the heating up etc before i attempt to start the car up. It takes roughly 5 - 10 sec's for the car to tick over and start. Once the car starts it drives perfectly with no lumpiness or juddering and No engine light / glow plug lights. When i drive home in the afternoon the car starts perfectly with no issues and if my other half uses the car in the evening there's no issues, just seems to be cold morning starts. Could this be an issue with the injectors with the cold weather, or is there probably something more sinister at play?
