  1. thanks - i'll try this at the weekend aswell. as no-one has mentioned anything about replacing an o-ring (or seal) can i safely assume one is not needed?
  2. i'll give it a try over the weekend and see how it goes - thanks for the reply
  3. hi, i've looked through all the other posts on this subject and no-one seems to have had the same problem. we bought the car in october and it was quite abused by the previous owner, no oil changes etc, so we want to check out all the levels thoroughly. i've read the haynes manual and followed the instructions (precisely) but the speedo drive gear doesn't want to move. the bolt was removed quite easily and the clip slid out quite easily too (cleaned them up a bit as they were quite grimy). could this be down to the speedo drive gear having seized in place (the speedo is still working) or does it just require a bit of force to remove it? i haven't pulled too hard on the speedo cable as i don't want to damage the cable or the drive gear. also, do i need to get a replacement o-ring (or seal) for reassembly after i have checked the oil level? (as the haynes manual doesn't say) thanks in advance
  4. I had a similar thing a while back - the engine revs were dropping too low. If it is anything like mine you may find it start stalling when you de-clutch when breaking. To solve it I cleaned out throttle body (in place not a removal job) and checked the throttle cable tension (all that holds it in place is a single circlip) mine was very loose and I think this was root cause of problems. Hope this helps.
  5. Hi, I had a similar problem - the revs dropping very low, a bit of a rough idle and the stalling when the clutch is depressed. I managed to solve my problem by checking the throttle cable and tightening it (there's a small clip on the throttle cable that is easily removed and replaced with a pair of pliers). I also gave the throttle body a bit of a clean (there are many posts on here about throttle bodies, they will run through the cleaning - I didn't remove mine just took the cover off and cleaned it carefully. IMPORTANT NOTE: When cleaning it in situ do not drop anything in through the throttle body, it will be very hard to get it out without removing the throttle body). Give these a try, they worked for me.
  6. Hi - had a look round at other forums about noise limits. The general consensus is there are no limits for cars (bikes do have a limit though). I think the situation is: There is the possibility of action being taken against you via the back door if it is too loud - statutory nuisance, common law nuisance or section 82 of the Environment Protection Agency act 1980 (but all of these are taken by individuals against the owner of the noise by common law, or the local authority if it comes under statutory nuisance). But it is unlikely that anyone, apart from maybe your neighbours, who would have a cats chance in hell. Phew, that was a mouth full. Hope that helps.
  7. Sounds exactly like our leak - which was the windscreen. We just put a line of clear silicon sealant along the bottom of the windscreen which solved the leak.
  8. If you have a 1.3 then check any scrap yard for a Felicia 1.3 or an old Favorit - they both use the same caps. Hope that helps.
  9. Ok - you've checked the fuse, did you check the relay? It should be in the fuse box with the others. Hope that helps.
  10. Hi - just replaced my exhaust (from the cat back) for
  11. A 1988 (E) Vauxhall Nova 1.0L - Saloon (a granny wagon). Had 105k on the clock when i bought it - was ok, but manual choke was a pain. My eldest brother started off with a mk2 Jag (a la Morse) - where did I go wrong?????
  12. Had a quick read thru' the above web document and found this, 'Note that the requirement to provide repeater signs to indicate that a road is subject to the national speed limit only applies if the road has a system of street lights (lamps not more than 200 yards apart).' So you should be fine doing 70 (or 60 if it changes to single carriage way) on that road. Hope that helps
  13. I may have found the answer to this question here - ABD - Speed Limit Signing Requirements Its long winded documentation but should provide all the answers. hope that helps
  14. 'Better to run away, and live to fight another day.' (Old proverb - no pun intended) Like everyone else, i would have floored it - letting the police know at the time, as the next driver may not have been as sensible. (I would be eaten up by the paranoia of a camera too if I didn't tell the police of situation at the time). Relax, you made the best choice in a bad situation and the police will understand.
