  1. Short and simple because of crap circumstances I have two Skoda Ocatavia mk1 s in which need help. Its at the point of me considering saying farewell so need advise on options as I want them going where they can be helped back to there worth. If anybody can advise or interested please get back to me for more details. Skoda Octavia 1999 SLXi 1.8 20v turbo petrol manual silver hatch 5dr full leather Skoda Octavia 2003 VRS 1.8 20v turbo petrol manual silver hatch 5dr half leather
  2. Thank you for the sound advise. Car mechanics and engines tech are not my field of expertise but however having purchased only 6-7 months ago a Mk1 octavia VRS 1.8 2003 in which developed problems engine electronic errors (Temp Mapping - Cam shaft air intake -) along with oil pressure/flow/level/pick up oil contaminated carbon flecks intermittent slight rattle at idle and low speed developing into more noticeable constant rattle on engine...............SEE MY PREVIOUS TOPIC FOR DETAILS... Basically 4 weeks ago after engine inspection advise was engine needs to be replaced rattle is cam chain secondary knocking about????? Looked into used engine option but risky and with fitting costs and all other parts such as turbo may also have suffered from oil problem oh MOT expired hmmm timing belts too much. I have gained some engine know how and seemed to have diagnosed from research the problem but too late perhaps....... BAD OIL FLOW PICK UP PRESSURE CAUSING DAMAGE CAM SHAFT AND TOP ENGINE RESULTING FROM OIL CONTAMINANT ENGINE WEAR RATTLE CRANK SHAFT DESIGN FAULT CAM SHAFT ASSEMBLY ?????? lots of this on Mk1 forum relating to error codes displayed in my previous topic. So with the mk2 EA113 engine you mentioned timing belts with link chain tensioner and some issues with oil usage is the set up same as the MK1 engine AUQ because this is what concerns me as I am thinking to get Mk2 2006 Tfsi but having had the Mk 1 problem its a big worry. Thanks again for the help
  3. Having just had my mk1 vrs 1.8 PETROL suffer from similar fate I was considering purchasing Mk2 tfsi vrs 2006-2007 but am seeing this problem a lot on this forum. I have read about an updated timing chain kit being available and was wondering if this sorts it and if anyone knows the name or part identification details. thanks
  4. Seeking advise for Skoda Octavia VRS 1.8 petrol manual 2003 In which has suffered with oil pressure and contaminated oil problems. I have only had car for six months in which initially was running good. Please note I have listed details of the faults and procedures of repair below. Due to being advised in that the engine has damage from the problem I am now seeking to replace engine and looking for sound advise for this due to minimal knowledge of car engines. I have found several used engines but am concerned and not knowing if there are any other parts which were affected on my car from the faults included or required. Some used engines come with ancillaries but most are bare engines and I want to avoid passing the oil pressure problem onto replaced engine. FAULT DETAILS 17704 error mapped cooling system (P1296) - 18010 power supply term 30 voltage low intermittent P0012 Advance set point not reached 16396 Bank 1 camshaft air intake. Firstly car was running smooth when engine electronic fault warning (yellow) came on in which the codes above were found after diagnostics. Soon after it developed intermittent problems - TEMP was too low - OIL PRESSURE Red flashing warning kept coming on and became more frequent. TOP ENGINE CAM - Started to rattle not always but became more frequent and noticeable at idle low speed. SUMP- Dropped and inspected found traces of carbon in oil and strainer was clogged. Replaced strainer and pick up pipes were cleared not sure if they were replaced. Oil change and filter. This did not top the oil pressure red flashing problem and the engine fault light came back and it was again running intermittent rattle and low temp. Next step was replacement of Temp thermostat and oil pressure switch. This seemed like it was sorted and car ran better however soon it began sounding tappy at front idle not always but began getting more frequent and worse. Then engine fault light came back on and oil level warning (yellow) engaged although level was okay. Temp was too low again and not as frequent as b4 oil pressure red warning would come on at hills bends slowing down after motorways. Had second diagnostic and 17704 was back not confirmed if the other errors were though. Then the rattle tappy top end has become very bad and constant. The temp sensor possibly is the cause of the 17704 error and that was plan to sort next but due to the rattle it seems like the cam shaft has suffered from the oil pressure issue and this had happened b4 i had car as in history notes on oil pressure and contaminant in oil work was done then turbo changed oil cooler and related other bits. Final diagnostic metal fragments in oil found again cam chain knocking about engine damage. THANKS
  5. Okay now have inspected top of engine and not good Cam chain culprit for rattle adjusting fault, the oil pressure and temp mapping errors linked to this as thought and silver shiny flecks of metal in oil so engine pretty much had it. Having only had this car for six months I am considering options for replacement engine. My budget is limited and costs need to be economically viable with the consideration of cars value and condition. Used engines seem to suit my budget but there are some criteria and questions in which I require advise and knowledge for. 1) My car has been remapped 200bhp my tech car knowledge is limited so I assume the remapping is at the ECU im not too sure but I ask if I replace engine will the remapping work still. I have sourced a few used engines 1.8 petrol VRS AUQ with all ancillaries and service stamps etc... £295 - £700 need to find out how much to fit any help very welcome.

What options are there for this as it looks like top end cam shaft is doomed advise on replacing or reconditioning.
  7. Just to recap and clarify. I purchased car this year end of March ran perfectly until 200miles when yellow engine electronic fault engaged. 1/ no symptoms had diagnostic check error codes found listed in first post above errors reset. 2/ Car started to sound rattly low speeds and idle running. 3/ Yellow Engine Electronic fault came back after 200miles along with the red flashing oil warning symbol coming on for a bit then off then comes on again often after motorway drive and driving lower speeds hills. 4/ Car was running intermittently smooth at times then rattly. Same goes for the red flashing oil warning it stopped for a while but then returned again. 5/ Sump dropped further investigation found small deposits of carbon in oil and clogged oil strainer. ( OIL - OIL FILTER - OIL STRAINER REPLACED ) ENGINE ELECTRONIC FAULT: ERRORS NOT FOUND RESET. 6/ No change oil warning red flashing continued and 200miles later engine electronic yellow fault back. Same intermittent symptoms. 7/ Oil pressure switch replaced this stopped the oil red flashing warning and car ran smooth 8/ 200MILES later yellow engine electronic warning back on this time yellow oil warning engaged and engine warning has come off but then returns on again. Note that listed in history a year ago oil pressure switch and oil contaminant problem was worked on. Finally I have not noticed mayo oil but have noticed in boot a box with oil cooler and wrote on box is no seal supplied so old seal used hmmm!!! could be the culprit. Im not really qualified or in the know with engines too much but it seems if the oil cooler was replaced but old seal used it would be prone to not work or not work for long depending if this would then identify as engine electronic fault and cause all the intermittent temp pressure rattly oil warnings and symptoms if so i hope that i can finally nip in the bud and prevent more searching and costly garage bills and drive the car and have fun Looking at error 17704 error mapped cooling system is this linked to oil cooler would it show up as an engine fault if faulty and would it cause oil pressure and running problems also the thermostat temp gauge sits too low at times
  8. Thanks for advise. Engine electronic fault yellow warning came on first then red flashing oil warning this was apparent after end of motorway drive at slower speeds also hills and bends. When oil pressure switch replaced car ran smooth and oil red flashing light stopped coming on but yes engine electronic yellow fault warning soon did, but did go off on its own accord without going in for a diagnostics but then came back on again with new problem oil warning yellow light engaged. It runs okay but like said intermittently it rattles and displays engine yellow fault with now yellow oil warning. The oil pressure switch and a mapping sensor were noted in history only a year or so previous to now with a engine flush due to contaminant found in oil maybe related or same problem. Nightmare as barley had the car 2months and this fault is a burden for sure stopping my chance to enjoy this car fully and thinking that it could lead to engine failure.
  9. Skoda Octavia VRS 2003 1.8 petrol Engine electronic fault warning light (yellow) came on. Engine was running okay but developed intermittent rattly camy sounds. After diagnostics following error codes were found: - 17704 error mapped cooling system - 18010 power supply term 30 voltage low intermittent P0012 Advance set point not reached 16396 Bank 1 camshaft air intake. The fault was reset and advise was to see if it returned because if so further investigation would be needed. Frustratingly the feedback was a bit vague. Within next few days the car began to run rattly again the Engine yellow fault light came on again after 200miles. Then more problems began to emerge...... Oil warning light began frequently flashing red for several seconds. After taking it back the diagnostics didn't display the errors as before there was carbon traces in oil and oil strainer was clogged the oil was changed filter replaced and strainer replaced. The engine fault light came back on again after 200miles and oil warning flashing red frequently continued also. Upon returning for more investigation I was told without pulling apart the engine and racking up 1000s to find problem there was not much more that could be done. Not what the doctor ordered However the oil pressure switch was replaced and oil warning red flashing light stopped and car was running smoothly again but 200miles later engine fault light back on and just recently yellow warning oil light came on (oil level fine) it is off now but I think it may be due to the reset from opening bonnet if its fitted to my model so expecting it to return. Finally the thermostat temp display shows low temps 50 at times it should be 90. HELP HELP AND HELP what can I do any advise would be very appreciative.
  10. 1/ Engine fault light came on 2/ Diagnostic found errors - 17704 error mapped cooling system - 18010 power supply term 30 voltage low intermittent P0012 Advance set point not reached 16396 Bank 1 camshaft air intake. 3/ Further investigation after fault warning came back on after diagnostics 4/ Oil warning light is now engaging for few seconds after 5 miles from starting seems when wide turns or hills and after motorway or dual carriageway when low speed driving straight afterwards. 5/ Rattly tappy engine now 6/ follow up diagnostics then showed no errors 7/ sump dropped and carbon in system oil changed and filter plus replaced clogged strainer Engine fault not yet come back on but only 20 miles covered since procedure 7 after initial diagnostic engine fault came on 200 miles later however the engine is still rattly and obviously not right and also the oil warning light is still coming on for a few seconds constantly. Note listed with the cars history last year there were receipts for oil pressure sensor, oil cooler and treatment for contaminated oil hmmm
  11. Recently purchased VRS 03 plate all seemed good until engine fault yellow symbol lit up, although no symptoms at first. After a diagnostic some faults were found but no obvious cause. (codes can be supplied if helps) After resetting all was okay untill 200miles or so when the engine fault light came on again. Then a few days later oil warning light would come on for a few seconds flashing (this would occur after motorway drive on slower low rev conditions and sharp turns or hills) It carried on and occurred more frequently. Now it is very cam'y sounding. I had another diagnostic but no errors this time (weird) so the sump was dropped to further investigate the results found carbon floating about so a oil change and filter with oil strainer seal replaced. No good still oil warning light still keeps coming on for a few seconds lots of times and still tappy cam'y noisy up front. I need help or advise as its painful having only just got this car and cant enjoy it due to this and the money is being sucked into trying to identify cause. help would be very welcome
