Replacing Columbus with Kenwood Headunit
Johnosul replied to Johnosul's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Thanks Pab567 for your response and for your suggestion of retrofitting an Amundsen MIB STD2 PQ. I had watched your youtube video of this and your previous posts to the forum on this. The unit does look good but addressing all the issues and recoding, adding gateways etc to ensure that it works fully in the installation process seems complex, and certainly too complex for my limited technical abilities. While there are some audio specialists who I have spoken with and who could potentialy help, they are not certain of what is required and whether the system will fully work without having the car and the unit. This, I guess is the issue. I don't want to buy a unit and then find that I can't get it properly installed! It was for this reason that a 'like for like' replacement is more appealing (notwithstanding the cost of these Kenwood units). You mention that you were not happy with your Kenwood unit. I have read that the screen resolution is poor and difficult to read in some light conditions but with the exception of installing the digital aerial, everything else seems okay - full functionality, including electric seats, climate system etc seems to provided in the same way as with the Columbus system. I have also not seen any report of it not working with the MFD dashboard system. Can you tell me why you were not happy with yur Kenwood system. Again, any insights greatly appreciated. Regards, John -
Dear all, The Columbus unit on my 2014 Superb II (L & K Combi) is playing up. The issue I am having where the unit repeatedly shuts down and reboots has been reprted previously on the forum. In any case, rather than a repair, I am considering a replacement headunit. I had considered an Android replacement but issues with the loss of some functionality has caused me to reconssider this. I am now considering a (kind of) like for like replacement with a Kenwood DNX518VDABS unit. I am wondering whether others have gone done this route and whether there are any showstoppers/ issues with which I should be aware. Full functionality/ connectivity of existing features are important. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, John

Superskoda Mega-Power license plate LED lamp units
Johnosul replied to Johnosul's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Thanks to all for your contributions. All very valuable. It would seem that my car is fitted with the facelift model connectors and that I purchased the incorrect units from Superskoda (bit of a pain!). Anyway, it would seem now that the units (non LED in Silver1011's last post and the LEDs in 3T1704X4's post) are both options. The non-LED units will work fine I suspect, with no issues but the LED units will require coding. Is this coding straightforward or will it require a visit to a main dealer? Again, any help appreciated. Regards -
Superskoda Mega-Power license plate LED lamp units

Hello Silver1011. The existing connectors will not connect to the new connector blocks on the new units. There may be some adapter that would make this possible. Alternatively, I could connect new connectors to the car wiring. I was posting to see if others have had similar issues with these units. Regards -

Thanks Silver1011 for getting back to me. My Combo is January 2014 so before the facelift. I thought that connecting these would be straight forward. Not so however. I am not even sure whether the resistors are necessary? Again, any help much appreciated. Regards -
All, I have seen this discussed on the forums here but have not seen the information that I am looking for. I suspect that this may be pretty straight forward, but I am struggling to see how these light units are connected. I have pulled the existing light which is pretty much done. The connector that I am left with is shown in Image 1 (1204). The purchased lights and conversion kit are shown in Image 2 (1205) and Image 3 (1206). How does all this fit together and are new connectors required. The existing connector (in full or in part - with outer shell removed) does not connect to the new unit. Any help much appreciated. Best regards

The battery fine. When you say bad battery, are we talking about a low voltage. I can check this.

Thanks skippy41. I hadn't tried this. I think the default position when starting the car is that this is no. It can be switched off when the car is furring for sure but I'm not sure that the car can be started with this off?

Thanks bigjohn. The problem was there before and after the fuel filter was changed. Interestingly, the car has never failed to restart when in start/ stop mode. If I was a betting man, I would think the problem might like with the start/ stop button. My concern is that a time will be reached when it not just start! No faults were logged when recently serviced - this as a dealer service and the issue with the cutting out was there prior to this service. Regards, John

Thanks skippy41 for the suggestion. Fuel filter has been changed so this is not the problem.

Hello everybody, I am new to the world of Skoda and indeed to this forum and I look forward to engaging with, and contributing to discussions. Anyway, I recently acquired a Skoda Superb Combi (L & K model with the diesel 170 bhp engine and DSG box) which I love. The car is equipped with the kessy system. I have started to notice that the car sometimes (not always) cuts out immediately after starting (up to three or four times on some accasions before it stays running). I don't recall the problem occurring in the morning and this suggests that the problem is more acute when the engine is warm. This however, might just be my perception. I'd be interested to know whether others have experienced similar problems, and if so, are they easily fixed. Any help appreciated. J
