  1. I've just bought a spare wheel from eBay for my recently purchased fabia and I was equally excited to receive and fit it! Would have been easier, if less exciting, if Skoda had fitted one as standard.
  2. Thanks for all the replies. Think I'll use it for a while, around town, and see if any bulges, etc develop.
  3. Thanks, I'll check for exposed cords.
  4. I hit a pothole last week and didn't give it much thought until one of the neighbours was complementing me on the new car and asked "what's up with that tyre?". Obviously the pothole had taken a chunk out of the tyre sidewall. So, in the opinion of the knowledgeable folk on here, is this tyre still useable or do I need to replace it?
  5. My new, different eBay dongle arrived this morning. Plugged in, synched to phone, purchased one week app and enabled all the features I wanted, all in 10 minutes. Much happier now! I'm presuming the fault lay with the eBay dongle I tried previously.
  6. Thanks. That's the annoying part, only needing it to work once!
  7. So having owned my 2014 monte carlo for two weeks I finally got around to opening the bonnet. Opening the bonnet was no problem but when I came to close it my usual method of gently closing till the bonnet latches and then closing/locking it into place with a firm push resulted in the bonnet not locking. Checked latch and lock mechanism, nothing loose or stuck, bonnet release lever had returned to its closed position, greased mechanism ant tried again. No luck. Resorted to a more brutal method of dropping bonnet from about six inches, bonnet latched but not locked. Dropped bonnet from about 18 inches with a bit of a slam and bonnet latched and locked. Is it usual to have to close the bonnet with a slamming action and am I being too gentle with my bonnet closing technique?
  8. I retried the Carista app this morning, using the wifi dongle I bought off ebay. I managed to get up to 25% on the 'service' part of the app and then it went back to spinning away happily but not actually doing anything. Think I'll order a new dongle - I was trying to avoif the cost of the official Carista dongle but if I have to buy too manynebay dongles I won't be saving much, if any, money. Thanks for your reply!
  9. Had this for a few years, needs to be used more often!
  10. All excited at the arrival of my wi fi obd2 dongle today. So download Carista app onto iphone and plug dongle into car. Synch dongle to phone and start app. Carista appears to recognise dongle but when 'customise', 'service' or 'diagnose' are selected the app simply spins away without actually doing anything. Left app to run for 5 and then 10 minutes but only spinning of symol on phone screen ensued. Tried with just ignition on and then with engine running. Same result, no matter how many swear words I used or faces I pulled!
  11. I bought my mk2 fabia last week as a Skoda Approved. I thought the asking price was in line with what most dealers wanted. I took advantage of the 'Big Event' at the dealers - it was £500 manufacturers contribution, two services for £139, 12 month warranty and 12 months Skoda Assist, as long as you took a pcp agreement. This helped to sweeten the deal.
  12. The plastic, lipped boot liner I ordered from eBay arrived and went in this morning. Fits nicely and cost £15.99. Not the most exciting of add ons but will hopefully help to keep the boot clean!
  13. The PF Jones website lists a tow at and ancillaries for the estate so you could buy one and fit it yourself. I'm not sure if it would fit the black edition - is the rear panel different to a big standard estate? Do we know why we can't tow with this car besides the lack of official towing weights?
  14. I don't know if it's legal to tow but it's certainly possible http://www.towcar.info/outfitmatch.php?model=5937&type_car=2808 Good luck in your quest for an actual answer.
  15. I didn't own a vrs but a humble 1.9tdi 4x4. Had it for 12 years and changed tyres in pairs, as in both fronts or rears, as needed. Never rotated the tyres. Only ever changed all 4 tyres together on one occasion as usually the fronts wore out quicker than the rears. Haldex and couplings were fine.
