The front calipers dont need to be turned when they are retracted, I used a G clamp and is fairly straight forward

sorry im in Dorset and its a vrs

The metal frame has worn through the foam on my drivers seat (nearest the door) its doing my head in and will soon burst through the cloth! I drive a lot and comfort is everything, I even test drove a rover 75 yesterday because of it (was ok but vrs has it beaten hands down) what are my reaistic options? can i replace the foam?

Anybody running 17" on a non lowered vrs
montybaber replied to VRSyme's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I thought posting a pic would help the OP, personally i commute every day over miles of speedbumps so i'll stick with the stilts for now.fitted the wheels as i damaged one alloy and they were a steal on ebay, not because i wanted a car that would cut it in mcdonalds car park scraping along the ground leaving debris all over the road.so slag away -

I have the same, doesnt look too bad -
id like those seats

Good idea take a test drive, personally the VRS suits me down to the ground and if your thinking of getting an all rounder in the near future I would go for it now so you dont lose too much money Its comfortable, quick (enough), running costs are great and I like the understated looks, Only thing id change mine for at the moment is a LE which is what I'd look for if I was you
-
Having owned Quicker cars (Subarus etc) one thing I will say is you never get bored of frugality:thumbup: You may not have a monster drive to work but whenever you go anywhere you will be happier not to be looking for fuel every ten mins, the VRS is a brilliant all rounder as long as you dont need decent rear space I dont think you can do better. Just one thing if I was to do evrything again id still buy one but id insist on leather

Fabia vRS - Popping out of 1st Gear from 2nd Gear
montybaber replied to Crocket's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Im afraid not When looking for a recon gearbox for mine the cheapest quote was around £700-800 with VAT and usually 6-12 months warranty You can get a box for around £300 from a breakers but its a lottery -
Good result for Citroen terrible result for Porsche!! agree with Jeep though...add to that horriffic parts and labour costs and what have you got? a headache and an empty bank account (been there!) J eep E mpties E veryones P ockets
-
I have the same problem with mine, hoping I can scramble the money together for a retrim and hopefully they can repad the bolster
-
For a decent sound quality using the parcel shelf isnt the best option (so i have been told, never had a great system :thumbdwn:) so constructing a solid shelf from mdf would prob be best

Ex Jabba Fabia For Sale Again !!
montybaber replied to Johnny50's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Fair play mate good luck with the sale -
I will probably get ousted for this I used to always fit eagle F1's to my VRS but got fed up replacing them constantly at £100 a corner so I got budgets and although they offer no grip (not overly bothered as my car is a workhorse) they have lasted ages!!! So its Nankangs for the week and I am sourcing track day wheels and tyres for fun
-
Its very common (in fact mine are shot also) There are guides on here (on tech guides bit) but personally I will buy Seat bushes and get a garage to fit them as you will have to make up a couple of tools etc and once they are cut off etc you are commited The powerflex bushes are just inserts (on website) so go for Seat ones and possibly change fronts too
-
I have the VRS seats which are just about the hardest seats to keep clean in the universe, they are the bain of my life and i cant wait to go leather Best way to clean by far is a vax upholstery cleaner
-
I think its a fairly common problem just wondered if it could be up to Skoda to sort long shot I know I have kept it polished but I think its paint on plastic so it has faded quicker
-
I have noticed recently that the rear spoiler and bumper has faded significantly in comparison with the other paintwork, it is a yellow VRS and I believe the fabia has a ten yr paint warranty is it a valid claim?
-
No idea on milage although was assured it was from a average miler 2006 with a rear end shunt so i assume 60k max It was a gamble although i was quoted scary money for rebuild as most garages wouldnt do it until i commited to clutch and flywheel due to mine sitting at 80k I found a great mechanic who had it delivered to his garage and fitted it for £200 I have already used him again (cambelt kit and water pump, oil etc) his honesty and willingness to help will get him a fair bit of work
-
I paid £300 for one from a breakers
-
I believe that wider tyres do not offer more grip, surface area has no affect on friction ill get my coat
-
Its no hassle mate Go to a breakers and source a gearbox (I am rebuilding mine as we speak from an 04) labour to replace will be no more than £200 so should get the job done for £500, keep your LE box in case and worst case scenario another £200 to change back A lot cheaper than losing the car Or you can swap your LE for my 04 if you like

Nice neo:thumbup: and some stunning cars! Perfect dog cars VRS's I have had my 2 st bernards in the back many times
-
Just about to fit a set on mine got some on ebay local for £135 with good tyres (not that I can use them) they look good on the VRS
