  1. Surely you don't have to have water ingress (ie a leak) - you only have to get into the car wearing a wet coat or wet shoes - that's enough to leave residual dampness overnight?
  2. My Octavia 1.9 TDi is coming up to 3 years old, so the free Skoda Assist that I got when I bought it is coming to an end. Not sure how much it will cost to renew, but wondered whether anyone would have any experience or advice for me as to whether I should look to renew the Skoda Assist or go with DirectLine, AA, RAC etc as an alternative breakdown cover? Would appreciate any input.
  3. Respect gratefully received! Glad to be of assistance. Eleanor
  4. Are you keeping a pair of sunglasses in the sunglasses holder in the centre roof console?? If you are, I would suggest you try removing them and see if the rattle disappears! It took me months to track down my passenger side rattle - now solved by lining the sunglasses holder with a piece of soft cloth!! Hope this helps. Eleanor
  5. If you keep sunglasses in the roof-mounted sunglasses holder, check it is not them that are the culprits. I had the same very annoying 'left-side' rattle which was cured via another thread on here suggesting it was the sunglasses box!!! Have now lined the glasses holder with some plastic foam and the problem has miraculously vanished - hooray!!!
  6. Took my Octavia for its first (17,000 miles) service last week. I live in Bristol, but collected the car from Capitol 18 months ago and had such a good experience that I decided to take it back there for servicing. Phoned up on the Monday, arranged to take car over Thursday pm for servicing on the Friday. Everything very slick - got an identical (but newer) diesel Octy as a courtesy car, so everything felt very comfortable. Was phoned on Friday morning because car needed 2 new front tyres - all sorted very easily. Went over after work to collect - had a to wait 20 minutes or so while they finished the valeting, but enjoyed the free coffee! Full service and 2 new Pirellis came to £350 - excellent service, car feels like new again! Thanks Capitol - even with the extra £10 it costs me to cross the Severn Bridge twice, its worth it for the 'can do' attitute
  7. Discovered this morning that some b*****d has keyed the side of the my 11-month-old storm blue Octavia, leaving two long scratches across both doors where the paint is down to the white basecoat. Can anyone recommend any paint repair franchises from personal experience. I am in Bristol and would welcome any ideas. Eleanor
  8. Thanks all for your comments - I checked today, and if I'm actually driving along and the temp drops below 4 degrees, i do get a bong, but if I start up when the temp is below 4 then I don't get a bong! I don't have maxidot. Will ask the dealer when I go for service - its not a big issue, and I completely agree that there are a number of things for which Skoda consider a bong essential which I would far rather do without!
  9. I have had my Octy for nearly a year now, and am generally very pleased with it, but one thing bugs me. We get an audible warning 'beep' for low petrol and various other things, but when the temperature drops below 4 degrees C you just get a rather insignificant snowflake on the display for a few seconds - then nothing! I do keep an eye on the temperature read-out, but a beep when it goes below freezing would be quite useful. Is it possible to enable an audible warning if the temp drops below freezing? I am not due for a first service for 7,500 miles, but would like to know whether this is an option when I do contact the dealer. Any information from you knowledgeable people would be much appreciated! Eleanor
  10. I have the fitting instruction leaflet beside me as I write! If you would like me to FAX it or send you a copy, let me know. The fitting is a bit fiddly - the retaining brackets have a screw which has to be screwed up into the bottom of the bracket, and there is very little finger space between the bracket and the floor, as I remember. Eleanor
  11. I have an 07 reg Elegance estate and am still absolutely delighted with it - oil light came on for the first time this weekend, but only managed to fit half a litre in - not bad after 7000 miles! I do find the variable boot floor useful - I carry dogs around, so I find it useful to store the parcel shelf under the boot floor when I've got the dogs in (one is a large greyhound lurcher, so he hits his head on the folded-back parcel shelf if I leave it in!). Can't find anything bad to say about anything else yet! Eleanor
  12. I'm another satisfied Roof Box Company customer - bought 2 sets of roof bars and a roofbox from them and they are very helpful and competitive in price.
  13. I have an Elegance estate with variable boot floor and am using the waterproof boot liner (part number DMA629001) from Grasmere Skoda -
  14. You're not the only one! I changed my Nissan Almera for an Octavia 1.9TDI at the end of March - 3,000 miles later, I am still smiling! Eleanor
  15. Yup - totally normal! I haven't towed anything with my Octy yet, but my Nissan Almera always beeped when I towed my trailer tent! The noise is good confirmation that you have got all the electrics connected up properly. Eleanor
