  1. Of course you can try different speakers. Try getting the ones with high sensitivity. They should sound good on the stock media unit. There is no need for additional amplifier unless you want it louder. But then you also need stronger amplifier, sound deadening and isolation, DSP, subwoofer, instalation compromises,... Believe me, I went down that road with my previous car and I ended with only the front speakers costed more than 600 euros. When I ordered new Octavia, I just ticked Canton option and I'm quite happy with it. I can hear the speakers are not quality but overall the system is well balanced and worth the money. Only drawback is subwoofer, but depends on the music you're listening to.
  2. I have a 2017, 1.6 diesel Octavia estate and mine isn't noisy. It is quite quiet, on all surfaces. I just recently drove a new passat estate on the same highway at the same speed and I didn't find my Octavia any louder or less confortable to drive. But I have isues with resonating noise inside the back of cabin. It only ocours exactly at 1250 revs and when the engine is struggling. It might be exhaust related or something resonating due to engine vibrations. The dealer is avare of that problem, but it looks like they won't do anything about it until lots of other people report the same problem.
  3. I know what you mean. I drive some different cars at my work and I have notised the same kind a boomy noise generating at low engine rews on some estates. Although very subtile, but present and I've only notised it now while being aware of the noise in my Octavia. It's very quiet and starts to be slightly audible when engine rew drops too low. It gone as soon as you shift gears. I have spoken to the dealer about it and file a complain, but I don't think they will do anythink else than say it is a design flaw. Went to the service and on drive with the mechanic, and he concluded that the engine rews are too low when the noise starts to generate. He said I should shift gears sooner even if the sugester gear on display show different. On my Octavia (2017, 1.6 diesel, estate) it's only audible at 1250 rpm and trotle is realy not responsive there. So the noise, in my opinion, must be engine initiated, and then vibration travels through the body/interior and ends up resonating in the back of the car's boot. I think, there could be a single piece of the puzzle we just need to find it and deal with it, or it is all due to a thiner body which resonates differently than other cars. And of corse lack of adequate sound deadening. By the way, the thickness of the metal on the octavia is like half the thickness of my previus car (VW Passat). I think even Renaults have thicker bodys. So glad I've opted for Canton sound upgrade. Just pop up the volume. It solves the isue.
  4. You have to take down little plastic covers to get to the screws. Did that adjustment just now and it's not helping. The boom is still present. The boot stops adjust how far, out of the body ,the boot door is when fully closed. Seems like a good idea to let some air out to lose that boomy sound wave, but it's not working.
  5. I think your answer is spot on and it answers the question of this topic.
  6. Just to say my piece of mind. I have a brand new Octavia with Canton system for a week now, and I find it very pleasing. While it's notisable the speakers are not a high grade, top notch audiophile SQ class, I think, for the money, they are as good as you can get. Yes, the sub is tiny but I have enough of bass. I had to play with the EQ to get a good sound, with treble almost all the way down and midle down by a half. Bass is at the middle point, and it varies from song to song. I have compaired it to my friends Bose system in the new Mazda 6, and we both felt, while it was different, it was not worse by any means ( and half the price). And the speakers are not even breaken in. I know what and how much it takes to get a deacent sound in a envirement such as car is and I feel tha Canton is doing a preaty good job at it. You don't get a good definiton, clarity and depth with this system, but you have to bare in mind that this is a 400 EUR priced extra option and for that you only get a single amp in a SQ world.
  7. Thanks for the answer. It works now. I have downloaded the latest apk version and make sure I have debbuging enabled on my phone.
  8. Really, that's your answer? Wow. I'm preety much sure the boom comes from vibrations of the engine and it's due to the insufficient sound/vibration deadening. The thing is to identify the weak spot. It may be far from the boot.
  9. I have a brand new Octavia for a couple of days now and I can't get Android Auto to work. Although AndoidAuto app is not yet available in my country through google play, I have manadged to install the app from another source. The phone and car starts to communicate, and I get to the point where I have to confirm stuff on my phone, but then it just goes to an error page (on the phone app). Is there a setting on the phone that must be enabled or is there a different problem?
  10. I have a brand new Octavia estate and I've quickly notised an ocasional low frequency noise generated from the boot area. In my car it seem to be related to the engine revs, as it starts at 1200 and 1300 and ends as soon as revs go higher. I havent talked to the dealer yet, and I don't think they have the solution for the problem. I will probably try some sound/vibration deadening. Will continue to follow this thread, and I hope somebody can come with a good solution.
  11. I've tested a 2013 model octavia with a bolero unit a while ago and I didn't like the sound at all. A couple of months back I have tested a FL 2017 model octavia with the new bolero unit and I must say it sounded much better. Tried USB and BT though.
  12. I was realy suprised when I heard that head units, even Bolero plays FLAC files. Not a lot of stock HU supports lossless formats, not even many of the aftermarket ones does.
  13. If a poor quality source, like a bad mp3 file, really shows on your system, it can point either to a very good and detailed sound system or, like in most cases, a bad and unefficient frequency reproduction. Rock and metal are all about guitars, and they dominate midle frequency spectrum. If you don't have right mids in your system then it will never sound right. You just can't distribute guitar sound on tweeters and woofers, without stong midle speakers. Belive me, I play guitar for many years and I know what kind of speakers are used in a guitar cabinets (more effective in the mid range). I would think that the center speaker, with equalized treble and mids, would help, specialy in rock music.
