  1. Moving from ride comfort to other factors involved in larger wheels doesn't seem a massive leap, especially when the op opened up the clear possibility for a pros and cons debate with the comment 'I don't want to sacrifice comfort for vanity'. In any case, diversifying the discussion from the original specific point is a generally accepted feature of discussion forums. That's what a discussion is, but I think you know that. That's how they work, and it would be pretty dull if every thread only addressed the precise question in the op and never 'discussed' anything outside of that narrow remit. I suppose if I went back over your replies, which I certainly can't be bothered to do, each and every one would only be addressing the exact comment or question in the op? And presumably you're about to tick off everyone else in this thread that posted of something other than ride comfort? Or is it only those that disagree with you directly that get your treatment? Regards the party pooper comment. Another feature of discussion forums, sadly, is that people's feelings are too easily hurt when they disagree with a point of view, and the result is often a descent into name calling.
  2. So you agree that it is all about looks and serves no practical purpose.
  3. Low profile tyres != grip and reduced sidewall flex. Look at F1 cars.
  4. Completely agree with that sentiment. I dislike the trend for larger wheels because they a) cost more to re-tyre, b ) cost more to buy, and c) reduce the ride quality, ceteris paribus. Besides which, big blingy wheels just don't suit the Superb's general character.
  5. Hi all I read in an article recently (can't remember which but can probably dig it out) that the MY18 Superb was getting acoustic glass as an upgrade option. Had anyone heard of this or even managed to spec it on a UK order? It sounds interesting because the one thing I feel with the Superb is that it lacks road noise isolation compared to its peers. Thanks.
  6. Thanks. I think the main reason I'm tempted by the ventilated seats is actually the posher looking perforated leather. Heated wheel with paddles is definitely at the top of my list, especially for the price and the amount you interact with a steering wheel!
  7. Fair points but as I understand it, for all practical intents and purposes the 220 and the 280 are identical for a moving vehicle between 1500 and 4500 rpm. Fairly sure the 220 will perform overtakes admirably. Maybe I should just get an SE-L and forget all these frivolous extras!
  8. My daily commute is 20 miles each way through mainly country A and B roads. Occasionally I need to do long motorway trips with work. I'd definitely say I'm the type that's keen to overtake, when safe to do so, of course! Wireless charging is an interesting one. I use galaxy note phones, which are compatible with Skoda's system. Two things strike me with that though: 1. I'll be using android auto for the Google integration. This requires that the phone is connected through USB anyway. 2. You can get a generic wireless charging hub for £15 from Amazon etc., which fits in the phone box tray. So I'm far more interested in the signal boosting than the wireless charging.
  9. Love the beige interior against the black body. The new touchscreen looks really good in the cabin too.
  10. Might not help the op but does this throttle lag thing happen on every model? Was it included by design I wonder, to discourage the sorts of people that may drive Skodas from accidentally ploughing into their garage or swimming pool or other people. I've heard stories...
  11. I've been having similar thoughts about the heated nozzles being pointless with a heated windscreen, because as the ice on the screen melts the wipers can shift it anyway. But then I guess it would make it even faster with heated nozzles. The thing is I've had them on previous cars and even with 100% concentrate they've still been blocked on a frosty morning. I'm also debating upgrading the engine and downgrading the trim to stay in budget, as I keep pining after the 4x4 280. Gaaah!
  12. Thanks Danny. Have you any experience of the ventilated seats in the Superb? I seem to remember reading that they weren't that effective.
  13. Hi all I'm about to place an order for a fairly well spec'd 220TSI in L&K trim with the following options above standard: Sunroof Heated wheel with paddles Travel assist, traffic sign recognition, and smart light assist Rear view camera Waste bins (!) Rear door sunblinds Temp spare wheel Heated washer nozzles Net partition (to avoid needing a roof box on family holidays) Omissions include ventilated seats, massaging function, variable boot floor, adjust passenger seat from rear, media command, wlan, larger wheels, wireless charging with phone box, and the boot rear seat releases. Obviously this is a personal opinion thing, but I'd be really grateful to hear if anyone thinks I'll massively regret leaving out any of the options I've not ticked. Thank you.
  14. Thanks Danny, you're right that the colour doesn't show on mobiles/ tablets. Love the business grey. Boring sounding colour but very smart. Have just ordered a 220 estate in business grey on the basis of all the business greys in this thread!
  15. Why is nobody stating the colour of their cars? That's surely half the point of this thread!
