  1. Just had my 8 year service (64745mls) on my 2005 octavia 1.9 TDI dsg. (cambelt changed etc.) When I collected the car I noticed that the dsg oil and filter hadn't been changed, although my service schedule states change every 40k or every 4 years. When I queried this I was told that a service checklist is printed and only the items on the list are replaced. After further discussion the (Skoda Main Dealer) garage contacted Skoda Tech.who confirmed that the dsg gearbox oil is only changed at 40k or 4yrs and unless it is on the checklist it didn't need replacing. I was told by the service dep't manager that if I really wanted it replaced he would do it for a discounted price of about £125. Having just paid £637 for the service ,mot etc. I declined. The moral is - if you are booking your car in for a service check exactly what work is being carried out. I thought for £637 that the gearbox oil change was included. looking at the checklist it doesn't even mention checking the oil level.
  2. Yes, mine was replaced by the dealer part no. 1z0949101b at a cost of £28.07 plus labour.Warranty was then submitted and accepted by Skoda. Sorry not read the question correctly, this part no.is for the indicator(turn signal)
  3. RE ABS &ESP FAILURE - I paraphrase from an article from a Scottish Paper THE SUNDAY POST dated 19 september 2010 which is written in their consumer page "Raw Deal" £1350 BILL WHEN HIS CAR'S ABS WARNING LIGHTS TURNED RED In March 2006 a guy from Endmoor, near Kendal, bought a new Skoda Octavia 4x4 estate. In July this year he noticed the ABS & ESP warning lights were on. He took the car to a Skoda garage in Morcambe which said he needed a new ABS pump and control unit at a cost of £1350 parts and fitting. Worse,he'd have to pay in full as the original 3 yr manufacturer's warranty had expired in march last year. The car owner dug around on the internet and found it was a common fault on Octavias built after 2004.He also found out that Audi and VW owners were having their faulty ABS pumps replace free. So why not Skoda owners? He asked Skoda's UK customer service team, they offered a 25% discount on the repair as a gesture of goodwill. After further discussions, they upped that to 35% - but that would still leave him a bill for £877.After writing to Skoda UK's chief executive without getting a reply he emailed Raw Deal. ([email protected]) The paper contacted Skoda who then agreed to cover the cost of the parts and half the labour costs . That brought the bill down to just £67.Better still.because he's paying for some of the work, it'salso guaranteed for two years. A spokeswoman for Skoda said,Our customers are very important to us and we want them to be satisfied with their car. We have a discretionary goodwill policy which means our dealers are able to work with us or independently decide what they can do to help in each case.. This owner is clearly loyal to the brand and the cost of the repairs were quite high so, after hearing from Raw Deal, we decided to increase our contribution. End of article.! Sorry this is so long, Just shows that it pays to be persistant. Hope this is helpful to anyone in a similar situation.
  4. you will have two fans behind the radiator One is for the air con/climate control which will run whilst you have it switched on . Try running the engine with air con off or climate control on economy and see what happens.
  5. o/k New battery fitted by main dealer (£105) a couple of weeks ago. Have done identical journeys a few times since then without any starting problems at all. So thanks rwbaldwin for the advice . it really does work.
  6. Thanks for that link, very interesting. My battery is nearly 5 years old so I suppose it is ready for a replacement. Will shop around tomorrow for prices and get it changed . I'll post the results shortly. Thanks again.
  7. My 05 1.9tdi 105pd elegance is having starting problems when warm.Starting from cold first thing in the morning it fires up (after waiting for glowplug light to go out) immediately. After running for about 15 minutes (when water temp is 90degrees as per normal) if I park up to go shopping for 10-15 minutes it takes several seconds to fire , sometimes it will take two turns of the ignition . However, if I leave it to cool down for a couple of hours it will start immediately. The car has done 44000miles and is regularly serviced (annually) at a main dealer . I have had the car from new and this problem has only started in the last couple of months.Any advice would be appreciated.
  8. :O:O Went back to garage (Farmers @ nottingham) Very nice mechanic says show me the problem . Look says me - THERE- you haven't replaced the cambelt cover, I can see the belt - coverless !!. You know that pittying look that superior beings have for us poor mortals ? No sir, came the reply - thats the belt for the alternator - THIS is the cambelt cover! What could I do but apologise to the VERY nice mechanic. SO - apologies to all mechanics who have to deal with members of the public who don't know their a***e from their elbow.:O:O:O
  9. Thanks for that RSBSPT I'll be there in the morning , Have rang the garage but they say they can't see anything on the bench and have asked me to bring the car and show them what I think is missing.
  10. I have just collected my elegance 1.9tdi from the garage following a service and cam belt kit change. looking at the belt there isn't a cover over it and I can't remember if there should be. Have the garage forgot to refit it ?
  11. I recently replaced the original Bridgestone E30s with Bridgestone E300s on my 1.9tdi dsg elegance. I find that the handling, noise etc are the same. Very quiet on good tarmac a bit noisy on motorways. The handling is very good although i must admit i don,t floor it very often. Original tyres were replaced at 19000 (rear, A camber problem ) and 21850 (front) Hope this helps.
  12. Just had two new rear tyres fitted - Bridgestone turanza 205/55v16 at 25000miles. There is a new tyre and exhaust company opened on Normanton Road in Derby (No names - no pack drill) offering good opening offers so I priced up the tyres first of all at my usual tyre garage(can I mention BAB Motors?) who quoted me £127 the pair, fitted/balanced/new valves. Then I called they who shall be nameless with the same request - WOW £90. Great , off I went ,they fitted the tyres then tried to get me to have the tracking done for £30 --- so I say OK so that'l be £120 in total -still not a bad deal! OH NO!! Sorry sir that's £90 per tyre. After a short discussion it was agreed that some wires had been crossed ,the new tyres were removed and my original garage got the work. The Moral is -- if you have a good garage stick with it - if you MUST chase the so-called bargains get the deal in writing first.:eek:
  13. I had this problem with my 2005 1.9tdi elegance hatchback about 8 months after buying it new(june 2005). I had light assist fitted which means my headlights are on continuously so I naturally stormed into Clock Garage (Derby) and demanded that light assist be disabled (under warranty) as this was obviously the cause. They checked out the electrics then said there was a fault with the stream radio which was causing the drain. They replaced and reflashed the radio under warranty and I have had no problems since.(my lights are still on continuously) I would suggest that you ask your dealer to replace the radio again in case they fitted one that was already faulty. Hope this helps.
  14. You know, I just knew you were going to say that. Ha well, just means her indoors will have to wait 'till next month before she can go shopping at the new Westfields in Derby. :)
  15. I'm ready for a new set of tyres on the front of my octy 2. I have already replaced the rear tyres with turanza ER300 but wonder if I can replace one tyre with a ER300 and fit the original spare ( turanza ER30) on the same axle. The tread pattern is similar except for the outer section water displacement pattern.-- OR do I have to buy two new tyres. Current wear is approx 2mm at 25000mls.
