  1. Hello, The rear rubber window frame on the left side of my car appears to have been torn, I own a 2014 Skoda Octavia (mk 3). What is the name or serial number of this part? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it possible to replace it by myself? Attached is a photo of the torn part. Nevermind the tape marks. It's my poor attempt to temporarily silence the wind noise. I would really appreciate the help. Thank you!
  2. If it is due to poor service, then it's the dealer's garage that's at fault. I don't believe it's poor service though... the damage to the engine is in the form of scratches on the cylinder bores, which were probably caused by clogged oil passages in the cylinder head. As the car is maintained carefully and oil and oil filters are changed routinely (by the dealer's garage), I don't see a reason for that happening due to poor service. The damage and the circumstances fit to the problem the mechanic described. I've also asked around and found a couple more people with similar issues of the same engine. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover this kind of damage.
  3. Hello guys, I'm the owner of a 2013, Skoda Octavia (Mk3) Elegance, 1.2 tsi, with 120,000 km on it. Recently my Octavia has been consuming much more oil than is acceptable so I took it to the official dealer garage for a checkup. They weighed the oil before and after I've driven for 2000 km, and indeed the oil consumption was way higher than normal. I've had a quick chat with the mechanic, and off the record he told me that he's seen it many times and that my cylinder head is probably from a faulty batch that was produced in late 2013, and that I would need a cylinder head change. I've taken the car in for a deeper inspection and apparently the faulty cylinder head has somehow damaged the engine block as well, which leaves me with quite a costly engine change on a 4 year old car with less than 120,000 km on it. The mechanic has suggested that I contact the dealer for help, but they only offer partial participation in cost, and of course they do not admit any faulty cylinder head. I find it hard to believe that a 4 year old car that has been taken care of religiously in the dealer's garages would have an engine die. Has anyone here experienced similar problems with their car, or has information on the aforementioned problem? I would especially be interested in finding any information on faulty cylinder heads that were put into market. I'm really in need for some help here. Thank you all very much. Cheers.
  4. Hello everyone, I own a 2013 Skoda Octavia mk3 (1.2 tsi). Is this engine oil recommended for use with this car? eni (Agip) i-Sint 5W40 : https://www.motoworlduk.co.uk/acatalog/ENI0142.jpg If not, can I get a recommendation for a good engine oil? Thanks.
  5. Hi Wyx, The 'Battery Low' sign appeared on the dash. I've also experienced a problem similar to what you describe. The car would charge the battery properly, but the battery wouldn't hold the charge for very long. Anyways I went to my mechanic and he confirmed the problem is the battery itself, and not some other electrical issue. I ended up buying this battery for the equivalent of about 150 pounds. https://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/products/varta-silver-dynamic-agm/570-901-076 By the way, I haven't programmed anything into the car computer after replacing the battery. How important is it that I do it? Can I get by until my next service call (a few months)?
  6. Hi, Thank you for the comments. My Octavia has a 1.2 TSI engine.
  7. Hello everyone, I'm new to the Skoda community and to this forum in particular, so first of all - greetings. I own a 2013 Skoda Octavia mk3, and recently my battery seems to be dying. My question is twofold: 1) Will this battery be good? https://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/products/varta-blue-dynamic-efb/570-500-065 2) while replacing the original battery, is there anything that needs to be configured on the car computer, or is it a matter of just replacing the battery? Thank you for your help. Cheers.
